Tree Peony - Kokamon 2021 

I don't have one favorite above all others. I like fragrant flowers and there are many. Japanese varieties are not so fragrant but very beautiful and I love them very much as well. White peonies Bai Xue Ta, Xiang Yu and Yao Huang have wonderful fragrance, I love them very much. Pink peonies Yu Ji, Lu He Hong and Li Yuan Hong have strong fragrance and I love them very much. Red peonies Lou Yang Hong, Shou An Hong and Wu Long Peng Sheng have strong wonderful fragrance and I love them all very much. I also grow some tuberoses and jasmine for their fragrances. I'm not feeding it any fertilizer now, no watering either, it gets enough natural rain and snow in Philadelphia climate. It just grows and flowers on their own with almost no care years after years. I only need to stake or trim it to a nice desirable shape plant. When planting, ideally, you should dig a good size hole at least 2-3 feet wide, 1-3 feet deep, in clear sunny spot. I mixed the soils with fertilizers at the beginning when planting; mix soft gardening soil with some ground soil, mix in some perlite, and fertilizer like azomite and bat guano. Fill the hole with these well mixed soils. Then plant your peony there. Water when it's too dry at the beginning, but the planting spot needs to be well drain. That's how I planted my peonies, and then I didn't have to do much else after. Once established after 2-3 years, it can grow and flowers on its own years after years without much care. Most of these tree peonies were almost 10 years old when I planted them, 10 years ago. So most of them are about 20 years old.

My garden is small and too crowded, so I dug up and donated about 50 peonies plants this Fall. I did much renovation and now it's a bit more spacious, with over a hundred herbaceous peonies on one side and 35 big tree peonies on another side of the garden, with about 30 more little seedling.
