Tri-ang Princess & Hornby Dublo Duchess of Montrose with layout update and a quick look at the new return loop. Plus a look through Mecccano toys catalogue. All dates are approximate Music Source/Royalty-free Apple loops/Looperman.com
Great memories, I bought a Duchess of Montrose in the late 1950's early 60's for £3/17/6d having saved up Christmas and birthday present monies. It was great enjoyment racing it round my 6' x 4' double track layout.
Oscar you continue to capture the spirit of the Dublo and the Triang model railway systems perfectly. You asked the question regarding the year of the Toys of Quality catalogue. Typically Meccano would print a code on the back page of all literature. At 21:10 note the code is 13/758/450. the middle digits would indicate July of 1958 which is confirmed by publication of the initial batch of Super detail goods stock, the L30 Bo-Bo diesel electric plus the colour light signals.
Hi Oscar, Beautiful Duchess and that Princess is the loco that keeps on giving, lovely smooth runner for its age. The motor on the Duchess is something else. Take care, Gordon
Lovely to see these older models still being enjoyed as intended. Even with the shrinking and warping, those old Tri-Ang models are still beautiful things on the layout. Thank you for taking us on your journey.
Good morning thanks again for taking the time to watch these really are lovely items to run on the rails, I think the shrinking and warping is all part of collecting, owning and occasional running these older items. Take care. Oscar
Thanks Oscar ,another great video ,with such a lot of memories especially the princess & coaches of Christmas past. The catalogues you show always reminds me of the wish list me & brother use to have .
Lovely look at two superb locos today. I was thrilled by the smooth running of the Duchess and to see it operating over a reverse loop was excellent. David.
That loop as you said really had added an extra interest in running to the layout. Well done. Great to see the early coaches and Princess out love the loco's and Dublo's Montrose is a fav' too
Good morning Paul, first loop I've had on a layout where I could turn the whole train its going to be fun. Great to hear you like Duchess of Montrose this ones seen a lot of action but still plenty of life in it they are just built so well. Take care. Oscar
It's great to see that loop in action, lots of fun turning things around. I enjoyed seeing that catalogue, nice to see the 'O' gauge items. Take care, all the best to you
Good morning Roy thanks again brother enjoy the video, definitely been a bit chilly up here, thankfully we seem to have escaped the snow.(so far!) Take care. Oscar
I had an Hornby o Gauge Clockwork train set one year for Christmas. It was the tank engine and 3 Suburban Non Corridor Coaches. The bu8ldings using plaster of Paris which were available in the 79/s 80/s was Builder plus if my memory serves me correctly. The Dinky Building sets look like Bayko.
Hi thanks for watching and the info terrific to hear you had Hornby O one year for Christmas what's the mean very exciting. Mr Snooze is channel he's just put up yesterday a video with some items from his collection including Clockwork Hornby O gauge I've put a link below. Take care. Evening Oscar, such an enjoyable video. The new railway is gradually growing and becoming more interesting offering potentially more trains on the rails at same time. The great era’e are coming back, so great to these classics from back in the year, out again and running. Many thanks again Marc
Good morning Pauline, I was unsure at first about the pick ups with the angles in them but as they work Ive left them how they are. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar. I believe the catalog is from 1958. I googled "Meccano catalog MP/CB/3 13/758/450" [which are the numbers visible at 21:08]. You can find the link quite easily there and see the missing portion of your cover page. Cheers! Bee
Another great episode and what a super catalogue. I had some Meccano around the same time it was the 70's style blue and yellow range, I've got up to set number 8 but never got to my dream set number 10 that came in the wooden drawer casing. I do remember the army set at the time, there was also a construction site themed set as well.
Good morning definitely some lovely items in that catalogue. Great to hear you had some Meccano in the past, maybe you will get your dream No 10, could be a tricky one to get down the chimney... amazing looking stuff Meccano, even as individual pieces. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar, great video once again, looking forward to seeing the layout develop. I had a Linka set in the late 70s. Maybe I was a bit too young but I found it a bit fiddly, the pieces, once cast, being easily damaged and hard to glue together to maintain any strength. The moulds seem to be quite sought after judging by eBay prices! I know a chap who has a 3 rail Beyer Garrett made out of two Dublo 8fs it is a really impressive model.
