Hey friend in 92 I had a tree fall on me, I know have received some negative comments on here. I know no matter how smart you are or how smart you think you are shit happens. When the tree fell on me I broke both pelvises, my back and left hip. I am happy I have had pretty much a full recovery. I truly hope you are doing good and have a full recovery. Gerard

festus51 wow,crazy story. I used to heli log in British Columbia,in 1997 I had a 6000 lb log fall on me and I was squished onto another big fir,broke my pelvis but was back to work in 4 months because I’m stubborn. 4 years ago as an arborist,I was in a bucket truck 70 feet up and the truck fell over,broke my back,pelvis again,hip in two places and shattered my right femur and it was a compound fracture,I know shit happens no matter if you’re cautious or not.Have some titanium pins and rods in me now 🤕

chris s his own fault
@neil9242
@neil9242 6 лет назад
Yes it was his own fault instead of cutting into the tree from both sides taking a wedge out first depending which way you want the tree to fall & the escape route he probably thought he would try & be clever by just cutting straight through very dangerous I'm not tree surgeon etc but you are just asking for something like this to happen when we do some stupid things in life.

Lesson to take away from this video-- always have an escape route cleared, and never stand by a falling tree. Hope this guy recovered well.

I believe the saw hung in the cut. He stayed with the saw which generated body momentum toward the tree then the tree kicked back and punched him.

This is what happens when you don't know what you are doing. Fifty yrs. of felling tree gives me the right to say that.
@thelasttimeitried
@thelasttimeitried 6 лет назад
@dirtyshirtinfo I agree. There's a tiny pocket at the tip of the saw that bound on the bar where he cut past and slightly above the pie. If he had backed out when the tree started to move it probably wouldn't have bound. Glad to be able to learn from footage like this.

This sort of thing killed my wife's uncle in Arkansas. There was a young man with little experience, simply unaware he was in a bad spot. The wife's uncle saw how the tree was dropping and where the kid was. The butt end was going to hit him. He shoved him out of the danger while putting himself. He did his best to get clear but got pinned by that large old growth monster. He was getting crushed screaming for the guys to cut it off him. He was conscious while it had him pinned, but he was fading out. He knew what was next. He asked if the other guy was ok. They got it cut and off, which released the pressure on his ruptured organs and he bled out right there. Screaming.... Tyler was fortunate that his injuries weren't worse.

Watching videos like these makes me real happy i decided to take tree felling lessons before felling my first tree... People like to criticize but the simple truth is that it's easy to make mistakes in this line of work, especially if you've never been taught and don't have any training or experience. It's a craft that has been perfected over countless generations at the cost of many lives. It's not as straightforward and obvious as people on the internet like to make it out to be. Also, there's lots of comments saying what this guy should have done to avoid the accident, but there's really one thing above all that anyone looking to fell trees professionally or privately should do. Namely to SEEK PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION. Paying a certified professional that has actual experience working in your field to actually show you what to do and what to look out for is worth every penny you spend. They've already made the mistakes, or they've seen people around them making mistakes with dire outcomes. Paying them to show you what to do so that YOU don't have to make those same mistakes might cost you some money in the moment but you'll earn it back many times over by being able to avoid being crushed by trees or cut up by equipment. Nobody wants to end up crushed under 10 tons worth of tree or with a chainsaw lodged in their face/gut/leg/wherever.
@islagkage15963

i hope he (you?) is well. and will recover. but please to everyone who fell trees. either as a job, or hobby. be careful. make sure your facecut is even and clean that the angled cut and the horizontal cuts meet perfectly, cut in the proper height, use wedges, use the technique called "danish pie cut" where not all the tree is cut before putting in wedges (or felling lever) and then the last bit of wood is cut. and you move away. leave the saw if you must.

There was a notch and a small hinge, his saw got hung and drug him into the path after the tree bounces on a incline, maybe you should learn how to cut trees without always hinging, I never hinge while cutting timber.

Wasn’t watching the top of the tree, didn’t plan an escape, looks like a single cut but I could be wrong, he did not alert anyone that he was falling the tree, looks like he’s falling it uphill (maybe to prioritize structures). Honestly if you have to fall it uphill and you’re not pulling it, you should have hinge cut it. That tree is huge, this looks like a small project, I know it takes longer but cutting off 7 feet MAX is standard practice if you’re not pulling it. This must not be in Oregon.
@bryangatewood6749
@bryangatewood6749 7 лет назад
This sux man!! Unfortunately this could have been avoided by establishing the hinge letting it guide the fall and having enough time to get out of the way!! That was a painful lesson to learn.

Chainsaw safety 101 rules broken include: People in the falling area, No safety route away from the tree, Cutting from the low side of the tree, Undercut 1/2 way through tree, Dutchman undercut, Chasing a cut, Cut off holding wood, Didn't observe tree movement. That is (8) of the "never break these rules or your dead" rules. Don't let that man ever cut down another tree.

1/ make your angled scarf cut 1st. Then horizontal. Takes out the guess work. 2/ small scarf. 3/ you cut through the hinge. NEVER cut through the hinge. Learn how to use wedges. 4/ make your back cut 2inches higher. Work wedges in pairs behind saw. Learn how to do a quarter cut where needed. 5/ luv from New Zealand.

Everyone is slating the guy but that looks like a shiny new helmet, usually indicates a fairly fresh groundsman. Anyone with experience would have assessed that the tree was always gona lift on the hill. You can tell from the diameter of the base and the hight of the hill that all the head weight was finishing above the hill. I would blame whoever was in charge that day, they should have been keeping an eye on that tree being felled. You know they didnt as you can hear them asking what happened. Hope the guy is ok, this vid just freaked the fuck out me.

Looks like this guy tried to pull his chainsaw out of the tree and bring it with him, but because it go stuck, he got pulled with it. Never focus on trying to bring your chainsaw with you, drop that son of a bitch and run. It doesnt matter if your chainsaw gets broken, if you die, theres deffinately no more fellings to be done. Sidenote: this tree is more than big enough to use safer felling techniques than i the video. Such as the one where you leave a corner in the back of the felling-cut (dont know its name in english)
