Never would I have expected to find something like this incredible piece of American History Original music by Brad Martin www.GMMD.us / greenmountainmetaldete... / green.mountain.metal.d... Thumbnail artwork by Jon Kenyon
Florida swamps hold the ghost orchid, but it doesn’t lack chlorophyll. It grows holding on the side of tress. It’s shaped like the human form. I love your excitement and dedication in finding.
Brad I’m so happy that you decided to check all of the metal hits! You sure have been hitting great coins and other great finds too! I can’t tell you just how much I enjoy watching your videos. It seems like your videos are short, but it’s because I’m so into watching that it seems too end soon lol. Keep em coming and I’ll be here watching. Thank you for sharing your all this with us. Stay safe and God bless you.
Very amazing buckle. A true piece of history. Very nice condition of the coppers. The spur looks like it may have leather in them and not dirt. A little history of the 53rd I found as follows: The 53rd (Shropshire) British Regiment of Foot was raised in 1755 as the 55th but was renumbered in 1757 to the 53rd. The regiment would see its first action when it arrived at Quebec City in May of 1776 to help raise the siege of the city by Continental Army troops during the Revolutionary War. The regiment served in the 1776 campaign under Guy Carleton the Battle of Trois-Rivieres and the Battle of Valcour Island. In 1777 its flank companies were with Gen. John Burgoyne during the ill-fated Saratoga Campaign. Men from the other eight companies would serve under Maj. Christopher Carleton during Carleton’s Raid (1778) and in 1780 during the Burning of the Valleys campaign. Lt. Houghton of the 53rd would lead the Royalton Raid in 1780 burning three towns in eastern Vermont. In 1782 the regiment was linked to the county of Shropshire for recruiting. The Regiment returned to England in 1787.
Hi Brad, well after all the teasing lol wow what a find and the word Collins is actually a British surname so pretty cool. What a hunt, that has to be the best hunt of 2018 other than the beautiful Reale you found of course. Awesome, thank you. x
When you come across stone walls, do you metal detect at base or inside crevices of the stones? People years ago would bury valuable at base or hide inside the wall. This was a good landmark for them with an intent to come back for their treasure.
Wow what an incredible find, congratulations! I think I would have been doing cartwheels around the woods..lol. Those coins were in nice shape for being in the ground so long too! Amazing hunt, can't wait to see what else comes out of there... GL and HH!
Yes that was a spur the strap would go through where the dirt is on each side and I think that the short side is worn on the inner side of the boot next to the horse .
Those are some of the most amazing finds i have ever seen! Its incredible to think that they have just been laying out there this whole time. Its so exciting to think about what other crazy treasures are out there right now, left in exactly the same spot as where they were dropped a few hundred years ago. Also, bummer about the gun holsters. I have a glock 22 and as soon as you said you made a holster for your glock my fingers started furiously typing a request to buy one, but then i had to delete it two seconds later when you said you dont make them to sell lol.
I am really appreciating these videos that you make. Did you pin the location of that cellar with GPS? If not, how do you relocate the areas you want to search again? Another question for you, do you have a favorite season you like to metal detect? Keep up the great work.
Glad to hear you enjoy the videos, Chris! The cellars are GPSed if the land owner requests it, often they already know where they are. My favorite season is probably early spring before the bugs!
That was a Spur. With the Coins being 18th century I am thinking. 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment of Foot was a British Army regiment, raised in 1755. Now the buckle could have been a Prize as well. When prisoners were taken by the Continentals they would also parole the prisoners to Settlers as well to work for their food. Not saying this is the case, yet could also be a deserters house as well. OR just the year something happened and he was proud of the year.
I enjoy watching myself finding Ten Cent coins 🤣 but Dam you cracked some good finds that day !! Plus your video savvy was very easy to watch , Awesome 😎 great viewing 👍 Tim
Congratulations! It makes me so happy when relics of such importance are found by folks who genuinely appreciate them for what they are, but more importantly, where they came from. Thanks for documenting your hunt and sharing it with us!
You may have found the remains of one of a soldier from the British 53rd Regiment who led Indian raiders of the infamous “Royalton Raid” of 1780. Brilliant.
