So today we are going to talk about trekking poles. Now they are not the answer for everyone, but I will tell you why I love them, and you can make your own decision on whether to use them or not. Let me start by showing you the ones I have:
BRAND: Trail Buddy Trekking Poles
SPECS:
Length: 24.5 - 54 inches
Weight: 10.2 ounces with basket and rubber tip
Construction: Aluminum or Carbon Fiber (lighter but vulnerable to breaking).
Handle: Cork, Rubber (can sweat the hand and cause blisters in warm weather)., Foam
Features: mud basket, snow basket, rubber tip, shoe tip. Some are equipped with an internal spring that acts as a shock absorber.
Why trek with poles?
-When you are carrying a pack, it helps distribute the weight to more of your body. Your shoulders, arms will take some of the burden off of your legs.
-Also helps with your stability and balance when you have your pack on.
-When you are moving and using them correctly, trekking poles will assist in traction and propulsion.
-When going uphill, trekking poles will help you dig in and give you something to lean on when making those steep ascents.
T-rekking poles will keep you centered and hold you back when traveling downhill. I find that they really save my knees.
-You can use them to check the depth of water, snow, and mud.
-When crossing a stream they can be used to maintain footing on slippery surfaces, and to maintain balance on logs and rocks.
-Can be used to clear out spiderwebs, brush, and limbs.
-I once used mine to coax a snake off the path.
-Could be used to defend yourself from wild animals, domestic animals, or crazy people.
-Can be used to prop up a shelter, or to construct other useful devices (Prop stick, camera prop).
Why not trekk with poles?
