In this video, I use two 5 to 1 pulley systems in a compound 25 to 1 system to finally pull out a tree I have been trying to get rid of. You can see my first attempt to get rid of this tree here:
• Pull down a tree with ...
I used single sheave pulleys for the system that would have the higher forces on it. I explain why I did that in this video:
• Convert a 5 to 1 Pulle...
Equipment used:
Pulleys: GM climbing, 32kN, double sheave
GM climbing, 32kN, single sheave
Rope: Sterling 12.5mm HTP
Chain: 5/16 inch, 3900 lb working load

very good I started with block n tackle about 15 years ago and have pulled many stumps and even pull large trees down. I use my compact tractor to pull, I have a 7:1 that I connect to a5:1 for the big ones the power there is unbelievable its quite a bit of work but very satisfying to see that stump crawl out of the ground.

Liked what you did. I Pulled a 12 inch aspen out of my yard last summer with a 150 to 1 system with a progress capture pulley set up to hold my lines tight while I reset. I was looking at what you had there and saw a much more efficient way. When you were at a 20:1 ratio, you could have used that extra pulley from your dad and doubled the whole system making it 40:1 by bulling your 5:1 with a 2:1. 2 x 5 x 4 = 40. Also, you wouldn't have had to break down any of your rigging. Get yourself a prusik loop to set as a progress capture and you can hold tension on the system while you take a break. Either way, I liked it. It's fun to do stuff like this.

Thanks. I think having a prusik is a good idea and will get one soon.

150to 1 ? How many miles did you walk to get the slack out of the system? 😂

If you had rented an excavaor, we wouldn't have this cool video.

That's pretty good with just "human power." I need to get smart ('er) on the mechanical advantage block and tackle.

lotta vids on youtube showing how to tie onto the tree and pull up towards the sky. trees are not made to resist being pulled up. it was interesting though. i was curious what it took and you showed it.

It's generally not safe to loop anything around your limbs or torso, even if you have a huge mechanical advantage, just in case shtf

Good point. I will try to avoid this in the future.

All you guys putting these videos up need to lookup a tigger used in the electrical trade.

Does the strength of the rope needs to be rated at the total force or just one “leg” of the pull? In other words, will a 500 pound rated rope work?
@experimentofme2161
@experimentofme2161 2 года назад
Only needs to be rated at tension force you will apply(plus safety factor) even if force the pulley applies to the load is much higher. Always include a safety factor, knots and sharp bends in the rope reduce strength significantly. If the rope breaks, it is extremely dangerous.

Honestly, if you wanna do stuff like this, then get a lever hoist or come along, saves you time and money .

I believe that with this principle you were efficient but not effective because to be effective the job would be faster, and like you said, you would rent an excavator so you would get the stump out as you did with the pulleys but this time faster, and that is what would make the effort effective. Both words come from Latin and some times we mix them up. Same thing is with effect and affect. Depending on what effect you kick the ball with, that will affect the ability of the goal keeper to get the ball. Good job anyway!

Anybody else notice the big blue Ford truck 20 feet away. I guess you couldn't get it started up.Maybe a dead battery or something... Hey now that it all done would you like to sell the pulleys?

Just subscribed, my sons and cleared many acres of woods, using a kubota mx5100, 3/8 aircraft cable 8/1 mechanical advantage, check our channel we use battery saws also. Take care and be safe 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸

I wouldn't the rope get twisted like the way it is in the clip you have, it make the job harder it needs to be
@georgesimpson3113
@georgesimpson3113 2 года назад
Just tie the stupid rope to the truck... 25:1 you can pull the thing out. And if you care at all about the tree you'll never use a chain around it.

Good point about the chain around the anchor tree. I have since picked up another strap to be nicer to my anchor trees.