Hi Anthony, the pieces never did fit together quite as expected, like you mentioned they were often broken bits, very frustrating, an item I got for Christmas one year, my enthusiasm for it didn't last very long... The Garrett sounds terrific. Take care. Oscar
Hi from Glasgow Good morning Oscar I have a friend in the Model Rail club who has two of the old Models a good service and they will Run great Thanks for the video 📹
Good morning Cameron thanks again, I think that was always part of ownership of these items right from the beginning a little care and attention now and then and they just keep going and develops an understanding of how things work along the way. Taker care. Oscar
Hi Oscar Enjoyed today's video I do like nostalgic model railways it runs so well. Almost as good as today's, and sometimes they leaves a bit to be desired. Regards paul osman
Good morning Paul thanks again glad you enjoyed that, these locomotives really do run very nicely and have a great feel when in use on the rails. Oscar
Never seen a three rail version of the train tester before. I have the two rail version. You can get 3 rail track which looks like the two rail track only with the extra rail in the middle. So you don't have to buy the Hornby Dublo track, if anyone does want to collect the locomotives. The Duchess is a beautiful model, much better than anything else we have seen on these new layouts. I have a body of the model, which came in a box of bits. Sadly the cab roof was very bent.
Good morning Graham I've not come across contemporary 3-rail track, sounds like a very interesting option. The rolling road is the standard Hornby one, I made a modification to it which is completely removable back in the first lockdown when I went over my collection of three rail models and gave them a service as I had so much time on my hands. I've just added a length of balsa wood paint it black with a rail length (contemporary Hornby nickel) trimmed off at one end with some of its sleepers in place stuck to the ball wood which sits neatly between the movable rollers, the other end of the rail with its sleepers removed it's just held in place at the power feed end of the rolling road with a balsa-wood spacer. All unnecessary really as a crocodile clip would've done the job, but then there was a lot of free time back then! Thanks again take care. Oscar
Good morning Michael great to hear you're enjoying seeing these items, I think we'll just call the railway under development for now as I have no real goals to meet with dublo or the Tri-ang, I just want to enjoy what works and have some fun with it. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Interesting to note how in this era, the Hornby locos are far more sophisticated than the Tri-ang ones. The Princess doesn't even attempt to replicate the prototype's valve gear whereas the Duchess has a full set. But times were going to change and Tri-ang would master plastic moulding to great effect; twenty years later Hornby was long gone and its products seem crude by comparison with Tri-ang (or more accurately, Tri-ang Hornby) products of the seventies and eighties..
Hi Gavin hope you're all well, It definitely wiped me out completely for a couple of days and the cough leading to speechlessness has taken me an age to get rid of, and was quite comical at times... Thanks again take care. Oscar
Morning Mark thanks for the info, I remember getting this for Christmas one year, built the odd bits and pieces, bet that 20 story tower sounded great when it came down... Take care. Oscar
@@oscarpaisleynot really my mum wasn’t pleased I didn’t take account of the weight on the bottom floors hehe looked nice but cracks appeared on the lower panels 😮
Hi thank you for watching control unit came from morleycontrollers.com they make a number of variations for different requirements the one's I have are the Vanguard. Oscar
The Triang Trans Continental range approximating US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African and two French style models. Sold well for Triang even in the UK from the mid fifties until the mid sixties. The non British items parked on the layout seen after 6:07 were some of the highest selling Transcontinental or TC items.
A great range of items which looked very colourful compared to the British items modelled by Triang at the time, very well described by @john8892 in the attached comment. Thanks for watching take care. Oscar
Just out of interest, looks like you have used 2nd rad curves on the dublo lines. watching with interest and still finding it hard to believe you took your T H layout down. still I guess it is the reason we remain enthused.
