A few words about periodontal disease:
It is a multifactorial infectious disease that progresses in stages until the loss of teeth. It occurs in two major stages which are:
1. gingivitis: the first symptoms of infection, gingivitis is reversible
2. periodontitis: occurs if gingivitis sets in and deteriorates. Periodontitis is irreversible and leads to tooth loss, if left untreated of course!
