I have done quite a bit of research on this product. What is unique about this treatment is that the more it is exposed to the elements, the better it works. You could have left your treated lumber out in the rain and it would have sped up the preservation process. I do believe also that the treatment would indeed inhibit any mold or fungal growth. The family that developed this product (over 60 years ago), must have done a lot of researching and experimenting, because what they came up with is a formulation that actually mimics and accelerates the petrification of wood. The chemicals and minerals in the preservative react best with the elements, which is why the wood develops a silver patina and a silky finish over time. This is not a chemical free product, as everything we use contains chemicals, but they aren't toxic chemicals, and it definitely eco-friendly; for example, it contains no VOC's. People seem more concerned about having a very specific color for a wood finish than they do about keeping their wood structures intact. Staining and sealing your wood after using this product is not only unnecessary, but it will also nullify the effects of the product. The wood needs to remain porous and to "breathe" during its lifetime; sealing it with a high VOC product defeats the purpose of this amazing natural product.

Don't put it on wet wood. Let the wood dry out. Other than that no algae or mildew has grown on it.
