The Yankees employed Domingo German for years, so I think they can afford to take a flyer for an all-in season with Bauer given the knowledge out there and how bad he wants to play. The distraction will last like a week if he pitches well and there's no drama.

Imagine having your best year of your life doing what you love and then some random psycho falsely accuses you and you get everything taken away. Probably won’t ever get to play MLB again. It hurts every time I hear about it.

so many fans want this guy on their team (me included) it seems like the MLB just doesn't want a guy who was vocal about the cheating that was rampant in the sport (the use of sticky substances like stickum). He voices his concerns in 2018-19, MLB does nothing, Bauer uses stickum in 2020, wins Cy Young, proving what he could do while cheating at the same level of other pitchers. Next year MLB allows an illegal take-down of a player and continues to black list him even after being proven innocent in the US legal system. The MLB does not like having players in the league that they can not control.

Trevor Bauer is one of the best pitchers in the world.. but he's superior at playing the game between his ears.. this guy deserves to be seen again

I know there are contracts with incentives but I'm not sure about incentive based contracts? The pay structure Trevor described could make all sports better, however, I think it would be difficult for teams to manage and plan for especially in sports with salary caps. Imagine if multiple players on a team had incentive based contracts and all the players met or exceeded the incentives. That could get out of hand if teams didn't properly plan for that. The incentive scaling would be interesting as well. For example, would a strikeout scale the same for all players? If there wasn't a standard for incentives then teams would have to put a price each player (like they do now) and scale the incentives based on that. Seems like a lot of stress to me but for ultra competitive players I could see this as something they'd really want. Thanks Theo and Trevor for a great podcast, got my brain working good this morning!

I’ve followed this story very close and I followed what Trevor did with the BayStars. He is an AMAZING Pitcher who was unfairly and wrongly accused. I care about seeing injustices set right. Now I’m just hopeful an MLB Club out there cares about the same thing and sign TB. I wish it were my Cubs. Id love to see him in that rotation with Imanaga who was his Team Mate last year in Yokohama.

Basically all pro sports contracts should be incentive based. The type of contracts that he is describing are clearly the ones that make the most sense, they deserve to be paid for how they play. Perhaps with "insurance" clauses for injuries. This will never happen because teams with small budgets can't afford to pay young players who overperform expectations, and some great players play through their injuries to the tune of much lower numbers, but... there must be ways to do it. Incentive based contracts that cap based on service time, maybe great players get a "floor" value based on the previous 2-3 years of performance to protect from playing hurt costing them significant money.

I don't know why the Braves are adamant about not signing him. Get him for the league minimum plus incentives? How could you lose? He'd have to be a REAL destroyer of team chemistry for that to happen, and I think this ordeal has changed him.
