I am also a christian who have visited African countries where christians are prosecuted and killed daily. A Professor at mit University controversial research found Americans watched more foreign films up until the 1970's. In a controversial unpublished paper, he found that in San Francisco in 1974, for example half the movies in the movie theaters were French & Italian. Today less than 10% of the movies in the movie theaters in San Francisco are foreign. Americans were more Cosmopolitan back then? Apparently, it's controversial to say this. His paper goes on to say with the rise of cable television in the 1980's Americans began to watch less foreign films, and became more insular. With Showtime and HBO in the 1990's, and other premium cable channels the trend accelerated, and finally in the infamous 21st Century with the rise of Hulu and Netflix and HBOMAX, Americans sadly watched even less foreign films. The independent theatres in America that use to show foreign films all closed by the wayside with the rise of cable television. Cable television put our theatres that showed European films out of business. How provincial. It's bad enough being born in the colonies. The Clay Theatre in San Francisco, for example was the last Independent theater, in San Francisco that showed foreign films exclusively. Many people who moved to San Francisco since the covid pandemic are unaware of this. The Professor goes onto say that after the great plague in the 14th Century we lost a lot of knowledge too and civilization went backwards. .
