Trevor Noah : INDIA feels like HOME ❤️🏠

My friend asked me what I meant when I got back from India and said it felt like home. I told him, you know what, there were parts of Delhi and Bengaluru that just reminded me of my home country South Africa, where we have a big Indian population and influence. It's crazy, but it just felt familiar, like a place where I belong. That's why I said it felt like home.

I know what you mean Trevor. I was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada when I was a child. 30 plus years later I traveled to India. The first time it was Calcutta. Parts of the drive from the airport to where we'll be staying reminded me of Jamaica. I didn't fell like a tourist and didn't need to point my finger and comment on everything. Then I went back 7 years later and I was in Kerala. We went for a walk one day through a small neighborhood and we passed the homes on a small trail and it had fruit trees that I knew from Jamaica. I was amazed. It was calm and serene walking amongst the fruit trees hanging over the fences from peoples homes. 2013 was the last time I went and I still feel like returning. I've been to other places, but even with all the issues, I as a Black woman, often think about returning.

It's a development country thing. That's why we can relate so much with each other, because we grew up in similar environments. Street food, the little corner shops , the colonial buildings, the climate, the kids running around everywhere between the blogs... We are all Connected

@@_sachinbhaleraoto my experience, West Indians are rude and violent whereas the region from where I am, Northeast, the people here are very different. Soft spoken, hospitable and nature loving. West Indians exploit the resources of the country whereas we North-Easterns protect and conserve it. Yes, our region lacks a bit of infrastructural development, but nevertheless we are rich, not in terms of money but nature. Hope the mainland India also starts to care about nature, cause staying connected with nature make people more peaceful and calm. West and North Indians lack these qualities.

Something that needs to be noted here is that Indian people have a way of making other places feel like home either by using their native language, or making local food, or maintaining culture and religion through marriage, or literally naming local places after places in India. That is one of the major reasons why so many people here in the comments also share a feeling of familiarity. A lot of them commenting are from countries where there are lots of Indians and where Indian culture is directly or indirectly influential.
