I got to chat with Trey at some length after a show while the main act was performing, and he couldn't have been more gracious patiently answering all my stupid questions. His skill level is obviously otherworldly, but he also comports himself in a very humble, approachable way. He has it all going on.
I watched Roy Clark do this song live when I was a kid. He said an alternate name for the song is "Look Out Below". He then played Orange Blossom Special on a fiddle so fast that smoke was rolling off the bow! Literal smoke.🤯
I have always been a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. I dedicated to learn so much of his music and style. When I found Tony Rice, it opened a whole new world for me and I love it.
My guitar teacher when I was a teen, told me if I wanted to learn how to play like Jimmy, I need to unlearn everything, including how to tune the guitar properly. 😂
He played a solo show last night for maybe 100 people in the tiny little G.A.R. hall here in Ohio between Nitty Gritty Dirt Band gigs and OMG, Trey solo was amazing. Picking, singing.. all top, top notch. And I got to meet one of my guitar hero's last night! THANKS TREY! You destroyed that room!
I"m 71 and the explanation about Mrs. Carter is right on. That is what I heard early in the 50s and adopted that running rhythm for my own accompaniment. Adding in the other styles as you go make for a full arsenal to fill in for any song. :-) Thanks!!
Funny he doesn’t mention Norman Blake at all considering he wrote Church Street Blues and I think that arrangement of Under the Double Eagle is based on the Blake one.
So jealous of talent like Trey's. His picking and voice are awesome. Also watching Wyatt Ellis up and coming on mandolin. Just great talent coming up. Wish I could play but I suck. These guys are great.
I park my pinky finger just like him snd everyone tells me not to...now by golly im gonna show them this!! Ive got a Willie Nelson hole started only back between the bridge and puck guard.
TREY HENSLEY is the man!! So underrated! Billy Strings can’t tote TH’s guitar case! Seen Trey in ATL with Rob Ickes and Tony Emmanuel few years ago… definitely a top performance of my life!
Billy and Trey are both amazing- as is Molly Tuttle. They each different ways of playing for sure, but I don't think we need to crown one as the king over the others. Let's just be thankful that they are there for us to experience.
life long devoted to learning metal guitar. Recently went back to my roots and started listening to country and blue grass cause I want to learn it. Quickly find out mastering metal really does not help at all with this style. Realize I'm basically "new" all over, only difference Is I can actually play the guitar, just not this style. Spend the next 10 years mastering this so I can flatpick like John 5, Roy Clark and Billy Effin' Strings. I'm gonna master flat picking. For myself.
Incredible playing and singing! I have a technique question. I can see you resting on your right pinky, but when you’re really picking fast, do you lightly rest your palm/heal on the bridge too? Thanks!
Phenomenal guitar player .You don’t have to have a dreadnaught to pick bluegrass. Nice to see someone thinking outside the box and doing his own thing.
True, to be nitpick, it´s an Austrian/hungarian tune because the "double eagle" (anb eagle with two heads) is the heraldic symbol of the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy, hence the weird name:)
