@@xmoonstarx it’s not dumb not hilarious to see demonic being actually talk like people and not some Shakespearen nonsense that pompous filled over and over again in so many media but thankfully the characters on this show talk to each other like human beings naturally. People say these “foul words” all the time and pretending that they don’t doesn’t give anyone class, it makes you lack social norms. And look at you think your some kind of big man just because you play games. Jesus give me a break. No cares if you think that and no one is going to buy into this “class” drivel that you think video games have. It’s a monster Hunter series fighting against demons, monsters, and vampires. Not everything is gonna to be overly serious.
@@Starlight-by3cf I love it cause it's realistic. If you have existed for so long with the sole purpose of watching people die over and over and over again, everyone would lose their emotions at some point.
@@Mediados Not lose emotions, more like not give a shit about anything anymore than immediate wants. Emotions don't just disappear with time, just change for the worst.
It's kinda like what Ratko says earlier in the season, about not caring about lying to humans because he sees them as being equivalent to pigs for slaughter. If you're going ro reveal your true form as Death and eat everyone in the world, why give a fuck what they think of you?
If i had lived millions of years i would not give a poo either, they are nobodies and humans and you are going to outlive them anyway, why should he care?
@@gazelle_diamond9768 Except he is a spirit that just took on the title "death" that feeds on souls. People will still die all the same with him gone, just not get their souls eaten
Mediados It's not that he can't be pleased, it's that he's familiar with the source material. The way the characters in the Castlevania cartoon talk fits just about as well as it does as it would in LOTR. It makes sense considering that the writer said he didn't look at any of the games but it comes across as immature to anyone familiar with them.
"Is there a point to this? Are you Dictating your fucking obituary to me Belmont?" Bruh the sass n shade behind that so perfectly befitting of a final boss for Trevor.
Keep in mind: Trevor is canonically one of the weakest Belmonts and he was still able to defeat Death itself in 1v1 combat. Imagine if Death had faced Simon, Juste, Richter or Julius instead...
Yeah, but this isnt working with canon at all. Hector as a Forgemaster was strong enough to pretty much beat Richter, Isaac (whom I still like better as the original, granted, Isaac on the show is a better character overall, but god damn, unhinged magnificent bastard Liam O'Brien is SO GOOD on that role even with a poor script) AND Dracula, and here he's just...well. That being said, yeah, Julius would have handed everyone their own ass.
To me, I feel like Death could easily be an allegory for Depression or Anxiety. A seemingly unbeatable enemy who can be overcome, even by a drunk like Trevor.
"Probably not. But let's just give this one last go. Shall we?" This quote made Trevor top-5 characters in entire fiction for me. He knows he will most likely lose and die, but it doesn't matter anymore because it's his duty as a man to protect woman he loves, his duty as a father to protect his unborn child and his duty as a Belmont to protect Walachia people from a great evil. So kind and courageous man, a true Belmont for sure.
One of the most surprising series on Netflix. When it first came out I was thinking this should be fun, but by the end it was one of my favorite shows ever.
That is exactly how Attack on Titan was for me! I was bored. Gave it a try and was blown away! Same feeling with this show and few other animes on netflix as well such as DOTA
I like how trevor doesn't just magically bullshit his way into defeating death through "the power of friendship", his attacks landed but did no damage even when he let out a furry of attacks which only blinded death (I believe death screaming is akin to a person getting ant bites: it stings but ultimately doesn't do much). It's only through the God Killer Dagger that he was able to kill him.
He actually did damage him though,it just took a while. Just like a classic videogame boss fight, he was unfazed by the first two attacks but the 6th and 7th he felt damage which is why he was screaming and getting frustrated, then hit him with a desperation attack to get the battle back in his favor and slow Trevor's momentum. Yes Trevor needed the dagger at the end but it was his skill and prior damage that even got him in position to use the dagger in the first place.
@@chadohunayo9721 nah he was definitely doing damage, which is why inmediately after that hit death staright up says that he is going to kill everyone he loves trevor managed to injure it and he hates it
This scene displays a total, 100% understanding of the source material, the love and care for the franchise by those who made it. Unlike some other Netflix adaptations that seem to do everything in their hands to fuck up the property and do the total opposite.
