just 2 weeks before his passing,i was trying to get the tabs for shady grove from al and he kindly gave it as a gift, thank you so much al,for the tabs, the music, and for inspiring all of us with your kindness, may god bless your gentle soul🪷🙏
Saw him, his wife and daughter perform in Fredericksburg in a small venue with perfect acoustics. it was one of the greatest performances I will ever witness. it was after they had completed Midsummer Moon. The joy imbedded in their interaction while playing was indescribable. Best ever use of a didgeridoo. One of the greatest guitarists, ever. I am deeply saddened by his passing. Love to his family.
That sounds wonderful, I really wish I could have seen him and Amy play live. He really was the best in my opinion. Always tasteful and with so much feeling. Thanks for your comment!
awesome playing and thanks for sharing Al's music. I too hope guitar players continue to be inspired and filled with the joy that the instrument brings us all!!!
A fitting tribute to my Auld friend. Al would be proud of you. Thank you. That’s a wonderful Lowden. I have a few myself. What gauge strings did you elect to use?
Beautiful tunes composed by Al Petteway, my favorite is the first one. Acoustic highlights albums were a great foundation for the acoustic guitar. R.I.P master Petteway. Love this tribute.
I have meant to contact Al to get the tab for the tune on this demo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JIXxUBVDBso.html for a while now. I guess it is too late now. To know Al is no longer with us making music breaks my heart...but he must be entertaining angels in heaven with his beautiful music now. Rest in peace, Al.
It breaks my heart too. I really miss him. I'm not sure if this will help, but sometimes when I didn't have any tabs for his songs I would slow down the video in the RU-vid player and learn by watching his fingers. It's definitely a slower approach but it can work. Thanks
Excellent playing. I would see Al Petteway every year at the Swannanoa Gathering where he was guitar week coordinator until he passed that role to another instructor. I attend the Gathering as a songwriter, but in 2022, I attended a guitar class taught by Al. He was an amazing player & a genuinely sweet, caring person. You have done right by him here.
Hi Roscoe, I'm sure you have done something Al is happy with as well as those who loved him so deeply are. I only recently learned of his departure, I spent a long time trying to learn his beautiful music and I'm grateful to him for the art he left and to you as a fantastic interpreter of his music
I just found this video with the shocking news, I'm speechless. Last year I contacted him to buy the "Mountain Guitar" album digital book (since I'm outside the U.S.) and he sent me the pdf before I even payed for it. He was very kind and I was at the beginning of my acoustic fingerstyle/Appalachian music journey. I learned a lot through that tab songbook. I have a few videos of his songs on my channel too, was even thinking of sending a few links to him, I guess it's too late now. Played live "A Certain Sadness" from the Slide album last week, without even knowing of Al's passing. Truly heartbreaking. By the way, this is an wonderful tribute video, your playing is great. Thanks!
He really was kind, he did a similar thing for me when I asked about tabs for”Desert Dance.” I asked to buy it but he just sent it to me without payment. Miss him a lot. And thank you for your kind words. Just checked out your cover of Craggy Pinnacle too, amazing work!
Nice Tribute of a great guitarist I grew up listening to him. Nice playing indeed. I love those open string and the manner in which you play like him. Thank you
Al was an inspiration, a great teacher, a tremendous talent , a master of alternative tunings. I use to love his sessions on Dream guitars. For me It will never be the same again.
Sir Al was my favorite. He was kind to me and worked with me even though I was a broken classical guitarist. When he told me he was ill my heart sank, no one was more kind than Al. I appreciate his music has been used in film and he won a Grammy. But most of all I appreciate who he was as person. Al will be missed terribly - I still can't believe he has passed..
I only knew Al through his online presence but he had a really big impact on my guitar playing and he was a great role model. My guitar hero forever. Thank you for your kind comment
So sorry to read this morning about Al;S passing away,, I enjoyed his dvd way back homespun i learned from his dvd set,, inspired me too.. rest in peace Al Petteway
