Been using a kreg one for ages in conjunction with a biscuit joint. Use a few biscuits to keep it aligned nicely and pocket screws as clamps essentially while glue goes off. Great bit of kit
Hi, check out the Kreg Foreman, It’s the machine version of the pocket hole jig. No need for using a drill as it has an internal fixed router motor, not cheap £350 UK but I couldn’t be without mine now. 👍🏻🇬🇧
I brought the Trend unit years ago. The only problem is that it works best on 3/4" thick materials so that the screw comes out in the centre of the material being drilled. The Kreg version overcomes this by varying the height and hence angle for various thickness of materials.
Hi what are you screwing into behind the timber? You always want to get a decent amount of screw into the surface behind, realistically at least 30 or 40 mm but depends what's behind.
No need to adjust the jig for the size/thickness of the material? Just clamp, drill and go? Using all the same size screws? That’s the thing about the smaller PH jig.. you have to adjust it to suit the material size and thickness
I got one of these at a boot sale today. It didn't have the drill bit, clamp or screws ... The bloke didn't know what it was so he let me have it for £2..
I’ve got the kreg K4 and works in exactly the same way (I think the trend version was modelled on it tbh), genius for joining boards when you can’t see the pocket hole left. That said I’ve had success with filling with 2 pack and sanding for painted work or using matching or contrasting dowels. Great for putting drawers together too.
This makes me smile, when people look at things like this they think what a load of rubbish then they use it and think actually that’s really good 😆 great video 👍
Also have this trend which I got on Amazon for £50 . Have used the Kreg mini for years and it’s great. Gives you the option of using larger screws. The trend is good but if I had to purchase again I would spend the extra money on the Kreg K4 or K5
Nice to see someone getting the correct orientation for the screws on a 90 angle. So many on here would have the screws on the inside which means the screws would be heading towards the edge of the board which often results in splitting the edge of the adjoining board. Well done that guy 👍👍
In corners, the pockets should always direct from the outside in. When pointing from the inside out, the screw will end in that part of the plate where there is not enough material. This will result in a weaker join. Combing both pocket directions has no advantage. However, you could make pockets in both plates but often one side is in sight so you don't want pockets there for the esthetics.
It is so simple and easy to use i love mine. It would be even better if it had some sort of dust shroud. I find you have to keep cleaning it out as the dust gets in the way
Try the kreg that comes with a dust shroud. I think the armor tools jig also comes with a dust shroud. It really speeds up the process and you get better holes.
I make a lot of cabinets and use the Kreg Forman, cost £350 (check it out on youtube), best thing I ever bought. If you do a lot of cabs, please just buy this machine
Nice tool really enjoy your videos could you tell me what MDF you use for your cabinets and kitchens also do you know of a supplier where they cut to size in the UK cheers
Thank you!! I sometimes use morans as they have a cutting service but ive been leaning towards cutting edge workshop near watford as they are more accurate and give good quality boards, Medite i think. I use standard brown mdf for wardrobes and MR mdf in kitchens or bathrooms etc.