@@JesusDoBem666 I felt the 4 sisters arc was a very forced attempt at "representation". Like the writers just tacked that on so Netflix wouldn't bother them and let them finish their story. Like checking a box but in a good way. "Yeah they are lesbians whatever, now back to Trevor...". I liked Lenore though, but that might be the masochist in me talking 😅 .. I liked her story with Hector and how it gets resolved.
What? No. God no. The fact alone that Dracula got his happy ending with his wife sticks a knife in the entire plot of the series. The Belmonts AND Sypha being at odds with the church rather than agents of and allies to it? The fact in general that there was zero positive features of the church in the series flies in the face of the series. Hell, Grant DaNasty never appeared because Warren Ellis thought he was a fucking pirate. Ellis is on record saying he never played the games, he read a wikipedia article about it when he got the job. I enjoyed the hell out of this show, but it is absolutely not an example of love and care for the franchise.
My favorite part of this is just how MILDLY offended Death is at being called a thing. He's not "how dare you, you insolent wretch!?" He's more "C'mon man, that ain't cool."
_"It's time to give this place _*_back_*_ to people who know how to build things! You and me? We're just killers out of history! It's time for us to go!"_ I actually got a manly tear.
I think it is good mate. Death is handled exceptionally well. Trevor had an entire arc up to this point. And what's more, the Dialog between them is a sincere reflection of the experience they're going through. I think this is an exceptional amount of love for a series tbh.
The elegant disrispect, the swager lever 100k, the heroism, the love this dude had for his girl. In my book Trevor Belmont stands on top of the hill of what a hero should be.
Some people are like "oh if Death is dead then does that make everyone immortal?" But the thing is that this creature, this *thing*, doesn't actually cause people to die. He is something that feeds on the death of other things. That's why he wanted to respect Dracula and his wife into the body. He wanted more food.
To add to the argument. He never truly dies on the series. More like he explodes just for him to regenerate later on. Kinda like majin boo but without the gumball e
@@MathasiaJ they always implied but that thing already came back even after fighting leon, Soma, AND PROBABLY Julius. So never consider death gone for good. 😩
In the games he isn't "this thing". Death already explained why he would never die in Lament of innocence. He stated that as long as the dark lord existed and the source of the power was intact he will never be dying and will keep coming back. Death's concept will exist for all, he only favours Dracula because Dracula is the king of darkness and hence he is Death's master
People always talk about how powerful Sypha and Alucard are, but never recognize Trevor for being essentially a normal human fighting and winning through his skill, knowledge, and experience. He always had some of my favorite fights because of that, too.
Trevor started out as a loner cynical drunk who didn't give two fucks about humanity, he ended up as a badass warrior willing to give his life for it, a man worthy of the name Belmont, and now he gets to enjoy with his family, you earned it, Trevor Belmont.
His Spirit was broken, but then eventually he found the will to fight once more. you see it wasn't losing the ancestral family home that broke him it was losing faith in humanity but now he has finally regained what he had lost, and now can finally live up to the name his household once held pride In as a Belmont.
“It’s time to give this place back to people who build things. You and I are just killers of history. It’s time for us to go” This is one of my favorite quotes in the entire season. He managed to understand his limitations and see that the others would be more suited to help others in the trials ahead. His character development is amazing
@@turma8eac and I'm somewhat convinced that it isn't his last appearance and journey. After all, Castlevania is a large universe and this Trevor is a really charismatic persona.
Am I the only one who gets goosebumps every time Belmont says “let’s give this one last go…shall we?” With the music adding to the that declaration he made to death makes it that much more impactful
The idea that death calls living things "fuckers" is quite possibly the funniest and most literal thing an entity of death could call us. By his account we probably are "fuckers" living things produce more living things so. Makes sense
That makes a lot of sense. Didn't see it the literal way until you mentioned it. Also, he must be angry that the "fuckers" keep reproducing causing him to remain in his boring job for thousands of years.
@@aconfusedlacroix3965 is actually right in their own way Trevor : tell the embodiment of death and tell him it ain’t shit ´, Lelouch : fuck u god and do as I say and erase my parents out of existence Eren : destiny to do the cycle again fuck u my destiny is my own
I’ve rewatched this more times than I can actually count. This whole show is a masterpiece of animation and story writing. Down to the incredibly subtle but very real foreshadowing of Varney being Death since his appearance. I truly love this show.
