Love watching these old B/W movies for many years now especially with the old cars like the 1947 Buick the gangster pushed Adele Jergens into, mine was a black 54 Super V8 4 Dr loved driving that $200 tank back in 1975 Thanks CCC for down loading this
First time to see Glenn Langan in a leading part. He was always a supporting actor. Always wondered why he didn't go onto major stardom. He was handsome, tall and well built. Odd how breaks never happened to some and yet others you wonder why they were ever major stars.
I love movies like this. Drama, story great acting. Movies like this remind me why I always stayed away from any nonsense; being in a jail always scared me to death but I enjoy the movies.
Robert Lippert movies are truly terrific, cozy under the bed covers, Noirs - despite them being mostly B, and even C, productions. ... Been looking for a Lippert collection!
@@jean6872 ha ha ha! ... You have to trust the genius of your heart-yearning fantasies and let yourself stream with the innocent spirit of even the 'bad' noirs!
Love the background music - actually - everything - B&W hats ,cars & since I’m a San Franciscan - what can I say 😁❓ Home is where the heart ❤️ is . I hope you love wherever you are and may God bless your life and give you his eternal love, faith and guidance.
Good movie. I get to see what the world looked like the year I was born and I can tell you I liked it better back then. I cant think of too much I like about modern times.
Well, as the youngster here (1954), I found it enjoyable too! The 1950s was the last sane decade in America. No radical feminism, no political correctness. . . .
I am from 48 and I totally agree with you there is nothing to like in modern times too many narcissists this a very good movie great escapism if only we had a time machine to go back to the beautiful times glad we lived at that time
"Finally!!! Eddie got all his money and a beautiful wife for free"!!🙃👍 Excellent movie is going to linger for a long time. Thank you for the opportunity.👌👏👏👏👍
Becoming a Big Fan of the tough talkin' B-girl Adele Jergens, especially her Film Noir titles. This Noir opus by R. Lippert studios is made extra fine and realistic with all the on-location Frisco shooting and use of Non-studio sets. Almost as as good as D.O.A. (49). A+++
I'm 45 and absolutely hated black and white shows back when I was young . As a Sci fi biff I somehow started watching old black and white Sci fi and horror movies a few years ago and after covid started I found the Noir genre of films. I absolutely love these older movies. The writing and stories are better than this new crap put our by studios today.
I agree Adele Jergens was lovely. I thought she was Virginia Mayo until I checked back on the credits. Robert Jordan was Bobby Jordan who played Danny with the East Side Kids I have never seen him in anything else that I’m aware of so it was a cool surprise
Soy super aficionado a las películas de los 30' y máximo a los 65' cuando fue la verdadera época de oro del cine mundial, saludos desde Altamira México 🇲🇽👍🚓
According to Nicholas this movie is the best one !I accepts this ! My friend is correct!! The lady looks beautiful ! So I am waiting to see the movie with my friends! 👸
Langan was the epitome of the handsome square-jawed hero. Roger Moore must have been envious. Langan and Jergens were both born in 1917, later got and stayed married until Langan died.
Great Movie! . lovely Adele Jergens too...Bobby Jordan was so talented ( one of the orinigal Dead End Kids).... Life was so different in 1949.. Classic Film....😊
A few movies where an heiress is put into a sanatorium in order for others to get her money. I wonder how many times this happened in reality. Horrible.
He had a good innings but not as a movie star. He was never known enough to be forgotten. Not surprising when he appeared in a turkey like Treasure of Monte Cristo.
This film has so many improbable plot lines and actions they can hardly be counted. I do think the title was chosen because of the popularity of the swashbuckling movies at the time, it has little to do with its title, except for its forced ending. It barely qualifies as Film Noir. Some, but not much light and shadow. The real value of this film is the street scenes of San Francisco in the late '40's. Having said all that, I must admit I enjoyed this movie. It totally kept my attention. It held the title 'Treasure of Monte Cristo' , in front of me like a gold carrot that I wanted to follow to the end. If your a fan of Adele Jergens you'll enjoy her performance here. Glenn Langan holds the entire film together giving a fine and excellent low key performance.. Some wise guy will probably say I'm the ass behind the gold carrot, but that's OK. I love the tough talk in those films. film together
First time for me. Nov. 22, 2021. Yes, Langan certainly could have been given bigger roles. A. Jergens was pretty incredible in the hotel bed scene. Pretty incredible.
@Stu Art S.F. metro must be a new made up term. Population of S.F. city & county ( they are one & the same) is like 874,000. S.F. Bay Area (the common way it is described) is over 7 million. San Jose is the bigger city. S.F. airport & water supply are in San Mateo County. Oakland & San Jose have airports. Oakland is where most of the shipping goes. Some of it goes to other cities. S.F. is no longer much of a seaport.
S.F. in 1949. What year was the big Earthquake? 1901? Oh 1906. So that was 43 years earlier. So this older guy at beginning of movie may have been in the quake as a kid.
Say what! The long staircase looked as tedious as uhh BART! She looked 41, not 21 ! But hey! I like seeing early SF! Mind you walking down Market Street today is filthy-nastified! I too haven't been there in 2 yrs due to COVID. WISH I could see it now but a mere 2 yrs has turned the once great city to a haunting nightmare! Looking forward to the movie though! TH U!😀😀😀😀😀😄😄😄😄😄😆😆😆

Thank you, CCC. I love classic movies and I subscribed to your channel tonight when I found this movie. Please understand that any criticism I have for a movie does not reflect on this channel because you are presenting us with the old movies which we love, even the bad ones. Treasure of Monte Cristo is definitely a dud and has all the appearance of a rushed low budget effort from a studio (Lippert Pictures) known for cheap movies with no star attractions. The director, William Berke, even tried to get a job at Columbia which were next door.
That’s sweet of you to say, here at CCC we adore reviews… some films will be good, some films will be bad, and some films will be so good it’s bad! And we might not all agree on it, but the one thing we do agree on is our love of cinema! So keep ‘em coming… Thanks for watching 🤩😍🤩😍
@@harryharafias1752 RU-vid deleted my reply that I should never have trusted the search by their parent company. You're not allowed to point out when they sent you the wrong info, apparently. I wondered why the picture of "Tracy" was a B&W that looked exactly like Adele. Thanks for the correction.
Adele Jergns is a dead ringer for Virginia Mayo. If I'm not mistaken credited Robert Jordan is aka Bobby Jordan from East Side Kids . 35:00 coroner testifies about angle the body turned when shot as indicating whether shot from front or back . What happened to entrance & exit wounds ? If the bullet didn't exit then he could only have been turned facing one direction
Here's a mouthful, from the get-go: The two sailors get off the boat and, in San Francisco, one of them says "...well, what'll it be, girls or gay times....?"
He certainly was gullible. Huge plot hole: his photo all over the paper and no one recognizes him in the hotel or walking the streets; San Francisco ain't that big or that dumb. Despite the plot hole, a taut piece of drama.
A mí también ... me recuerdo gozando muchísimo viendo, en Venezuela, estas películas en Español ... pena no haber una página web con estas películas en Español!
