I just wanna express my current obsession with this band because I cannot get over it. There are geniuses in their hands and how good they can play. But there are geniuses in how they compose. This band overall and their composition is perfection. Neither of the guitarists are quite leading but none are fully playing rhythm at any time either. They're just bouncing off each other and complimenting the drum part which is the only one playing at the highest level. I get why some people say the drummer Takashi is the lead of the band. And to top all of it off, the bass. Often simple but carries a lot of the context. This track in particular where the guitarists starts off playing something cool but with a hint of sadness. But it's in a place you can't pinpoint. It's almost like suspended in the air. Reminds me of the feeling when something bad happens but you're still in disbelief and haven't fully comprehended it yet. All while the drummer is making you groove to every part of the song. And then the bass player eases in. Gives context. The melancholic context. Almost like it finally dawned on you. Like, just the contrast of the section starting at 1:10 and the following part right after where the bass starts playing to give the full emotion is phenomenal. It's amazing how much context the bass is carrying. It's often overlooked in other bands where often times the bassist is just playing along because the guitarist playing the rhythm section usually already carries context. But here, it's all the bassist. And you feel it every time he comes in. Even when the guitarists can add some upbeat or uplifting tunes, the bassist plays in that sad tune that blends everything together. And I cannot express enough how it goes so well with how the drummer is offering some of the best drum part playing I've ever heard of. And at 2:33 where they all transition and all finally meet at the same exact place. A happy place. They quite literally give the song/track a happy ending. That rainbow making you smile that comes after the melancholic rain. It's mind-blowing how I feel like they just told me a story without uttering a single word. Bless your soul if you read all that. Thank you for your time. :D
One of my favourite songs ever. It’s amazing how in tune this band are with each-others playing/ideas. Even when it gets chaotic, everything sounds exactly where it’s supposed to be. It’s so satisfying to listen to.
Beautiful song! I’ve been listening to this every day on my walk to work. As a guitarist I’m trying to program the drums in GarageBand as an exercise but there really is no bringing the character and love this guy puts into his performance, and the guitars and bassist as well.
I'm very glad I discovered this band, this album, and this song in particular. This is so beautiful, there hasn't been many songs that beautiful in the midwest emo, math-rock, post-rock and that kind of vibes, whether it's instrumental or not. I understand why it's a cult classic
This comment reeks of ignorance. It's like that one user who insulted Kobe Bryant after his death and instead made condolences to his daughter which is pretty stupid.
Holy shit you know nothing about drums lmfaooo. This dude probably hears raw drum sounds and thinks it's trash because he's used to overproduced trash that gets snapped to a grid and replaced with artificial sounds. Cringeworthy comment for anybody who plays drums or knows music... Idk im just baffled....
