Not sure if a cardioversion has been done for you but after that was done thank god he has been in normal sinus rhythm but he had to be on amioredene after for awhile as a backup just in case it came back. Thank you for this video. I have been on 150mg of Flecanaide morning & night for about 10 years & have never had any problems with it. Prior to that I was on Sotalol, but often had to go to hospital for treatment. Of course I'd rather not be taking tablets, but necessary I'm sure in my case. I had arrhythmia on & off from age 22, when at 65 it became Afib. Now at 77 I face a possible valve replacement, but will take each day as it comes😃 I do love listen to your informative videos.

Thank you for the information in this video. I had cardiac ablation the end of August 2018. Prior to that an echo showed both my atria enlarged (the left "grossly" enlarged). I have been on a twice daily dose of Flecainide - 100 mg - since then. A new echo showed vth the atria now reverted to normal size. Dr Natale now wants me to stop the drug - I hope I get some years being free of paroxsymal afib, but appreciate the information for using this as a PIP.

Just started this medication today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works. My AFib started about 12 years ago when I was diagnosed with Grave's disease. I had a thyroid ablation with RAI. But after I got COVID in January of 22, my AFib has increased substantially. I would go into AFib a few times a months. The last 2 weeks though, I have started going into it a few times a day. Usually brought on by ice cold beverages, eating a large meal, eating too fast or laying down flat. Wish me luck!! 😊

I was prescribed flecainide before my ablation, but have to say I had dreadful side effects from it in terms of heightened anxiety the likes of which I’ve never experienced before. My cardiac nurse said I would be better off it after my ablation because of the potential side effects that the excellent Dr Gupta describes here. I did indeed come off all medication after my ablation and apart from some mild episodes months apart have been fine.

I've used it about a dozen times to stop AFIB. It works in slightly less than an hour every time. At that time, the heart temporarily stops and restarts in a normal sinus mode. At that time I feel like I'm passing out because the heart stops. But feel relieved when the heart starts beating again in a normal sinus rhythm at a rate just above a resting rate. It takes about another hour before the heart is completely relaxed. No obvious side effects, I can drive in traffic just fine, no (additional) vision problems.

I found the video most useful and understand now why my Flecainide PIP has sometimes put me into flutter , but not always. I was told 300mg was the maximum dosage which is what I now take in one go on onset, previously the 100mg after onset of AF worked, then a second one after an hour and that also worked for a while then up to the 300mg. A major relief when it does work and I would give it the thumbs up!

I had 2 afib episodes about a month apart and the cardiologist at the hospital quickly gave me a 2 syringe dose of a heart pause drug. The third time I went to the hospital another cardiologist waited and watched. I chose to go to the second for a check up. I live in Texas in the US and am tired of some of the treatments that sound a little out of date. Doctors, nurses, emergency personnel always ask if I've taken an aspirin a day. Or when I call an ambulance they ALWAYS expect me to have chest pain. Research and heart studies in the US are almost always done on men. I understand it wasn't until 2016 that women were routinely included in heart attack research. So when I tell them I have other symptoms they pretty much dismiss me. And that is why I follow you. Than you, I think you are the voice of reason.

Just came across this video, and I had a poor experience with Flecainide. I had an echocardiograph that proved I had a structural normal heart but kept going into AF with repeat cardioversions (months or years apart). After one episode when I had been successfully cardioverted I was put on the tablet version of Flecainide. Months later I had another episode of AF, but at times felt very strange and after seeking medical support was found that I periodically would go into VT. Having these episodes of VT meant immediate cardioversion that returned me to normal sinus rhythm. The results of further investigation proved that it was the Flecainide that was causing the episodes of VT but only when I was in AF. Now in permanent AF being successfully rate controlled with medication and my medical records showing my allergic reaction to Flecainide.

On a long weekend ride we'll ride 100k and I will go into AF late in the ride on hills that I put effort into. I drop out of AF when I back off the pace. I have gone into AF with HR as low as 140. @@SuperPa Thanks for the reply. It's nice to chat with someone of similar age and quite active. What you experience shows how different AF can be. The last time I got AF it was quite warm and I think the main cause was dehydration. I'm over in Perth and we have had the hottest summer on record. At its peak 38C felt cool after a few mid 40s. This time I was able to record it on my Apple Watch and from the print out my cardiologist is thinking I might have SVT rather than AF. Although, it may start off as AF for a few seconds than go into SVT. My HR was over 160bpm but regular. (I use Pill in Pocket method of control as I only get it every couple of months). I wonder if this is happening to you? The ride was very flat and I was taking it easy. Since then I have bought a Garmin HR monitor which has been helpful. Hopefully I will do a 660km gravel ride next month but leave the racing to the young folk. I'll do 100km a day and get a good sleep each night. The immediately slowed and coasted back to where my car was, after a couple of minutes my HR returned to normal and I took my medication and continued on riding at a slower pace. During my two-day stay at the hospital I was given different medications I ended up leaving with a prescription for metoprolol and Eliquis. I was referred to a Cardiologist. He he took me off the Eliquis and had me take low-dose aspirin 4 my continual AFib. After my fourth visit he let me decide whether or not I would consider a cardioversion which I did. It worked for less than a week and my heart went back into AFib. He had me start back on the blood thinner Eliquis for 6 weeks and now has taken me off of it and I am back on low dose aspirin. I like my doctor very much but I am wondering why he is against me trying the flecainide. Should I get a second opinion ?

