Yes, the two greatest assets Adam has are his intelligence (which is obviously high) and a mom amazing enough to NOT try to wrap him in "cotton wool". It is so wonderful in this day and age to see a mother who recognizes her children, and especially boys, need to explore and take risks in the real world and test their boundaries -- even unto crossing a few. Without this they will always be weak and looking for some mommy-substitute.

What a beautiful soul Adam is. I’m so sorry he went through so much bullying, it’s horrendous what that does to a child. My son was in the same position and it was heartbreaking. I hope Adam’s secondary school years are much happier, he’s so lovely.

Because the bullies are jealous and bullying feeds their ego.

Their obvious intelligence registers as a threat. Strangely, the bully is both threatened by it, but also wishing they had more of it. Bullying is trying to tie a psychological anchor to slow the bullied kid down so they don't pass them too quickly. BTW, it's not enough that the bully is "lower intelligence". Something else has to happen in their life to make them insecure. Perhaps someone at home -- perhaps even a parent -- is psychologically abusing them.

Well, I was a teacher...and it is heartbreaking, when children are suffering mobbing. I tried very hard to look after my teenager pupils. School authorities must be aware of this problem and confront it.

It wouldn't be so bad if schools actually taught anything useful. Once kids are taught the basics of English and math and IF they're bright and inquisitive, they should be allowed to stay home and educate themselves by reading, reading, reading. I'd be a whole lot more knowledgeable today if I'd been allowed to do that. People say about home-schooling, what about the socialization? Hell's bells, some socialization! Bullying and cyber-bullying and being "taught" a lot of stuff that's totally irrelevant to your life and that you forget as soon as you leave school. And when in the development of human beings was it thought normal to spend most of the daylight hours with people just of your own age with maybe one or two adults? Seriously weird. Doesn't prepare you for life.

Growing a Back Bone is such a negative way to speak of bullying. Getting Adam into advanced classes would do him a world of good. I was bullied for 10 yrs after moving from a different Canadian Province to another province. My life was so badly affected by the bullies which went from elementary to high school. I have always been a larger girl but living through that hell has badly affected even my adult life. “Growing a back bone,” was never a thing to just pull out of the air!!!!!😢

Shirley is 84????? She looks 20 years younger, and her soul is that of a 30 year old, what a treasure of a woman, the dream woman in fact! The bullying Adam has suffered from his schoolmates happens to almost all above-the-average IQ people in their infancy, it happened to me, by age 4 I already was able to read and write, so by the time I got to kindergarden I had already read two huge volumes about Egytian and Greek mythology, I was also bilingual, in other words, all that set me apart from the other kids, the reason why all my frieends at the time were at least 5 or 6 years older than I.

I can relate to Adam's mom. My daughter is also very smart. For preschool graduation, they made a picture of what they wanted to be when they grew up. All the other kids wrote "a teacher" or "a mommy" or "a fireman," but mine, she wanted to be a paleontologist. At 5th grade, it had morphed to Historical Archeologist. She graduates high school in 6 weeks and plans to study biochemistry... to be a Forensic Pathologist.

Children can be so cruel, when they want to. I hope Adam finds some coping skills to combat his low self esteem. I feel for him. A child so smart, may need external help, let’s these overtime, causes depression. I have been there with my child, years ago and of course no matter how you build them up, they know, it’s because we are just Moms but do it anyhow. It will help no matter how small. Now as an adult she gets on top of her weight issues and is finding new confidence.

It is so scary to be in the hospital with serious health issues. Specially for those that have no relatives. A word of a nurse or a doctor assuring us that we are going to be ok, can make a big difference. Thanks God for all of those in the medical field that work 24/7 tirelessly to helps us in the journey to get healthy again. ❤

The other children know Adam is brighter than the rest of them. It’s even worse when a teacher acts jealous because the child accurately corrected them. Gifted children sometimes do get bullied just for being too smart, especially if they’re pulled out for part of the day for “gifted classes”.