Trevor is inspiring AF. I instantly connected with this man from the get go. I watched it in Spanish. He had this tough guy yet dry tired worn out macho voice. Made everything better. When the tough gets going Trevor gets tougher and seeing him towards the end just worn down beat down and him barely hanging on his pain and having to face death was just tough as nails. Proper man right there. They went they hell and back what a happy ending
@@estrellanicolas7975 right???! But the Spanish is Mexican Spanish so it’s clear AF!!! Yet packing so much personality specially Syfa! Love how tired and groggy yet gruff Trevor Belmont sounds and how serio yet determined Allucard sounds, Carmellia she packs so much power in Spanish gosh I hate her guts hahaha
I like how Death fights exactly like you'd expect from a retro final boss. He doesn't move around, he doesn't dodge Trevor's blows, he just towers in the background and launches big, flashy, mostly telegraphed moves with his hands and his scythe. You could easily see this scene in a video game.
Just got done rewatching this whole series. God damn i still can not get over how masterfully done the animations, the voice acting, EVERYTHING is in this.
Death’s part in the story of this series makes you realize all those times you encounter him in games isn’t because he serves Dracula, but to ensure Dracula isn’t slain so he could have his endless food supply from Dracula’s killing sprees.
Well he does serve Dracula tho. In the games he is kind of a "drinking buddy" of sorts to Drac. In Symphony of the night he literally calls Drac his lord. But yeah the whole making sure he isn't dead makes perfect sense.
@@Dantelor He showed when interacting with the Russian vampire guy who was trying to roast the hell out of him and talking down to him(and he didnt react at all) that he is perfectly comfortable acting submissive or letting people think they are better than him when hes pursuing an objective. So he could have just been doing thay in the games as well.
@@jaydenshepard7928 Considering how different the show really is, i think is a bit farfetched to make a connection like that. In the original canon he was intented to be truly second in command, with Dracula having the rule over chaos and such.
If you go back to Leon vs Dracula, You would know that Death serves those who own the crimson stone, but Netflix Castlevania made it sounds like Death was using Dracula and not serving him.
The contentment in his face at 0:18 is beautiful and heartbreaking. He trusts Alucard and Sypha to get down safely and to make sure the baby is okay. So he can turn to his end, knowing those he loves the most are safe
They should not be nerfed, they are more powerful than Belmont, let's go to logic, the Belmont are powerful and I do not deny it, but the characters like Alucard, and Sypha are too strong to put a Belmont at their level ...
@@brayanalvarez1225 Sypha should have no mana .....and all spells on cooldowns..... And Balmont is "normal human"....And he fkd "Death"....Just a fkn boring plot Armor
@@brayanalvarez1225 Agreed for Alucard but Sypha I don’t know . Don’t remember what was her deal in season 1 (did she said her ranks in magic or was she just a disciple of castlevania-esque Christianism?) but she wasn’t as powerful as this . She looked fuckin avatar mode in the last 4 episodes of the season
This is a video game boss fight. Floating platforms Dodge and smash weapon use Last-minute consecutive critical hits This series just showed us how BADASS it would be to have a game-based boss fight transition properly into another form of media. God bless the makers of this show.
No matter what animation or character there will always be a call back to Guts from Berserk, left arm sags and right eye closed. It has created an echo to all badass characters going ham on their enemy.
The animation is just insane! I wanna personally thank the animators of this show for giving us such an experience. And also the guy who thought that Death calling us ''fuckers" would be cool. It was.
Words wouldn't be able to describe how much hype i was for this entire last episode, when they played the bloody tears theme had me dying, this last fight with death and the whole dialogue simply killed me, it was too much for me. I wish i could experience that again.
But he's not literally death. He was just given the moniker. They establish that his isn't the literal concept of death just a parasite who feeds on souls. Kinda like that the elder God from Legacy of Kain. It tried to disguised itself as a godly being but it ended up just being a parasite leeching off the wheel of fate.
@@thecockneyterritory4869 Yea I know but like I said they establish that Death and the actual concept of death are two different entities. They are not the same.
I like how this scene uses in-game damage rules. Each hit from Trevor barely does anything, yet Death is a little more affected each time. When Trevor gets hit it's like, "yeah I got about 3 or 4 of those in me before I'm dead."
The original health bars had around 16 points of damage from empty to full. A certain amount of bars would be depleted based on how much damage was taken. Example: Player [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Enemy [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
@@retro3188 death usually hit for 3 to 4, depending on the game. In cv3, it was 4 so you took 4 hits and you were out. It took 1 hit of your whip to take 1 hp. Subs took 2. Math checks out.
