I finally got the TREMEC TKX mocked up in the Super Bee to see if it fits as claimed.....

We are currently building a 1969 Dodge Charger and we are considering the TKX as part of the drive train, so Thank you for showing this because this confirms that we will not have to cut the floor up in order to install it.

Thanks for this video. I have a 69 A body and the trans tunnel looks identical. I’m thinking about putting a 5 speed in my car and this info was very helpful. Thanks

Thank you for all your hard work in checking this out for us! I just got a 1969 Super Bee with a 3 speed automatic, and I’m swapping in a 6 speed manual so I can daily drive it, and have more fun than a 1/4 mile at a time. I think I would throw my back out now at 54 so I am going to have some much younger install it! How much did it run ya? Just curious I gotta get one anyway but it would be nice to know

@@FamilysGarage Really?! The full kit I found for a 6 speed that can handle the power and torque mine has is $8,500 from Silver State Transmissions is a Magnum Tremec. 750 HP N/A Where did you get yours? If I could get one for $5k I could eventually do the front end upgrade which is about $5k as well

that was interesting, Ive wondered if a THX would fit my 1973 Challenger without buchering the tunnel sheet metal for the shifter location.
@FamilysGarage
@FamilysGarage Год назад
It should fit…American Powertrain or Modern Driveline should know.

This was great, thanks for doing this for us. One question - if you hadn't rebuilt your 4-speed, would you have gone with TKX? The 4-speed on my '70 Bee is shot and I keep going back and forth on whether to rebuild it or go with the TKX. Any input you have on this would be appreciated. Love the channel and thanks again.

I defiantly would have have put the TKX in if I hadn't already bought one for the Z28. The 4 speed shifts wonderfully after rebuild (that video is being edited) but these days with the speeds everybody drives you need 5th gear...Once the TKX is in the Z with the hydraulic clutch and all if we like it we will probably put one in the Bee too🙂!

Thanks for showing that. So the problem with fit would actually be the shifter location. I wonder if there is a fix for that without cutting anything.
@FamilysGarage
@FamilysGarage Год назад
The shifter is not a problem, the transmission I had is for a second GEN Camaro that’s why the shifter was offset, if you order the TKX for the Mopar the shifter will be in the right place.
@VegasRT500
@VegasRT500 Год назад
@@FamilysGarage According to the post below the shifter tunnel will still have to be cut up . That is a shame. I would have thought Tremec would have corrected that in order to have a trans that actually fits a B-Body Mopar. Things still have not advanced since the old Keisler 5speed kits from back in the day.
@FamilysGarage
@FamilysGarage Год назад
@VegasRT500 that is not correct, we didn’t have to modify our trans tunnels at all in the Bee for the TKX install…Go get that stick shift!!!!
@VegasRT500
@VegasRT500 Год назад
@@FamilysGarage What all did you have to modify on your 1970 SuperBee to put the TKX in it? Is your Superbee a factory 4speed car? I would be putting it in my 1970 Charger RT which is a original 440 4spd car. Did you have to do anything to the torsion bar mounting area? I installed a TKX in my 1968 Mustang GT500KR clone and it uses the same TKX trans as the Mopar but I havent driven it yet because am almost done with the restomodding of it.

Clearance for the TKX was never an issue around the case. Both American powertrain and silver sport kits, you still cut the floor for the shifter.
@FamilysGarage
@FamilysGarage Год назад
Are you saying you still need to cut the floor for the shifter with the TKX?
@JTGTX70
@JTGTX70 Год назад
@FamilysGarage Correct. The shifter tower doesn't align with the factory 4 speed hole. The silver sport kit gives you a cover plate that also acts as the template to cut the floor. The American Powertrain kit doesn't and the instructions just say "floor may need trimming "
@davidshields5423
@davidshields5423 Год назад
Tkx will fit only with a console, no console version needs offset mods like the Camaro. No one makes one yet as far as I know.
@JTGTX70
@JTGTX70 Год назад
@@davidshields5423 the console just gives the illusion it fits like a factory 4 speed shifter however floor is still cut. i did my 70 charger.
