Just shaved my taint. Increased my FTP and saved 32 watts!! I’m so trendy and awesome

I'm glad that worked for you ;) I hope it's not too uncomfortable on the saddle over the coming days...!? But for that watt saving, maybe it's worth it.

By far your video is one of the best tri bike vs road bike videos. The content structure, information, video quality, speaking clarity and cadence, everything is great. I'm a beginner entering the triathlon game. Your video's a major help! Thank you so much!

Unlike a dog, a bike fit isn't for life. Get one done every season or two as your body and goals change.

Hey Phil, I completed my first full Ironman last year in Nice, France, following your plan, using my entry-level road bike (Shimano 105, mechanical brakes). This year, I upgraded to a second-hand aero bike (not a tri-bike), and the electronic shifting, disc brakes, and better tires have already made a big difference. However, I’m facing the issue you described: it's almost impossible to add aerobars due to the geometry of my aero bike. Do you have any suggestions on how to approach this? for example, you know of any suppliers that offer flat bar designs compatible with aero bikes? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for letting me know and well done on your IRONMAN. Great news on the new bike too. 😍 This is a very common problem. One thing to do would be to find a local bike fitter as they would be able to give some specific advice on adjusting the bike to help you feel comfortable with aerobars on your road bike - they may even be able to help with the next problem... The other problem is finding the aero bars to fit. This depends on the make of your handlebars. I know Giant make a clip on that fits their Propel aerobike for example. Hopefully a google of "clip on aerobars for [insert brand] handlebars" might bring up something useful for you?

For those who have both a triathlon bike and a road bike, which do you find yourself using more often and why?

If you only just play Olympic distance , road bike is the best for you .

For a draft legal race that is definitely true. 👍🏻 Some athletes may still see a speed advantage over the olympic distance with a triathlon bike and feel more comfortable running. It's worth testing to see which works for you. 🙏🏻

I raced on a road bike with clip-on bars for my first two years, was a great way to gradually graduate to a tri bike. Slightly slower, but critical time to grow the right flexibility to actually take advantage of the new fit.

Good thinking. That sounds like the right way to go at first. And also gives you to time to develop bike skills.
