Great video. It always strikes me as to how far into the mountains these old timers were willing to create a homestead and live out their lives there. How different the mind set must have been then. We take so much for granted.

Superior Hunt and investigation, Brad ! For the landowner, what was here-to-for just a pit in the ground, you have proven, that the pit, is a colonial home site. I would love to see the smile on the face of the landowner. If the first coin you found is a US large cent, I would point out, the first United States Mint opened in 1794. I suspect the site is older than that. Both coins could be pre-revolutionary war ! That was a very thought provoking investigation and hunt. Your video begs the questions. Who were the people ? How long was the home site occupied ? What was their mode of sustainment ? Why did they leave ? And where did they go ? Brad, What you did not see and find at the site, may go a ways in the speculation, to answer those questions. That made my Saturday morning. Thank you my friend :-))

I was watching one of your videos where you found a coin dated 1800. Your comment was that you had missed the 1700’s on that one. OH contraire! This is a common misconception. If one is counting to 100 one starts with the number one, not zero. Let’s say you are counting apples to put in a box to send to friends at Christmas When you have counted to one hundred you have 100 apples in the basket. The second hundred then starts with the first or number 1. Or 101. The 1700’s started in the year 1701 and ended in the year 1800 just like the next basket of apples started with apple # 101. One could say that the first apple in the second basket was apple # 101 just as one could say the first year in the 1800’s was year # 1801, not year 1800. Apple # 100 belongs in the first basket! Enjoy your success at finding aa 1700’s coin

Hi Brad, I am addicted to your videos. I especially love because many of my ancestors lived in the Vermont mountains and I guess you probably have hunted their old homesites. Many lived in Rutland, Poultney, one came from Fulham, which I don’t believe exists anymore. Many were Revolutionary War Vets, marble quarry workers, Farmers and railroad workers. I would love and copies of these old maps you talk about. Love to contact you! Sue Ballard

Hey thanks for all that you do! great videos. FYI there is a bent tree at arround 2 min into this video. I don't know if this one is but my great grand father told me stories about them. the native Americans would bend trees like this to mark trails through the mountains from major sites of importance to them. harvesting foods, raw flint for tools, winter summer camp sites, ect.. if you see any more with in a mile or so that would be very cool!! thanks again *** ps they were usually about 1/2 to 1 mile apart in the mountains, farther in the valleys, and the horizontal piece was inline with the trail.

A friend of mine called and said his house must have been built where some really old houses used to be because he found two square nails with his metal detector, so I went over with my AT-PRO over there, and he showed me the nails, and I told him those nails are most likely 2 years old, as old as his house is. lol. I guess people don't know that some contractors still use square nails for certain things. Needless to say, we didn't find anything else in his yard that was more than a few years old at the most. lol.
