I have a 23.8 lbs Exie and after watching your BC40 video I “influenced” a friend to get one for his second bike. He had a Ripley and a Ripmo. He sold the Ripmo and got the BC40. That’s his #1 now. I used his BC40 for two rides ~ 1h30 long. I did not think I would like the BC40 this fast or more than my Exie, I was wrong! I don’t care if you race or not but the BC 40 with the SID 120 is truly special on all kinds of terrain.

I seriously think it’s the best bike on the market. Just always feel locked into it on the trail. I think the magic is your really in the bike instead of on top of it

👋 Hello together! How does the geometry change when changing from 120mm to 130mm fork? Steering/seat angle? Which 120mm fork would be a recommendation - doesn’t have to be high end, but nicely light 😉. I currently have the Fox 34 Rhythm Grip 120mm in it 🥴... A Pike with 130mm would also be interesting because of the ButterCups 🧈...

I love my Top Fuel 9.8 XT. I have to agree though, all I could get in the down tube storage was a spare tube and an extra Co2 cartridge. And, I ride a M/L.

Flipping the chip was a major improvement for me. Bike alows for better counter steering in techytrails. I felt no change in bike stability at high speed decents, buttt Im in SoFL so our decents arent the fastest and are short lived. Im keeping the chip flipped from it factory setting, corners exactly as I need.

Agree on the weight. The old Top Fuel was more of the XC variant. This also reminds me of the Yeti SB120…too heavy for a 120 bike.
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
100%. I think the yeti is a good comparison to this current model

I had the previous generation Top Fuel and I loved it. This spring had a crack in the frame and Trek warrantied the frame but the current model and I must admit it’s a tank and I can’t figure out what I can do to lighten it up. I had to go with a dropper post which I didn’t want but the diameter is so wide that even with a shim I couldn’t get the seat to hold. It’s a fun bike to ride but definitely heavier than what I wanted.
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
That’s what I mean. It’s a bike for the fuel ex customer. Not the top fuel customer.

Storage compartments f@cking rock. Load it up with what you need. Then forget about ever grabbing tools. Hit the trail and go. I don't want a pack for an hour ride. Then for all day adventures I have more space for nutrition. Go ride the Mach 4 if you don't want a door lmao

I agree with both of you. It’s not a feature I use ever but doesn’t bother me. I understand her point tho. The small frames make it less useful.
@laupe2347
@laupe2347 7 месяцев назад
I believe the main reason they went to a 130mm fork was because the 120mm Rockshox SID forks had SO much problems with bushing play. So they went to 130mm so they could use the PIKE
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
The Fox bikes switched to 130 also. And it’s still 130 even though the new forks been out.
@laupe2347
@laupe2347 7 месяцев назад
@@bicyclestation Yes, but they can't have a Rockshox model with 130mm and a fox model with 120mm. And switching back to 120mm would just create even more confusion.

I couldn't agree more ! Got 2023 Top Fuel frame as a guarantee replacement and It is a cool bike, but I had to replace dropper and fork for a new build. Without suspension lockout and heavier weight (L frame with SRAM GX/XX1 27,3lbs) it is no longer as XC as previous iteration. Supercaliber is more like a softtail than proper full, and with weight similar to Orbea Oiz 120/120 its still heavy as hell with very little travel. As You said, Trek has a BIG HOLE in their lineup in my opinion
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
I wish they would have just made a new bike. Like at our shop locally everyone road and raced top fuels. Now they all want a super lightweight 120 bike and they have to switch to other brands to find it.

Non racers complaining about the TF being heavy are funny. Im 20lbs overweight and still placing with the XC bikes on Strava segments (even 45 minute full park loops) on my 30lbs 2021 FUEL EX. Fitness is the biggest factor, not a 3lb difference between bikes.
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
For me being fit it matters a lot. Yea I can muscle the bike to hit faster times, but the amount of energy required to do it is way more then hitting that same time on like an epic evo or bc40. Not a viable bike in a race due to the weight unfortunately.
@frienduro24
@frienduro24 7 месяцев назад
Sure, but you would be faster on a lighter bike. Maybe even much faster. Seconds and mins is eternity
@UltimateTuner10
@UltimateTuner10 7 месяцев назад
@@bicyclestationI’d go TF for the geometry and shorter more efficient suspension. The weight is so minuscule compared to those it doesn’t really matter unless you’re at a very high level (which you may be) but most riders are not. Then again I said the same about people trying to shave 20g off their SL8
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
We’re talking 4-5lbs when compared to bikes with similar geo. I think weight matters a ton. The idea that only high end racers will benefit from a lightweight bike doesn’t make sense. If a high end racer benefits, then in turn everyone would also benefit from it, it’s still people riding bikes. When you ride a heavy bike and a lighter bike back to back it’s more obvious.
@UltimateTuner10
@UltimateTuner10 7 месяцев назад
@@bicyclestationfor sure, but for reference one of my fastest MTB buddies was 2 minutes slower on a 45 min lap on a fuel ex vs a top fuel, if you’re racing that’s huge but for everyone else just “bumbling around” it’s not a big deal, IMO. Heavier bikes in my experience also feel like they hold their line better in chunky terrain Side note just realized I bought a set of Line Pro wheels from your guys eBay store before I ever stumbled on your channel, so huge thanks for that!

With the Gen 2 Supercaliber, Trek has their pure XC bike now. Makes no sense to race a heavy slacker bike when more than half the time is spent climbing.
@bicyclestation
@bicyclestation 7 месяцев назад
That’s what I’m saying. There’s a hole in the line up for a longer travel XC bike.
