I've seen people (young like me ...or younger) cross over the damned third rail ...what a stupid risk to put yourself through. Instead of using the damn bridge. This was at Chiswick. One guy who was about to miss his train was smart enough to find a gapped section near the platform. Still a risky thing to do , but the first example was just an utter disregard for life. If the third rail was amped up like a 25kv cable she'd be dead even without touching the actual rail or cable
@@bb-3653 Voltage may be less with 3rd rail but generally what makes a difference is that 3rd rail is Direct Current(DC) so when you touch it you effectively get glued to it per say and can't get yourself off Where as with 25kv OHLE which is Alternating Current(AC) You will just get thrown off if you touch it hence why it's voltage is higher but in reality it's less dangerous being AC & not DC
@Harry Tilbury hmm interesting why does it glue you to the track ,i.w hard to get people off? I assume grabbing it is not an option to avoid when all that electric is running through you aye? Also I'd still think 25kv running through you has a likely chance of doing life threatening damage but I get what you are saying, I feel like you'd probably have an exploded hole in your chest cavity or something, if this was on third rail.(maybe that's overkill)
we bright ones knew thereabouts not to ground those amps...even made it back to Isle o' Dr-Seuss here: 🍸 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mP94Hz552OE.html 💋
As a train driver myself I unfortunately see this all too often especially when there is a level crossing just after or before a station. Some pedestrians decided to jump the barrier even though there are stairs they could walk up and over and simply run across especially if its your train they want to get on. They never think that there could be a fast train or freight train passing through that doesn't call at that station which will hit them.
@@caramelldansen2204 Yeh well that’s my point, they should be granted immunity if they hit a trespasser. I suggest one of those cattle smashes that you see in the old western movies.
Sadly, when people are hit by trains it's the drivers and those that clean up (yes someone has to pick the bits up - that's the reality) that carry the true cost. The bit that gets me however is that too often the family of the person involved then blame the railway and do so publicly, even though the person circumvented the safety systems put in place. I contrast it to Switzerland where miles of track is unfenced, has trains running at 50mph+ on it, and common sense is expected of the public, in the same way it's expected of the public next to road.
@@albertbraid7117 Same in the US. It would seem British people have been mollycoddled and now have little or no sense of danger, and no commonsense whatsoever.
Don’t be stupid, Switzerland also has morons like that. Even the US has idiots walking around. If it isn’t trespassing on rail track, then it’s shooting around with guns killing innocent people! EDIT: Not even talking about the school shootings that are massively popular there!
@@v31.48 I'd very much disagree. They know it's dangerous, the Cantons and State know it's dangerous and they expect people to stay clear of it. That's my experience living and working there. It's very odd you brought guns into it however, but just to be clear: Switzerland has more guns than many nations (firearms provided by the state) and yet has a low gun death rate. People in Switzerland respect things, and others, and that's why it works as a nation.
When I was spending a day out in the Portsmouth area, some idiotic teenagers jumped the wall at Portsmouth & Southsea station. They then proceeded to walk up the platform ramp while kicking over some buckets of water that drivers can clean their windscreen with. Next, they walk past me and run across the tracks from platform 4 to platform 3. They were very lucky they didn't touch that 3rd rail, otherwise that would've been a terrible scene for everyone involved. Idiots, idiots, idiots. Never trespass!!
Well you won;t do, will you, because people look and listen before they cross, just as it tells them to at the thousands of line-crossing points that there are all over the network.
I lived in Shrewsbury for 27 years and not once did I see anyone do this there until watching this. That middle track often has freight passing through so he is lucky to be alive.
In past quite few years ago gner Kings x train at York, business person late parking ran up old platform jumped down onto track ran across jumped up on platform got in 1st class. He thought he was untouchable because 1st class ticket what an ass😠, we held train refused let it go till BTP boarded arrested him on train, as u can imagine train full business customers trespassing 1st class passenger shock of his life being grilled full carriage led off in handcuffs off train. Always sweet justice at some point these reckless fools.
I live in Canada (Montreal). And if you do this in the Montreal metro it can easily take your life because the rail is electrified on the ground. One misstep and you're gone. Thankfully I have never seen it happen but as a commuter, it's my worst fear.
I once remembered when i saw someone trespass at Fareham Train Station when i was getting off at the train and saw 2 teenagers crossing from platform 3 to 2/1 It was so lucky that they didn't touch the third rail
There are 2 ways to trespass the railway, the silly way and the smart way. However both ways are illegal and worth a prosecution at the end of the day to not even say deadly. Simple as that.
What a muppet! However, when I was in Riga, Latvia 🇱🇻 this was common practice. Passengers could simply walk across the track wherever they liked. I was very surprised by that!
I sadly witnessed someone trespass but didn’t realize what was happening ( disabled tourist) he sadly got hit by a train that wasn’t calling and passed I remember the scene in my head like it was yesterday.
