As an African American, I've witnessed bad, white cops mistreat myself or my father, and great, white cops who should be models for all the others. The problem is that the US doesn't need incremental change, it needs drastic action now and I fear it will never happen. I was born in the US but moved to Canada 8 years ago. Canada's not perfect, but it's a veritable paradise when you compare the two countries. How can a country that prides itself on being number one have such stark, racial (and economic) inequality and no universal healthcare in 2020? It boggles the mind.

Because every single one of his stand-up acts, every episode he's done for The Daily Show, both as a correspondent and host, has had something to do with politics, racism, or race relations in America, in South Africa, everywhere he's been. It may not permeate all of his bits, but it's addressed somewhere.

Anarchy happens when society isnt working for everyone and those groups rise up. Telling those people to return to order when that status quo is so unjust, humans will rise up. Change at times is messy, sometimes it must be. Looking at the surface and not the pain underneath is closed minded. I will never fully understand that experience but I understand pain anger and sorrow as a human being. And I stand with you

xMelanie Anarchy is only the opposite of archa, i.e. domination. An anarchist is therefore anyone who rebels against rule, such as at a demonstration. Likewise, anyone who is against fascists is an anti-fascist. And in a country that once defeated the Nazis, there should be many menshisks who are against fascism. Basically all but the fascists. It is interesting to see how straight fascist and racist demagogues define the content of words. And it is sad to see how unreflective this propaganda finds its way into colloquial language.

Thank you, Trevor Noah ~ I knew at some point you would speak about these terrible abuses, and speak about them thoughtfully and with passion and perspective. One thing that occurs to me is that for Black people in America (and, indeed, in Canada, not to mention the Indigenous Peoples of both nations), the perception of a social contract being "signed" by all parties to our societies is quite different. For the contract was written by the powerful, and only extended to the less powerful when the demands grew loud and angry. A few that come to mind are the fights for sufferage; civil rights protests in the 1960s and since; and the ongoing protests of Indigenous Peoples. And what I've seen is that this perceived social contract often goes only one way. And that way involves maintaining the social contract when it benefits the powerful, and breaking it when it does not.

For that matter, I have seen video clips of Black people harassed while trimming a hedge, washing a car, driving, sitting in the lounge of a student building, and it is sickening. The thing about the Amy Cooper debacle is that even though she didn't get anyone killed, she knew exactly what she was doing; she knew that misrepresenting the situation could possibly subject a fellow human to violence or death, just because he had the gall to call her out on her bullshit. And it wasn't because she loves her dog so much - that much is clear. Never before has a racist asshole been so brazen. I think anyone saying she's unstable or whatever is completely missing the truth that she's perfectly sane, perfectly capable of traversing life problem-free; she's just a racist piece of crap. Like human excrement. AND in her various 'apologies' she never called Christian by his name. "That man," is what she said. It just shows she genuinely doesn't care. She only cares that she's now paying for the disgusting thing she did.

The aspect that she thought would affect the police response wasn't the misrepresentation: He is an African-American man! "The police lost their jobs" and theres no catharsis. Absolutley. I watched a John Oliver where police lose their jobs after an incident, a shooting or excessive violence complaint, and usually they quit, b/c they can just go one county or city over and start as a police officer there in no time at all. Alot of time the case or investigation is dropped against the officer, and it doesn't even come up when applying for the next job. There's very little lost when an officer loses his job. All of those officers need to be put in jail, no bail, in the general population and then they can feel the fear the average person feels when they've been targeted.

The same way as when a priest does some shitty things in a town, people get angry and the church just send him to another town, far away, to the other end of the country. Due to social media it became harder for them to do it but it happened all the times before, that's why people were defensive when a new priest came to town and why they tried to get in contact with people from where the priest came from to get what kind of person was he.

Doing my research on systematic racism, I learned that a lot of Black people are forced into looking and acting as 'white' as possible, which includes styling your hair in unnatural ways, or just shaving it off completely because its 'different'. I love your natural hair! Its beautiful, and all black people should be proud of their hair. Couldn't have said this better myself. It's more than one incident or issues that has people fed up its a collective of problems injustices division etc..... It has been amazing to see people from all over the world stand in solidarity on these issues! .....I am proud that we here in the UK are one of many countries ......We have our own issues similar but not to the same degree as Afro-Americans. So we feel and understand frustrations and anger. ....

That isn't pride, that's just relief that your not the worst. Cases like Amy Cooper happen in the UK all the time and the wealth disparity is just as bad.
@charlieboy6315
@charlieboy6315 4 года назад
@@stephencowling8404 In the UK, the richest 1% owns 20% of the nation's wealth. Not good, but in the US that figure is 42.5%. So no, wealth disparity is nowhere near as bad in the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) as in the US - the 2nd biggest wealth gap is the Netherlands on 28%. Additionally here you don't have diabetics having to ration their insulin because they can't afford the proper dosage! The US is systemically corrupt to the core - politicians are openly bought and sold by multi-national corporations, anti-democratic practices like gerrymandering are commonplace, and this is just accepted by the masses as 'the cost of doing business'. In the UK, any politician who engaged in such practices would find themselves promptly indicted. inequality.org/facts/global-inequality/#us-wealth-concentration

@@crystalpritchard5065 Saw that too and it was a blunt and wonderful story. My family history was deleted because my family married into a local tribe in the 1790's and early 1800's right through to the 1860s. My son at 6 asked to protest for protection of a local sacred site recently of his own accord. We have indigenous blood in our family but we did not wish to be seen any different so our kids, 22+13+6+5 have never had it fully explained untill lately. They were pulled to the local culture and they grew a natural respect for the local tribes, the elders and their dream time stories and naturally felt the need to defend all of it. They have grown up to harbor their own opinions and hanging around my immigrant and tribal elder friends had given them the opinion, as the 6y old says "we all suffer but how much is decided by everyone else". If kids are our future we might just have a chance.

Mad Mick Same here in England. Although racism still exists, the worst hit groups in my experience has been immigrants and Muslims that get most of the abuse over here -which is not any better. Racism in America though, fucking hell. It’s absolutely horrible. England is extremely far from perfect, between Chavs and the racist groups like British first and EDL.. but America’s financial and racial inequality amongst many, many, many other things. My heart goes out to all Americans who have been effected by the racism and corruption in their country, heartbreaking. The fact the police in my country don’t carry weapons and don’t kill people 99.9% of the time really helps stop the killing of innocent people like you see in America. America needs change.