I was told by my doctor that flecainide won’t get me back into normal rhythm. I am currently in atrial fibrillation and the only thing that stops it is when I have a cardioversion and then it lasts for about 12 weeks and then I go back into atrial fibrillation. Are you normally take 100 mg and I’m gonna raise that on doctors advice to 200 mg but the doctor said that it won’t put me back into normal rhythm it’ll just help any views?

Thank you for the video, I have a structurally normal heart, and suffer from paroxysmal AF since 2005, I have been stuck on a waiting list for the last 2 1/2 years whilst awaiting my 3rd ablation I also have a loop recorder fitted. After a recent episode of AF I was advised to take Flecainide on a more regular basis as I've taken it as pill in the pocket normally. Once again after only one dose I have had side effects from Flecainide with headache and vision problems. I complied with the advice I was given today and took a low dose betablocker Bisoprolol of 1.25 mg along with 100 mg of Flecainide and I ended up in bradycardia all night and I felt like my whole body was vibrating and my heart was definitely not normal. Consequently I got no sleep and am extremely tired today. I don't like this drug I'm sorry. Can you explain what may have happened here?

Thank you for your video's Dr Gupta. I have been on Flecainide every day for about 2 years, following a failed ablation that lasted a year. The flecainide is the only thing that terminates, and keeps my permanent AF at bay, and I have realised that I can go below the minimum dose and it still keeps me in sinus rhythm. Also intermittent fasting has really helped because it seems to drop my blood sugar level and insulin resistance, as well as giving a small amount of autophagy which appears to give a cell healing/replacement effect as noted in many studies. Update: After many months of intermittent fasting my arrhythmias/ectopic beats have improved by about 70 percent, and my heart feels a lot better. i think this due to it lowering inflammation in the body.

Even wiki says only using this for severe arrhythmias as a last resort. not atrial fibrillation. I’ve never seen so many fluoride atoms on any molecule. Flecanide binds to lung tissue and causes interstitial lung disease (5 references in wiki) The way I read it it causes bbb. Your reasoning seems to be if you are really healthy and only have parox afib, this drug won’t kill you hence you should take it. The trial you mention may be this paper: Mortality and Morbidity in Patients Receiving Encainide, Flecainide, or Placebo - The Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial, 1991 I don’t see anything wrong here: the flecanide patients had 3x to 4x more deaths, from arrhythmia and heart attacks, than placebo.

Thank you for the information. Doesn’t seem like most GPs take AF seriously enough……. If I had been prescribed flecainide when I was experiencing severe af attacks maybe I wouldn’t have gone on to have ventricular fibrillation. I’m not sure if sone GPs understand how debilitating and difficult it is to live a normal life when suffering from af. Thankfully 🤞. Having one had 2 heart procedures(ablations). I now have a much better quality of life. Keep saying this on these blogs. If you have persistent af. Push for a 7 day heart monitor because it was only after this, I was sent to a cardiologist My heart rate went down to 30 then rapidly up to 140. Take care 🌈💜

Dr Sanjay, is Afib same with Mobitz1 or 2? My Dr said I have Mobitz1 which I get everytime im nervous or excited, but then gets normal everytime I accept death is just part of being alive. Wasnt like this before until i got full nervousness in 2021 for some weird reason. Been to neuro, cardio, gastro , ortho, optha, uro, ent, endocrino, and now psych. Still getting this annoying thuds when im anxious. I suspect some antibiotics triggered it. Some people i talk to git the same after the vaxx. Hope everyone gets the proper meds needed and the reassurance from you Dr Sanjay is more than an electrical impulse needed so peoples lives and thoughts stay in rhythm. Thank you in advance for your inputs.

It depends on how stubborn your AFIB is. I was diagnosed in 2019 and we tried flecainide as well as other medications, none of which worked. Next it was a cardioversion, which did not take. At that point we did a medication cardioversion using amiodarone. That worked but it is extremely toxic and not a long term solution. As a result, several years later, the AFIB returned. We tried tripling the flecainide, which did not work, so we did another cardioversion, which has worked thus far. If the AFIB comes back, then we're doing a heart ablation.

Hello there , Wondered if you could help my cardiologist, put me on flec about ten years ago . Ie have very bad ectopics , and very occasional a fib. I had a transthoracic echocardiogram , results were a structurally normal heart with good LV systolic. Function , And no significant valve disease of note. Atrial size was normal at 17cm 2. He says he is a little hesitant to put patients on flecainide long term,, and had advised my doctor that I should hold off taking the drug, unless I get protracted a fib. The problem is as soon as I try to come off the drug , my ectopics come back with a vengeance and kill my quality of life . I cracked today and took a 50mg pill, because the ectopics were so bad , and I can’t cope with them. I don’t know what to do?
