One of the greatest film franchises of all time, one that cares about characters and has a message of pragmatism, cunning and survivalism in the face of improbable science fiction.
Dude I'll never forget watching tremors for the first time as a little kid in the 90's, I was terrified to walk on the floor, I jumped from the couch to the chair ran to my room and dove to my bed. Jaws had me terrified to get into a boat, had nightmares of there being sharks in the pond behind my house. The good old days.
The shark from Jaws represents the unknown. It's an anomaly, a monster, something unique that neither the scientist Matt Hooper nor the fisherman Quint fully understand. The men that understood the science and the nature of the world do not see the danger it represents and both have an endearing respect for this creature that is literally trying to eat them. In the book, Hooper died too and Brody was the only survivor. The pragmatic police chief from the mainland that didn't even like the ocean or swimming, he cared about the safety of people and eliminating the problem the best way possible. Not studying it, not keeping it as a trophy, not triumphing over it but surviving. Burt Gummer continues that in his own way. It is the one with the clear view of their surroundings and the world, not the most-educated or the most-skilled with their heads in the clouds, but one with their feet planted firmly on the ground. They understand the danger that lies beneath, they are the ones best-suited to deal with it. Those are the ones that escape the Jaws... the ones who don't let the Tremors get to them.
You gotta watch the Series too- I loved these moving growing up, just pure amazaing nonsense - especially the "AssBlasters" And the Characters names are Eddie and Valentine