Man those are some amazing finds. You could make a tv show with your videos. As long as no one tried to edit them. lol. It blows my mind the stuff you find that would most likely never be found if you weren't out there digging. Great job and great video. Can't wait for the next one. You are really becoming my favorite RU-vid channel.
You are one lucky son of a gun! Not only great finds, but the most beautiful place to explore as well! Love your videos! Thanks for sharing, from Australia, cheers, Chris
You're gonna have to go back and change the title to your "I'm never going to top this" video. LOL. Congratulations on the incredible Rev War find! Super happy for you.
Hey there JD. Fancy seeing you over here on GMMD. You two guys get a lot of my time. You don't know me but I've been on many excursions with you both. When all the insanity of the world begins to overload my brain and kill my soul, I frequently take a stroll in nature with one of you guys and enjoy discovering the mysteries of a simpler time. You were the first metal detecting guy I have followed and You and Brad are my two all time favorites. See ya around and God bless you both!
I've only recently found your channel so I'm watching all that I can. I was wondering about bears when you mentioned your Glock. The woods are wonderful, you can almost see Mohawks and Abenaki and Mohicans tracking their enemies! The 53rd eventually became the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry and,I believe, remain as the 3rd Battalion The Light Infantry. Incidentally, the museum of this old regiment was blown up by the IRA in 1992 when it was located in Shrewsbury Castle which was built in 1070 or so. It was a very, very easy target with no serving soldiers within miles. I enjoy your videos very much indeed as I am nuts about American history and to see Colonial material being dug up is very exiting!
What an exciting trip for you! Congrats on all the cool finds and thanks for sharing!! The 1775 coin....to think it was made one yr before our country's Independence. Wow. Another great video Brad!!
Green Mountain Metal Detecting Interesting question, and good answer by DHO. I’m in rural Ohio and often wonder why people would simply abandon so many of the possessions in general. I’d think a bunch of poor farmers would keep their brass candlesticks and pewter spoons if they moved out!
Ty Kendrick ... I have wondered about the spoons as well. I would think for people living in conditions such as those, any possession would be very important. Even a spoon that had broken would be mended.
Congrats on your amazing find! Even though I don't metal detect, I love the history that you share. (I'm a genealogist/researcher) I love your videos, editing, etc. Its as if you have a cameraman walking with you at times. Congrats again! Can't wait to see what you find on your next outing.
I've watched this episode several times so now I must Comment! Holy Cow Dude, FIND OF a LIFETIME for sure! 53rd Regimental sword plate! Not to mention, colonial spur, two largies and the list goes on! You underplay your site, I would suspect a small encampment with the mix of relics your finding, keep digging that location, there could very well be hat insignia and some super overcoat sized Rev. buttons! Thanks for sharing your adventure and HH
In my area of connecticut we used to call them Indian Pipes. I lived near a couple of bogs and they would be often in the woods. Beautiful . Congratulations on the beautiful find. It is incredible
ok so it wasn't a gold coin....yet....but nice reverse jinx!!! great finds, beautiful recap display! absolutely loved the inch worm segment, still smiling, thanks!
That buckle brings up the age old question. How did it get there? Did it belong to a turncoat? Did the person just decide to stay rather than return to Britain? Was it a trophy from a battle? You have to love the mystery!! Great video and thanks for inspiring me to think about the history of the Rev War. Well done.
I'm not up to speed on the independence wars but it may be worth asking the question of whether there were raids carried out in the local area. This regiment was formed of guys from North England and had seen alot of action in many other battles it could be that they were used due to being veterans who had seen action and as such may be toughened enough to carry out the cowardly raids along with the native people.
This was one exciting video! Super finds! I loved the stirrup. You don't find many in tact even from the civil war! Awesome historical relics. Congratulations!
Gotta love a Friday GMMD video! I have Friday's off of work and usually start my day working on my 1966 Beetle. I then take a break and turn on this weeks GMMD video. What a relaxing time seeing you find such great finds! I wish Canada had the history as yours - or maybe not - but it sure would make metal detecting a heck of a lot more interesting. :)
OMG. Incredible. I just read up on the history of the 53rd and the Royalton Raid in 1780 there in Vermont, etc. Definately a camp of some sort there or like others said, a dwelling of some kind. I think you need help, Im on a plane. Ha. Congratulations. Wow!
