The only down side is that it’s not midline attachable. Other than that I really love the tool!! All my ropes have electrical tape on the first 3” so it’s easy to feed the rope.
I've been climbing on a zigzag for roughly 14 months and my only complaint is that it's so smooth the smallest of twigs can accidentally drop you, not far bc it engages immediately but it will break your concentration. When installing my friction saver I always tie a slip not above the chain to prevent watching my rope slip completely out and not fight gravity while I feed it through the rings, same concept as a rigging rope backsliding. It's a fantastic piece of gear. Definitely needs additional brake in SRS although I know some who don't.
I threw a rope wrench on it and it stopped the twig slam. It took a lot of tweaking but I got it nice with some homemade rubber tube grommets and “THE FIX” tether. It’s so smooth and limb walking has never been more professional. I just unlatch the pzz and lay right on the rope wrench and it’s sic.
Bino, another informative video. Thanks. You inspired me to get a silver ivy in your other video. Just climbed on it today for the first time. I dig it.
Been climbing for 40 yrs . Never used anything but a climbing knot! He didn't demonstrate the climbing part well. Out of shape and no balance . But I see where it could replace the climbing knot. Little practice and it should save on burning your rope up coming down fast and less friction humping up! I'll get one
When using the Zigzag in DRT you're not suppose to tie a double fisherman's knot to the carabiner. The knot can come in contact with the top of the chain and collapse it dropping you. In DRT your rope should have a tight eye to connect to the carabiner. This is shown in a pic in the manual. Climb safe.
Yeah in a perfect world a tight eye would be ideal but it’s extremely useful to know how to tie a dead end rope to a carabiner safely.. In fact, I use a ZigZag with a fisherman’s knot tied to the carabiner.. exactly as Bino does.. Never had a single issue.. The zigzag has 2 hole options for your carabiner termination.. use the hole that’s farther away from the zigzag chain. Problem solved
Yes I saw the section in the manual and it shows a figure eight on a bight. It does say caution. It seems like the double fisherman's is narrow enough to not get hung up. Thank you!
In my opinion, the only difference between a double fisherman's and a sewn eye is that the eye is more slick and aesthetic. That's basically it.. both work just fine.
The second hole on the zigzag is for attaching another climbing device if you are climbing on two ropes. It means you have two systems with only one attachment on your bridge to keep flexibility and prevent twisting.
Good review …. I’ve always used Blake’s or prusik….. but have a zigzag on the way I’m very excited…. I don’t like how tight the Blake’s hitch is on the rope and twists the rope
I really love using the zigzag. Yes it is very smooth and once you get use to it it's even smoother and less jumpy. Love your videos thank you for the videos.
Love the videos but I have a question … when I change tie in points I was always told to leave my secondary connected and give the new tie in a good sit two or three times …have you climbed this tree before or is their a different reason u just trusted it ?? this has saved my bacon more than once thanks for the videos and be safe out their !!!
Silly question about karibeena and the kn rating I have two that don't have any markings on the but they are nice big chunky ones .Can you tell me if you know if I can let's say use them to fix a prusik to a pulley and the rope wrench or zigzag or should I just keep using as I do now to clip things to my belt .love the video very good keep safe
I would not us them as life support because the are not rated for life support. I'm more familiar with the rope wench and on the rope wrench your prusik cord and a rated carabiner are your life support so what connects the tether to the wrench does not have to be rated. I hope this helps.
The top hole is for the chicane and the mid hole is for your second line. Bottom is for attachment to you. The top hole only fits like 3 different types of petzl carabiner. Am'd, triac H beam I believe. I wish it was mid line attachable. It would be so sweet if it was..
I climb mainly SRT, so I'm always at a crossroads with the ZZ. I dont like adding the Chicane. Its bulky. I'm wanting to try the Notch RRP but some of the stories about it have me worried lol
It's very difficult to spend money on something that you don't know if it's right for you. I like the Rope Runner but for me and my weight it works good on only one of my ropes the Xstatic.
I actually did not like it and was going to sell it with the chicane but after a tree work last month and was able to use it as a Rad system, I love it.
the Flow rope would solve alot of your issues you talk about, give it a look i love it. it flows sooooo well almost to well it self feeds really well sometimes when you dont want it to. but definitely the best rope ever for the zigzag!
@@BinoH Yes, I think some guys have used it or a lockjack with a wrench, but it really shines as a mrs with a pulley friction saver. for regular srs and srt, I like the Akimbo, unless theres pitch and then its the ropewrench or the hitchhiker.
Looking forward to your chicane review. I use a rope wrench on mine, which petzl doesn't approve, but it's a little less bulky than the chicane, and I already had the rope wrench 😁. Thanks for your vids!
That's the thing about using mechanical friction devices you may forget your hitches. The one I use the most is the Rope Wrench so I am usually tying my hitch.
