Wonderful to see some of the nitty gritty work that goes into building such a large and complex layout with all the vagaries of vintage trackwork. It's certainly a Labour of love isn't it Oscar?

Good morning Antony, thanks for watching it's a great deal of fun bring this lot together. All the best. Oscar

It's good to see the layout in an "at work" condition and so many different projects underway. It will all come together quickly once the trackwork is screwed down. David.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Afternoon David "at work" is one way to describe it, although "will it work" may be more suitable, either way great fun. I haven't had as much time as I'd like with it since Christmas but I find time away from it is quite beneficial, it makes thinking through some of the options much clearer when you don't have it in front of you. Hopefully as the basic circuits become more usable I'll be able to run a few more things that are currently hiding in cardboard boxes... Take care. Oscar

Thanks Oscar, that is really helpful to see inside the point motors, and your suggestions on switching, I've just bought more Series 3, including several points, one with a motor, and a few quarter and eight straights, your power continuity method is excellent, I will take that on board, thanks again.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Good morning Paul thanks for watching, great to hear you found a video interesting. Sounds like you've bought quite a few excellent items, those quarter and eighth straights are hard to come by, it's good to have a few to give you more options. Take care. Oscar

Good morning Mr Snooze these Dublo points are beautifully made items and not to be confused with contemporary streamlined points, amazing items if you were lucky enough to have them back when Hornby Dublo introduce them, great fun. Take care. Oscar

Afternoon Roy thank You again for watching, I keep looking at it and thinking not much is going on and then look back over it and quite a bit has changed, lots of little things. It feels as though I've had to go back a bit over the next couple of videos just so I can get the track work to develop. All the best. Oscar

Excellent and very informative video. I would never have thought of using the copper plant tags for the points. In fact, I didn't even know they existed. I have since sourced them and am excited to try them on the box full of Super 4 points I need to re-furbish! Actually, I think those little strips of copper are going to be useful for all sorts of things, thanks for the brilliant idea. The track work is really coming on. 😊

Good morning Pauline thank you again for taking the time to watch great to hear you found information interesting. I came across these in the local discount/ thrift type store on the High Street before the COVID-19/ lockdowns happened. I saw them and thought they'll be useful so I bought a pack, they have been very useful for a number of things, sadly the store has never had them back in stock but they are available online at most gardening suppliers, the idea is you would scribe the name of the plant on them and the impression doesn't wash away in the rain. I really should use them at the allotment but they have never made it there... Take care. Oscar
@PaulinesPastimes
@PaulinesPastimes Год назад
@@oscarpaisley I found them at a major hardware chain (Bunnings) today and the pack even had lengths of copper wire with them, which I didn't expect. I am sure they will have lots of uses. Better suited to the train set I think. 😊

Hello Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your video about your update on your track progress. The video was a delight to watch, it's amazing how well the different types of track still work after all these years. It just goes to show how good British manufacturing was in those days. I now have a Triang Hornby booking hall, the one with the yellow canopy, but I don't have the box for it yet. Your layout is getting better every time I see it Oscar, you're doing a great job, well done. Well I am going to make a cup of tea now, so until the next video, stay safe Oscar. 🙂👍🚂

Great video as always Oscar, thanks for sharing your points’ upgrade tricks and expansive plans for the two different track formats. I agree with you about the stiffness of the HD Super Detail wheels compared to the earlier 3 rail coaches which run quite smoothly on their metal axles.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Afternoon Jim glad you found it interesting, the super detail coaches are definitely quiet on the move but the metal wheels do move a lot freer. I think there is an element of the plastic axle ends developing a groove (more friction) where they lie in the wheel/axel hangers, this has probably increased the friction over the years irrespective of oiling or not. Possibly there were moref free running fresh from the factory. I do like the sound of a metal wheels on the tin plate track! Thanks again take care. Oscar

With the Triang Mk.2 couplings unhooking, by themselves, I've discovered that using my home made magnetic uncoupling stick tool inadvertently temporarily magnetises the hooks. This renders them unable to bounce up when running.

Hi Oscar, Great video and the layout is taking on a bit of character albeit a fair workload. Good tip with the copper plant labels, Series 3 points were never very substantial I thought. On your temporary switchboard do the toggle switches return to the off position after operating ? Again good work on the elevated section walls and these point motors are a blast from the past but still working well. 👍 Regards, Gordon
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Good morning Gordon thanks again for taking the time to watch, layout definitely taken on a bit more interest now, I do like electrically operated point! The toggle switches are sprung and come back to the centre/off and are hooked up to the CDU built into the Morley Vanguard unit. Take care. Oscar
@coyi51

I found series three points were always hit & miss. In most cases they were fine when the train went straight, but going left or right they used to juddered or stop on the plastic frog. My dad made some adjustments using some copper which improve the electrical flow and all but solved the problem. Had to replace a couple as trains would not run through them. Layout coming along nicely.

Hi Oscar,, dont worry abouttn the mess mate i think out of all the train layouts i have seen on youtube we are all the same. I have the same mess at my fixit tray as i sit in front of the telly in my lounge room fixing testing cleaning and oiling the trains that i aquire and i know exactly where everthing is so dont worry too much mate. I got a couple of them little R.192 one eights track pieces and there is a difference in mine to yours as my ones are like a really dark brown in colour and are still very plyable and nit hard but they have no R. number on them , but thay do have made in Australia and New Zealand on them. Also the point motors are they hooked up to the transformer to the uncontrolled AC or the DC side of the transformer ? I also love how the transcontinental loco's look and run with there knurled wheels ,, they sound great. Yet another great video there, thankyou. Cheers from John in Australia
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Afternoon John thanks again for taking the time I'm very aware of the chaos developing around the railway, it's spread outside of the room now as I've had to clear space to work underneath the board, this creep into other areas of the household is not that popular with my wife and son. The points on the bench are working from 16AC on the Clipper. The Hornby Dublo point work hooked up on the railway is out of the Morley controller which has a built-in CDU unit. I'm unsure of the electrics at play inside this unit or where it takes it to feed from AC or DC but it seems to be quite powerful. I've attached a link to the technical details of the Morley "Vanguard" unit for you to have a glance at. The track work you mention does sound intriguing with it's brown slightly pliable base. All the best. Oscar morleycontrollers.com/shopexd.asp?id=30&bc=no

A few electrical questions. When a loco traverses the 3 rail point's, the centre pickup must touch the running rail, is the open point blade electricly disconnected from the running rail's. And secondly the double return loop would present no electrical problems with the 3 rail system, but could it work with the 2 rail system, or would it need too many insulated rail joints, switches and wiring etc to make it impractical.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Год назад
Hi the switch rail/blads (moving parts) in the three rail points all mounted on an installation board and I only live when touching an outside Rail, the extension of these rails which do not move and run up to the cast alloy part are also insulated everything and remain so at all times, it's a very clever design. As you point out this 3 rails system makes a return loop very straight forward. I have to admit I haven't looked into the practicalities of replicating this type of turning circle in two Rail. It had been my intention to try and have a return loop for the two rail as I have never had one on the railway before, but it looks like I've run out of space of this time around. Hope that answers the question, take care. Oscar