$hit, I'm driving there! I'll bring a BBQ grill and a large cooler with steaks, burgers, and cold drinks! This is exciting! Just imagine, a British soldier, a man on this earth around 240+ years ago was wearing that buckle! He had no idea you would find it! If we could only know what he was doing the day it found its way to that spot!
Grabbed my first cup of coffee and sat back to enjoy. I've wondered if you also do photography since you seem to have the knack for perfect shots. Congrats on the belt buckle. Beautiful find.
What an amazing piece of history that us Brits left behind! To have the soldiers name possibly stamped on it makes it even more special Those coins and that shoe buckle too! Wow another amazing hunt. Congrats and thanks for sharing. P.s. Love the thumbnail art, did you draw it?
MAN IM AS EXCITED AS YOU. SO HAPPY WHEN YOU FIND GREAT STUFF. PACK SOME BUBBLE WRAP FOR YOUR BUCKLES. LOL A GLOCK? WOW ONLY COPS HAVE THOSE HERE. LOOK WHAT YOU FOUND 2ND TIME... GOING A 3RD? 😊 LOVE TRAVELLIN WITH YOU, THANKS FOR THE RIDE. CAMILLE AUSTRALIA.
Great finds! And well done on the video . Very enjoyable to watch and the video and audio quality are excellent. Those are the kind of hunt spots we all dream about.
Wow! Im blown away by the buckle. What a piece of history. The coins and shoe buckle are nice as well. Awesome hunt and big congrats. Thank you for sharing and Hh
See - knew that was a good spot - the finds really are in remarkably good condition - not turned up by the plow (obviously & broken by that) or even moved much thru' logging, they just seem to be as dropped hundreds of years ago - so I'm betting there IS more to be found! Nice little spur as well and the buckles were FAB. Gotta go back! 👍
Amazing! That was worth the wait. I can't wait for you to go back to that site. I'm sure there were many green diggers watching this morning 😄. Great video sir.
So very Awesome ! While you were digging up the 1775..., I said to myself, wow what amazing soil ! This was a great hunt and so happy for you ! Thanks for sharing !
Hey, what a great finds. This buckle with number 53 is really nice. I have very nice Austria-Hungarian buckle and that's all. Woodland that you are detecting in is quite similar as our (i know there are other trees etc.). Which latitude of parallel north are you from? I'm living in 49° latitude north. Thanks for video, keep this hobby going on. Wish you many rare and nice finds, greetings from Czech republic (Europe).
I think axe heads got lost because the shaft broke on a bad strike and the head flew off into the undergrowth never to be seen again. Fabulous finds. Great site with great soil, its a winning combination!
So happy for your amazing finds. I cannot help but imagine who might have dropped all of stuff. Were you able to connect the name on the back of the buckle?
Incredible find Brad, that's what is so awesome about this hobby. We never know what's going to come out of the ground. Thanks for sharing. Until next time HH&GL *Chris*
It must be a thrill to unearth a museum-quality artifact like your "53" buckle with such a history. Definitely worth getting a little wet to find. Do we think "Collins" was the owner of the buckle or hallmark of the maker? I wonder if the buckle and KGs are from a British soldier who decided to stay after the U.S. Independence. I'd also be tempted to make a return trip to see what other goodies are lurking there. Take your poncho justin case. ;-))
Bill, if you're a mailman, i wanna take a sec to thank you for keeping the mail moving even with what you can only call saboteurs leading you. Great job, you are appreciated by many. JM
One year before our Independence copper AWESOME both of them. That is a beautiful shoe buckle. In the rear of the spur looks like where a wheel was & the front was where the straps were. A British war buckle UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE. One of your best videos.
By far your best video ever...EVER. That. 53rd. buckle trumps the 8 reale ! Finding any kind of Rev.war buckle is hard enough. Closest I've gotten is war of 1812. Site needs to be pounded. P/S. I hate you ! (Kidding) 😡
WOW Brad! What a honeyhole. I’d take a few weeks off, set up a camp and hit that place like it was leaving! Awesome finds. The buckle is the find of a lifetime for most of us! You are the Man. The best M.D. channel on RU-vid