I love how he walks at the speed my mother walks at when I've misbehaved to shout abuse at the driver for something that the trespasser did because he was too lazy to walk to the footbridge/underpass. What a muppet
He wasnt even just been cheeky and helping himself to a shotcut. He was just really weird as well. Watched it a few times and thought he was very strange
Well at least the idiot trespasser has not only been caught by the driver but when he tries to defend his actions well he's got nothing to defend with because he's been caught on camera Well dude well timed catch and hopefully that teaches the guy a lesson or two on basic page 1 on why no one is allowed to trespass on the railways
That Train Driver is EXTREME very cross with the Trespasser for cross tracks and threatens to call the police on the Trespasser. Also, trespassing on a railway line is illegal, a very serious crime.
@@xmathmanx If he gets hit, the traffic will have to stop while they investigate and collect all his body parts and clean the area. That affects all the passengers trying to get from point A to point B and it affects freight as well, causing a loss of money. It's in everyone's best interest that these people are cited or arrested. Otherwise, there's no incentive for them to not trespass.
Not only was this dangerous, but also a selfish act. An instant alert to shut all the tracks at that station until it was certain he wasn't going to do something else stupid and/or was in his right mind, would have delayed the train and all other passengers, also for other trains approaching that could have been delayed.
Driver says: [Unintelligable] [Unintelligable] [Unintelligable] You running across the tracks, Don't apologize to me! You dont do it! Looks like we're gonna have to kick you out the station now.
I'm so old I can remember when that sort of thing was common. It still is in the Highlands of Scotland where there are about two trains a day. Not a good idea on the electrified tracks of the south though.
I did that once in Poland and a security guard arrived, led me to an office where I needed to hand in my passport. I escaped with a 50 sloty fine and a royal ticking off
I am very lucky that I have never witnessed that in person I haven't heard of stuff like that happening in my area for quite a while but anyway that man was very stupid he should of been fined
Well in this -specific- situation I would say what he did was unlikely to cause him any harm. If he had his wits about him that is. Still, it wasn't right for him to do it because it would have (and did) upset the driver, and encourage copycat people to do it.
Something interesting, and important is happening, so I think I'll point the camera at literally anything else instead of the actual subject of the video LOL
And where were the BTP when this happened,,, probably drinking tea at the far end of Platform 3. 😁 Nice to see my old patch of track. 179 gang Shrewsbury Pway 👍👍👍
Been in this situation once bit at an active level crossing in nottinghamshire alarm was active and there a train a few hundred feet away moving pretty fast and this old bloke came up to the crossing looked bith ways and then started walking across during that situation I shouted "dude get off the fucking tracks there is a train coming" and he just gave me a gormless look the driver sounded his horn as well but I dont think he used the emergency brakes cos he kept going after that
Have you ever filmed someone who's clearly not all there? They can turn on you pretty quickly. OP probably didn't want the trespasser to see that he was being filmed.
Goodness me how some people can be thick and stupid in the head is way beyond me. I know there are rebellious teenagers that do this sort of thing but an adult? Wow!!
How many times have people been warned about the consequences of such actions. This man's behaviour is idiotic to say the least. There is sufficient provision to allow people to access platforms without doing what he did. If he were to have witnessed what happens to a person caught under the wheels of a train, he would have thought differently.
Never trespass on the lines, it's illegal I can't believe he did that, if you need to get to the other platform use the footbridge don't trespass on the tracks
I keep saying that there needs to be a footbridge for most people to get between P3 and P4/5/6/7 island. That said, the utter stupidity of such such an act is beyond sense. Exactly the same happened last Saturday and there were no BTP available as they were at Ludlow area with a different incident.
@@andyb3666 Because there is no reason whatsoever that intelligent, healthy persons like this guy should not cross a line to get from one side to another. I do it all the time at a crossing place near me: as ling as you look carefully and listen, the danger is precisely zero, barring the most unlikely chain of circumstances. Therefore, any rule that seeks to prevent such action is as stupid as would be, for example, a rule seeking to prevent people from swimming in calm seas off Brighton beach on Tuesdays.
"can't believe that"😂. Maybe he thought he saw a 37 on stock about to depart. Tell the driver to get stuffed, of course it was stupid. If he wants to report it to the BTs then let him....
@@murkydons7679 Are you in a different universe? These are diesel trains and there is no electric rail! In fact, wonderfully, Shrewsbury still does not have electric signalling, but still the old-fashioned, reliable levers. 🙂
@@jonb4020 Brother I was being sarcastic, I think it's hilarious that people actually think this guy got lucky by surviving and think we should all report him to BTP
did you figure that might happen as not a log was going on to be filming for so long? Eitherway, well done to the driver, I'd also get him kicked off for acting like a idiot.
