🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Adam... that forest is gorgeous! I keep explaining that I (a Canuck) live in southern Michigan. It is flat and there is NO woodland that is not been weedled through by the farmers who once worked the land and so there is nothing that is truly "old growth". Also there aren't nearly as many hiking trails available... some "land preserves" have been willed to the townships by dying farmers but nothing GRAND... nothing "mossy". Very bushy... scrubby. It is hard for me to subdue my envy. 😕

Hi Adam. I've managed to find a local woodland with some absolutely fantastic old trees etc. I'm learning how best to photograph some of the trees using some of your techniques and I'm loving it!! I've got loads of ideas / subjects and every time I do another recce I find something else. Thank You so much!!

Great video Adam, lovely music accompaniment too. Your photos really have summed up the chaotic yet ethereal nature of the area. Favourite shot is definitely the pano at the start of the video, lovely composition and I think the lighter area in the background does a good job of drawing the viewer through the image 👏👏

I admire your efforts to document the old growth forests before the loggers arrive. Have you considered enlisting British Columbia TV and newspapers in the effort. As a retired newsman, I think the combination of your beautiful photographs and your righteous preservation campaign would be a no-brained for featured coverage. Hopefully, environmental groups would support you as well.

The local news did a spot yesterday in fact on the spotted owls. There are 3 left in the wild in BC. The story was on the breeding program and the lack of genetic diversity, hence the arrival of a rescue from California. The bc breeding program now has 29 spotted owls and they are hoping to increase numbers to 250. The irony is that the demise of the spotted owls is due to loss of habitat. The old growth forests are their home turf. The news story failed to mention that. You can share the issues with the media outlets and hope for coverage but sadly I think that they are too linked in with big business. Of course, if you have any suggestions on how to more effectively get their attention or if you have any connections, please let me know :)

You hit the nail on the head there; organized chaos is right. Or rather the photographer organizes the chaos? You do quite well as an organizer. :) Beautiful trees, beautiful woods. I keep hoping that the folks at @fairycreekblockade @ancientforestalliance and @rainforestflyingsquad convinces the government and/or Teal Jones to stop this crazy logging of these beautiful forests. I honestly don't understand how they can't see this is horribly destructive to not just these trees, but the entire ecosystem. Anyway, I'll keep trolling Horgan's Facebook posts. lol Got a rise out of someone with his same last name last week. 😁 Anyway, that opening sequence with the drone was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for the great video! 👍 🌳

as a photographer and a logger, i understand the beauty in old growth, but those loggers are just hard working men trying to provide for their families. they earn their living in the most difficult way possible. we all use wood every single day.
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto Год назад
Yes, but what does that have to do with logging old growth forest? Since (depending who you ask) lets be generous here and say 15% of old growth forests are left in BC assuming its for the better quality timber, all in the last 100-150yrs. How long do you think this 15% of old growth will support these jobs? and their families? I dont think anyone would disagree that logging is essential but old growth? how about the biodiversity of life that these forests support? How about companies start to properly manage 2nd growth and 3rd growth to support logging rather than relying on whats left of old growth. I dont get it and I dont buy the "we have to support our families BS" if they are serious about it then start managing our forests in a sustainable manner. How about logging responsibly to support a healthier planet and their jobs?

Fantastic video Adam, living on Vancouver Island myself it's really upsetting as to why they still continue to log the last of the Old Growth. It is worth more standing then logged. Also I don't understand why anyone would give this video a thumbs down. This channel is one of the best photography channels on RU-vid and is highly underrated. Hey Adam, did some experiment with the 23mm and the GFX100. From what I can tell, diffraction kick in quite a bit a f/11 and above. The lens it’s noticeably sharper from f/5.6 to f/8! Just posting this as I saw you were down to f/16 in the first shot. Best, Felix
@QuietLightPhoto
@QuietLightPhoto 3 года назад
Thanks! I've never really concerned myself with diffraction as in most cases most people are really not going to notice it except perhaps in the largest of prints. I realize that it is somewhat counter productive to spend a lot of money on medium format and prime lenses and to not take advantage of their best qualities but I often use f16 and f22 going for depth all in one shot rather than stacking images, that has been changing lately though as stacking is so quick and easy .
@fbimagesphoto
@fbimagesphoto 3 года назад
@@QuietLightPhoto absolutely. You have to pixel peep to start seeing a real world difference for sure! The focus bracketing option is nicely implemented, but focus breathing is a bit of a pain, even with the GF primes. I’m patiently waiting for their Tilt shift offering to show its face ha

The shot at 12:15 ish is great - almost architectural. I tried a couple of times in that grove to get shots on Velvia 50 using a 6x17 pano but that was just taking on too much - limited dynamic range and too much info with the width of the shot. Wish I had used a narrow field and a few more mm of lensage. Some time in the future maybe.....cheers!