One thing that really gets me about this scene is Trevor's Just trying to give his unborn child and Sypha a better future. To ensure that the world will be a better place..... to ensure that his child never has to fear the dark.
Unfortunately there’s gonna be more dark for our boy Richter to tear threw I literally cannot wait man he’s gonna be badass afff he’s gonna be like his father and more
@@Bonez767 If you are referencing Trevor, Richter is not his son since there will be a 200 year or soo jump in time and other significant Belmonts like Simon and Jules will be skiped, but yes there's gonna be more dark for Richter.
@@Vraelf Richter is the next child coming I’m almost positive that’s their son not their great great grandchild I mean the Netflix show is different compared to the games the only things they get from the games are like Easter Eggs and what not I don’t think they care to even establish Simon and them because they would’ve just confirmed Simon to be the child I’m sure the next time this show pops up Dracula’s wife will probably be killed again or there might be a new villain but Richter will be of old enough to start his adventure and I bet Trevor will have been dead and Sypha will be old or even dead to
Death: “And who’s going to make me go? You? With your little bit of string in your hand?” *Trevor remembering the God Killing knife in his clothes* : “Probably not.”
I love how the first time death swings his arm Trevor jumps through his fingers, so the second time he does it he closes his fist. And it works because of that. Such a little detail that secretly adds so much.
With a tremendous effort , and series of Nat 20s, the unstoppable homeless man pummels death to the point death ralizes he’s met a man who embodies the words “f**k it”
I will be beyond dead before i stop getting goosebumps fron this scene. The condescending dialogue from death and the "i might die but i will take you with me" from trevor is wonderful "with your string"... "probably not"
Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but when Trevor tells Death "You don't create anything, you don't live. All you do is eat and hide," that's remarkably similar to Trevor's existence at the start of the series. All he did was eat, drink, and hide from the world, doing his best to avoid his family's legacy. That speech is his condemnation of the life he previously lived as much as it is a condemnation of Death. Also, note that, back in Season 1, he said dying had never scared him. Back then, he didn't fear death because he felt his life was of no value. Now, he does not fear death because there are things in his life so precious that he will gladly lay down his life to protect them, and that his life had overwhelming value. Long story short, Trevor Belmont's character arc has been a masterclass in writing over these 4 seasons.
Reminds me of the concept of Victor Belmont (not the one from Lords of Shadow), who was a character from a cancelled Castlevania game who was planned to have rejected his lineage as a vampire hunter.
Death’s boss-level comebacks to Belmont are unforgettable, “Are dictating your fucking obituary to me , Belmont?” “Are you going to make go with your bit of string in your hand?”
My personal favorite was when he said something along the lines of “I’m going to eat your soul, shit it out, and smother your fucking girlfriend with it.”
I don't get why people say Death needed some epic deep voice or some kind of filter to make him more intimidating. It's so much better hearing him talk normal and going _I'm so fucking done with everything today_
I love how Belmont calls out the similarities to himself and Death in his speech, but it's also great to see him finally step into the role of the hero and be what he was always meant to be rather than run and hide away from it.
From the first time I watched this to every time I re-watch it, I get a sense of all those moments in the games we played or watched being played right on that culmination. If you were the one playing, or just that excited for whomever made it that far, all the memories and anticipation of winning or losing it all. Those moments were one-of-kind and gone forever, but every once in a while, we get a reminder.
I think they got Death perfect, an entity that’s been around since the dawn of time, was about to have Dracula give him trillions of souls… much like a 25 year veteran detective who was about to collect his pension but then found out he has to work another five years. It’s exactly how I’d imagine death talking and sounding like… pissed off, zero fucks to give, and slightly irritated by his enemies.
Especially when they're actually fighting back when having almost NO chance and yet finding the way to prevail. This fight speaks volumes metaphorically
@@bossviper2833 at first I thought “this isn’t how death should sound” but then I thought it’s been around since the dawn of human existence, and like vampires, the longer they live the more they adapt to the environment around them. One living in the Roman Empire would act much differently thousands of years later in todays environment. I think it’s the same with Death, and it was obviously very disappointed that Dracula wasn’t coming back to wage war on the humans. It’s not what expected, but he kinda grew on me lol.
The castlevania anime is criminally underrated imo. This fight was absolutely fucking beautiful, amazing, impactful, intense and the stakes were higher than ever. This show is truly a fucking god tier hidden gem.
