Few pointer for you. Swim>bike 1. Cut the bottom of the wetsuit off just to bellow the calf so it comes off your legs easier. 2. Put helmet and race belt on the handlebars so you don’t have to keep bending down 3. Tape nutrition to bike so 1 less thing you have to grab 4. Elastic band your shoes so they are flat. Easier to put your feet into them when jumping on the bike. Bike>run 1. Put glasses/hat on while running out of transition. You can do this with other things like nutrition/watch and any other gear you may use. No need to stand still doing it, might as well start running.
Triathlons have multiple distances. Everything from supersprint which takes half an hour if you are fast, to Ironmans which take up to 9-14 hours. In an Ironman you can afford 30 seconds to put on socks, in a short distance race you don't have the time. You also definatly dont need socks for just 30 mins of competition
Yea, word to EVERYONE watching. Take 15 seconds and put on your socks. The blisters you’ll have otherwise will likely slow you down significantly more than the short time it takes to put them on. Not wearing socks is insane to me.
Can you put nutrition on the bike instead of in your pocket? that would save time. Also, put hat/glasses on while running. So shoes on first, hat/sunglasses in hand being put on while running out of transition.
Better to practice in a less touristy area. Tape your nutrition to your bike or use a race belt with a pouch. Put your helmet on your bike so you don’t have to bend down 10 times to get ready. I like to use a slightly bigger towel so I can wipe my feet off before putting on my shoes. It sucks to bike with a shoe full of sand.
No one is aloud in the transition area during a race except the athletes and staff. This is a simulation out near the beach and I’m positive as soon as he set off he turned right around to come back.
This is a tri suit - which yes, has padding for cycling but it's much thinner than the padding in cycling shorts. Tri suits dry really quickly so after a few minutes on the bike, your bum will be dry :)
Estoy seguro que las gafas y la gorra se las puede colocar mientras inicia la carrera y no sacrificar el no colocarse medias para correr 🤷🏻♂️ saludos desde Colombia 🇨🇴
The number belt should be worn under the wet suit and the nutrition can either be already in the tri-suit (it's in a waterproof wrapper) or already tapped to the bike.
If you don’t care about the extra 30-60 secs it takes to put them on, go for it. There’s nothing against it. But you’ll find most people bike and run without them. I felt the same way you did and wore socks for my first tri. But once I noticed I was the only one wearing them, I went home and practiced without them. Turned out it is not as bad as you’d think. I got a pair of bike and running shoes 1/2 size smaller to wear without socks for a few training runs and race day because I like my shoes on tight and snuggled. What I do that costs me a little time but I can’t live without is wiping my feet before putting on the bike shoes. So I stand on a towel and wipe while I put on my helmet, then put on the bike shoes, and go. I’ve tried putting on my shoes while already clipped on the bike, but it means I’ll put them on with sand and stuff stuck to my feet and that’s uncomfortable. Plus I can’t quite get it right and save time over putting them on in the transition area. I’m faster if I have them on already that way I get in the bike and start pedaling 100% immediately vs rolling slowly for ever while I finagle my feet into the shoes full of sand and pebbles. I use elastic laces already tied on to my ideal level of tightness. I look for running shoes with a really smooth interior. I find any shoes with seams near the toe box to be uncomfortable without socks.
You can wear socks if you want to. Once you give it a shot, you’ll find biking and running without socks is not as crazy as it sounds. I wear socks all the time except for a couple of bike rides and runs before a triathlon to make sure all is good to go. Some companies make tri specific running shoes. I’ve never liked them. I find a normal pair of running shoes will work so long as they don’t have any seams near the toe box…I feel like my nails snag on them otherwise, so I choose shoes with a really smooth interior. It helps if they have a good tab in the front and back to help you put them on quickly since you already have elastic laces on. I like my bike and running shoes tight and snuggled, so I buy a pair of each 1/2 size smaller for race day and one in normal size to wear with socks pretty much all of the other times. Actually have had the same bike shoes for years. The only thing I keep changing are the running shoes. I also like to wipe my feet really well before I put on the bike shoes, so I don’t do the whole jump on the bike with the shoes already clipped on. I’ve tried it and found I’m not any faster than if I put them on in the transition area, so I stand on a towel, wipe real quick while I put on my helmet, shoes on and I’m out.
@alaefarmestatesllc Naw, most (not all) carbon wheels, especially those from reputable companies are just fine. The old issues of delaminating and catastrophic collapses are mostly solved these days. Still, if I'm doing a lot of descending then I'd rather have disc over rim brakes but otherwise the wheels are fine. I've had some going on 10+ years with regular use and they're still fine.
It sounds weird, right? I never put on shoes without socks on, but for triathlons, you fin the benefit doesn’t outweigh the amount of time they take to put on during transition. I never see people wear socks during a race unless they really, really don’t care about time. It takes a little getting used to, but it’s not as bad as you’d think. I just make sure my bike and shoes are 1/2 size smaller than normal because I like my shoes on tight and snuggled.
@@michaellaviani719 as his shoes are only for biking i think its a non sock needed shoe (socks are build in) BUT if you want to save a big amount of time you can also go on in the running segment with other shoes but no socks
