Treat Your Pedalboard Like a Modular Synth

I hope this actually makes sense to people. Obviously there are those who enjoy rebuilding their board every so often. Or if your board needs to completely change for gigging purposes, this system probably isn't gonna work for you. I think I've reached my limit after a dozens of resets so I had to rethink things.

Way more silly, but I always limit myself by color lol like 'I only want black or white pedals' and it's been hugely helpful to reduce GAS

I love this. I’m always impressed by a great board all of one color or of a certain color combo. I used to always get sucked into pink pedals. I’ve made a few dumb purchases just because they were pink. What color is your board?

@@BounceChord I don't have a pedalboard anymore but I was able to make an almost complete 'black and gold' pedalboard. The only exception was the Empress Compressor MK2, I had the blue one.

@@emirchacra3594 that rules. If I ever become randomly wealthy, I’m definitely building a full purple one and a full pink one. I’d love to do a lime green one to honor my favorite phaser but I don’t think there’s enough out there.

Or use a modular synth for your pedal board. There's a company that makes a level conversion module that you can plug a guitar and an amp to and route the signal through your synth. I thought about doing a small block of modular synths on my pedal board.

Oh yeah. There’s lots of fun to be had with that. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Seriously thought that you were going to patch your pedals together and create some spacey drone loop feedback sonic goodness 🤪

I wish! That’s a future vid maybe. 🎉

I like your concept. I would need to account space for "special" pedals, such as the Freqout, the EHX Pico Attack Decay, and the TCE Infinite Sample Sustainer. I might want to add a EHX String9, or a Boss PS-6 at some point. I suppose I could limit myself to only two special pedals. That might work within the confines of your modular synth idea.
@BounceChord

@@jonathancarmichael1578 do you mean something like a wild card pedal?
@jonathancarmichael1578
@jonathancarmichael1578 7 дней назад
@@BounceChord That's an appropriate term for it, yes. I think I would need to allot room for at least two wildcard pedals. . . . At least! Lol 🙂

@@jonathancarmichael1578 I’ve got this position on each board. Both have kinda vintage style envelope filters right now but once in a while I’ll pop a weird synth pedal or something in there if I’m feeling saucy.

Shame they don't design the pedals and pedalboard form like the Modular synths. No reason they can't and it uses space much more efficiently.
@BounceChord
@BounceChord 5 дней назад
@@davidm7237 that would be great. I think we’re in too deep with the current format though.

The real solution is buying a solid premium multi FX. It solves all problems. Creative routing? Check. Quick settings recall? Check. Using one FX multiple times in a chain without buying two pedals? Check. More portable? Check. More convenient? Check. People did not like it though when I posted a video saying that 😅 I'm one 100% at fault as well. Although my board is modest and for routing I use a patchulator. Works great. But it still lacks the convenience of a Quad Cortex.
@BounceChord

@@SyntheticFuture if I was gigging regularly, I may honestly go this route at this point. I’ve had so many shows where a cable fails me mid song or something. I pulled the bypass switcher off the board a while back but that’s only because my board rarely leaves the stu. I do love the idea of creative routing though. A programmable switcher would do that for me. That would actually make it more like a modular synth too. Perhaps one day.

The only problem with pedalboards is that we never finished. We are always adding or changing sounds all the time. lol 😄 I didn't realized you have so many pedals. You got some good ones there.

@@KevinPlaysGuitar it’s out of control. I probably need to offload some of these. I love them too much though.

As a modular synth user, somehow the power situation is even more frustrating in the pedal world. Every time I want to rearrange my board, I have to spend an hour on my spreadsheet figuring out what lines go where based on power needs, and because I'm too dumb to label them properly, it usually involves re-running the power cables completely. Any suggestions? Currently using the MXR ISO-Brick on my board, but I'm open to swapping it out.
@BounceChord
@BounceChord 7 дней назад
@@BeniRoseMusic oh yeah, that’s an annoying one that I should’ve addressed in the video. I use Strymon power supplies which give you isolated power and up to 500mA from each port. And another rule I have is to not buy anything that won’t work with that power supply. Just something I always check before buying digital pedals. Only thing that didn’t work for me with these supplies was one pedal from Walrus but otherwise they’re fool proof.
@BeniRoseMusic
@BeniRoseMusic 6 дней назад
@@BounceChord I'll see if it's worth swapping in the Zuma so I can stop worrying about amp ratings of pedals, 500 on every line would definitely clear me up! Thanks!

A lot of pedals are now desktop instruments. My Eventide H9 has stomp box buttons but I wouldn't ever use it on the floor. My OTO Bam, Bim and Boum have soft rubber buttons not designed for feet.
