Trek Bicycle Dual Sport 8.4 Test Ride & Ordered in Color Viper Red! - June 13, 2015

Been looking for a new bike and have studied what would work best for a combination of trail rides as well as the occasional Charity rides through out the year. It was between the Raleigh Tamland 2 and this Trek Dual Sport which has the front shock this is the bike! Ordered in the Viper Red which should have it at the bike shop by 3rd week in June. Flythe Cyclery has been in business beginning as a sporting good store here in Raleigh since 1946.

You have yourself the Lexus of all bikes. Awesome presentation on a great bike. If you spend a majority of your time enjoying biking, this is the one you deserve and should get..

Thanks for the review i'm thinking about buying one that's gonna be my first bike (one that i don't use to just get to the train station). I'm really big on running but i want to do more. Is this a good bike for some faster rides ? Thanks

Nice review.... I just purchased the same bike in Black yesterday and I'm curious that you mentioned the bike was on Sale at your shop. What did you pay?

luv mine..got it back in May..only problem I'm gonna have is gears..Bike rides so good I'm riding on the last few gears..lol

+ciscothelight Hi Ciscothelight thanks for viewing yes you got yourself a nice bike really like it as well. Completed several 30+ mile rides and smooth as silk and you still feel good when you get off it. It will be a great bike just want get it dirty got others for that, thanks again and take care!

Liked the review... preparing to order the same bike. Had a Giant XR2 all picked out but changed my mind at the last minute. Going with the 8.4 DS... How is the saddle on this bike?

+Ben McCameron Hello Ben McCameron thanks for viewing. You will really like this Trek very light weight and very comfortable to ride as well. The saddle is made by Bontrager none of them are comfortable but its about as good as you will get, bike pants make them all better. Really like it, have ridden a mixture of several charity bike rides with it this year as well as paved trail rides. It comes up to speed really quick so those hydraulic brakes are a big plus to get it stopped. I also looked at the Raleigh Tamland I which I have several other Raleigh bikes. It just did not feel right, this Trek did and also had the front shock. I bought the Viper Red in color great bike you will really like it, let me know how it goes for you!

21” frame; how tall are you, and how well does it fit you? You mentioned “very light weight”; have you weighed it?

I'm currently deciding between a Trek DS 2 and DS 4. The 4 is lot better component wise but the DS 2 comes in the viper red that looks awesome! What should I do?

Hello Neil thanks for viewing, I also bought the same model as this one which was just a test ride ordered and got the Viper Red and just love it!. It is almost a personal preference the DS4 looks to have the 10 speed or total of 30 gears versus the DS 2 has 8 speed or 24 gears. If I read the latest specs correctly on these. I really wanted the 30 gears as well but didn't want to spend that extra money for it and it was limited in colors as well. This one I got the DS 8.4 is a 9 Speed or 27 gears. Its personal preference depending on where you are planning to ride if lots of ongoing hills consider the extra gears is the DS 4 if not the DS2 in that Viper Red and the color you would be happy with is the easy choice!

tyler rentz Hi Tyler Rentz thanks for viewing should be a really nice bike, the Dual Sport has great reviews. Will get this in time to get some miles on it before an upcoming charity ride in July. Trek has some really nice Mountain Bikes as well you should check out, this is the first new Trek for me have had a number of Raleigh bikes. Change is good they say! Take care

+Alfonso Isunza Hello Alfonso thanks for viewing! I am 6 ft. 1 inch this size fit me perfect with the larger type of wheels on this Trek. You will really like this bike very smooth and gets up to speed really quick let me know what you think when you get it.
