Choosing trekking shoes is always a worry for trekkers. It's a big investment and you want to make it right. But many wonder if they can make do with sports shoes on their treks. So in this video, we look for the major differences between a trekking shoe and a sports shoe.
This was shot at Decathlon with their Quechua Trek 100 shoes and their Kalenji running shoes. By the end of the video, you'll know which shoe to choose, whether you're going on a Himalayan trek or a trek in the Western Ghats.
There are 4 points to look into when you are comparing trekking shoes and sports shoes.

While on the way to tapovan, saw 5-6 nepalis(porters) carrying a lot of weight and coming down all the way from nandanvan. Guess what they were wearing.... Hawai Chappals 😄

Hi Swati, besides the Trek 100, which have the greatest protection against water while trek, are the other shoes available at Decathlon for trekking that aren't as protective against water, as good? There are two other style of shoe's (if my memory is correct) that are made of other fabric then that of Trek 100. Would be great if you did a video on those other shoes in comparison to the Trek 100 if there are differences that are significant Regards Ayub Khan

Beleive me yo don't require any fashionable and costly shoes Just keep your spirit's high since when these commercial companies made trekking a business they want you to beleive that you can do nothing without a expensive gear, I myself have done so many treks and never bought trekking shoes, even once I have done it in my School PT shoes too, if you are looking for comfort in mountain then please stay at home we go there to face challange and peace of mind, quick decision making, not for show offs on social media.

Suggest some hiking shoes which has grip as well as light weight. I am going to Sandakphu for hiking. I am not used to wear heavy shoes which you are showing. I have pain in my ankle after an accident. So I'm lil bit concerned. And I want to wear it casually some other time as well.

Shoes ... poah, sorry ... for me they're torture instrumenrs. At least, I don't like to wear shoes. Never in nature. Being a barefoot hiker, my bare feet are the best shoes in the world. And even life is better (healthier, happier and comfortable) in bare feet ... as said Sebastian Kneipp. Barefoot is natural, so normal.

Breaking in trekking shoes doesn't sound good. I have never broken in any shoes. If it feels uncomfortable within an hour, I am done with the shoe.

thats the difference between shoes and boots - the latter are stiff when new because of harder materials, but after wearing daily for a week, the upper folds where your foot flexes while walking, and from that point they get really comfortable. Also your foot gets used to the boot.

Marvellous job on the audio and visual quality in producing this, one comment I’d make is that while your comments are valid on the sort of hiking shoes one should wear while trekking for days on end, it comes back to the wearer’s preference because I hiked the Kokoda trek for about 8 days and wore Reeboks which lasted me the entire journey and I’m very thankful that I did not get any serious injuries.

@@meghaseth5815 I have found it through a Quora answer, even u can attend the Himalayan camp by doing a 21 day meditation in home with their given audios, after that u need to submit their questionnaires on your experience of meditatin, camp is for free for all sincere spiritual seekers.

My uses are rough to be honest and my shoes are easily torn out... Even though I use casually no same shoes has ever been for more than 2-3 months.... Should I wear trekking ones even casually?... My weight is heavy almost 75-80kgs... So carrying 500gms more won't be a problem... But I really need to know wearing trekking shoes would be good on regular?

That's true, if you leave comfort aside, you can trek with any kind of slippers -- even in the early days of Indiahikes, most of us trekked with canvas shoes. But with better gear, your quality of trek rises and you can pay attention to other things around you! :)

Trek 100 are horrible shoes the grip got torn apart in only 3 treks used it only in brahmtal and kheerganga and in kinnaur kailash both the shoe grips together got torn and left me in great problem in between a trek buying a shoe that costs 7000 you think that it will atleast last ypu 10 treks but 3 treks were way to less

That's very strange, because we have used the Trek 100 shoes extensively and they work very well. Even our Trek Leaders use it because it lasts them a very long time. On the other hand, we rent out the same shoes, and despite repeated shoes they last several months and seasons. Compared to most other shoes (within and outside Quechua) we have found these to be most durable.

Just get trail runners. Lighter, more breathable and much more comfortable. Ankle support is not as important.

Hmmm, the trek has steep ascents and descents. Many snowy and slushy sections u as well. We would definitely recommend shoes with good ankle support and grip. You could rent it out if you're not keen on purchasing it.

What all you said is not correct . For example some trail runners have very good grip and they are very good for treks as they have more soft sole then the treking shoes another thing is if you are a regular treaker then you will also accept that in the back country you feets are bound to get wet .The question is not if but when . 🙏
