Thank you, I’ve been working on trying to determine the difference between the various oak species, and because they vary so much from tree to tree, I’m having difficulty determining the difference between Red Oaks without looking at the leaves.

Thanks. Video was helpful to me. I have a huge 3 lead white oak that's shedding it's bark. And I was wondering if you thought that was normal. Leaves are healthy, so far. But a lot of bark shedding.
Sorry for the delayed response. Shedding of bark is normal in white oak if it is plates of bark coming off with bark underneath it especially higher up in the tree.
Came researching red oaks,i been sawing trees for 40 years in eastern virginia and just took down a 30 inch dead tree i thought was a white oak from the shag bark and it is even redder than a regular red oak,i mean very red like cedar. weird tree,i do have 2 12 foot sections for the sawmill, will slice it up soon.
Yes it can be harder for them to climb especially if the bark were to break off or if they are in a hurry. But they will still climb them if they really want to.

Yes I manage my timber & timber for others on a 10-15 year cutting cycle. There can be very good returns on timber if it is managed properly. High values tree species make that easier but even lower quality trees can be managed to grow better & faster than letting nature take its course.
I bought 80 acres with 68 acres of woods. I have a lot of red oak and white oak along with some hickory cherry and basswood. A lot of trees 16-18 in diameter. Wish it was a little thicker for deer hunting
@@Jay-hu1pc Yes thicker would help the deer but trees that size are just starting to get value to them. You wouldn't want to cut much of them because as they get bigger then you could have some real value in the timber.