@@BradTheDead idk man, i watch a lot of anime news youtubers and stuff and i also follow a lot of anime pages and none of them talk about the castlevania anime, i also never see anyone talk about it anywhere else, imo it is pretty underrated
The entire time I first watched this scene I just remembered this quote from Season 1, episode 3; “I am Trevor Belmont, of house Belmont, and dying has never frightened me.”
@@Humekadon12 he’s an evil manipulative spirit who counseled the likes of Dracula and presumably others into conflicts solely to feed on their souls. I’m not so sure that Death would be the most pleasant of individuals considering he hung around degenerates who liked to slaughter people his whole existence.
I like how Death's attacks are all this big, sweeping, telegraphed swipes- Because, you know, he's the final boss. I wonder how many times Trevor had to do this fight to learn his patterns.
i just finished this anime a few minutes ago, and the ending definitely did get me teary eyed. that really just proves how good, thought out, and well made this anime is, especially since it's based off of a video game as well.
0:19 That subtle change in Trevor's face. That look of fondness as he sees her falling back to safety, knowing she's alive and okay. Then the subtle change in his facial expression to that of a grim determination and accepting he's almost surely going to die in this fight. It's sometimes the fine details like this that really make a scene shine, but most just remember the epic animated fight scenes.
My girl is safe, time to go to work. It's actually common in war/battle. When people have loved ones to fight for but they know/believe those loved ones are safe they fight harder to keep them that way.
@@justinc882 Never fight a man with his loved ones in view, they will hit harder and feel less pain. They will willingly injure themselves to take you out all for their sake.
A millenium old tale. David vs Goliath, Roland vs Dragon. Trevor Belmont vs Death. There will be countless more, recited, after we are dust, all carrying the same message. "Stand"
@@haystackbill6187 It wasn't so much to nerf him (I mean, look at him; he's still insanely strong) but to make it actually plausible that he can be killed (I mean; how would one kill an embodiment of death?), and I honestly like the change.
@@matthewmuir8884 That's the keyword here..."embodiment". Obviously it's not Death's true form, it's a manifestation in the real world. Dracula is literally the embodiment of Chaos itself and the entity opposite to God, yet he still gets "killed" by the Belmonts, because Dracula isn't Chaos' true form. As for how one could kill death...easy. If you're a sufficiently powerful reality warping entity that ranks beyond even death as a base concept you can just write death as a concept out of existence, just like the Beyonder did to Mistress Death in Marvel's second Secret Wars which, ofc, meant that nothing throughout the omniverse(every multiverse, megaverse, dimension, universe, etc.) could ever die.
@@matthewmuir8884 And yes, even Netflixvania's Death here pales before the one in the games. But he certainly got shafted way less hard than Dracula did, Netflixvania's Dracula is weak asf.
Absolutely loved everything about this fight: how retro of a boss battle death is, the music (my goodness it was so fucking 🔥🔥), Trevor announcing himself to Death, the fight itself and the aftermath. They beautifully did such a great job!!! If they did Castlevania like this, I cannot wait for them to get their hands on Devil May Cry!!
He knew. He knew he would likely die before the fight even began. He knew "success" wasn't a reasonable expectation. Yet, he engaged. When you're sitting at home, wondering how to become more than your current station, watch this.
This battle was so intense. Even more knowing that they had no rest since the beginning of the season. They kept fighting non stop; Trevor having the most difficulties to fight. And yet here he is, knowing he might never see his lover again (and his family) giving his best to save the world. What a man.
the world was never in any danger. if Death says hes been around since the dawn of life on Earth, then that means he could exist for millenia more and the earth will be just fine.
I like how death says "fuckers", too often do they make 'ancient' beings in shows far too classy, like they wouldn't adapt to social norms and culture.
Not sure if this was intended, but I don’t see this simply as Trevor fighting against Death. This is Trevor fighting against his old self, who he used to be, and his old depression. He’s ready to overcome it and rid himself of it, knowing only he can make the choice to overcome it at the end of the day, but knows he may not win as it is a very hard battle to fight. Still, he gives it one last go, and manages to come out on top and live in a peaceful world with the people he saved and who saved him in return, finally becoming a person who can create and build things.
They capture so well being a Threaded Cane build in Bloodborne. Every boss fight pretty much ends up you all over the place, thinking you look cool, just to get swatted like a fly at the end. Awesome!
