Iv just seen this now I'm so happy Peter and bill are buried beside each other they were great pals now they'll be together forever RIP you both gave us so many great laughs you'll never be forgotten from fans in ireland xx
I love the episode where he's driving a van and offers the lads a lift, which they refuse, then he drives the van into a field and crashes into some hay bales!
Other classic scenes of Eli was when he ends up inside the house next door to Sid's café, or where upon leaving a shop walks into a conservatory loaded on the back of a trailer. It's a mystery how he ever found his way home.
Eli was so funny, we always saw hime for just a few moments. It's great to see a whole 5 minutes here. I do know of more clips also. Notably there was the scene where he gets new glasses, and we see him come out of the optician. Also (not sure if same episode) we see him walk and stop on the lift on the back of a truck, which then raises, and then Eli walks directly off onto an adjacent car bonet (I think) and then directly into a skip.
If you ever make a compilation in tribute to Wally Batty I'd be delighted, he was one of my favourites. Especially the Nora-Wally-Motorbike and sidecar scenes!
That is my favourite scene of Eli (although it was great whenever he did appear), he's just come out of the opticians and mistaking a dustcart for a bus, he walks on holding on to the rail...just brilliant stuff. Seeing him a couple of times in one particular episode was a rare treat, he's wearing an advertising board for Auntie Wainwright and he ends up falling down a man hole and then wanders onto an explosion site, just moments before they detonise the fuse... just hilarious. So sad Danny that you are no longer with us, THANKYOU for the years of laughter, may you rest in peace, I hope and pray you found those pearly gates alright 😂😂 God Love You Danny, you were a true gem!!
I hear that Danny O'Dea lived in a retirement home in Hartshead, no great distance from where I was brought up in Mirfield and that when he was wanted in Holmfirth, they sent a taxi for him. Worth every penny of the fare!
Eli had only few lines in each episode, pretty much like Trigger in Fools and Horses but he was a cracking actor, a really underrated actor, these are the best actors and characters in the series. Howard / Pearl Ivy / Nora Batty / Wally Eli / Marina Foggy Compo / Clegg / Seymour TrueLove Auntie Wainright / Smiler In that order, but depending on episodes, as far as I am concerned they are all great actors Not to forget the brilliant writer Roy Clarke
Auntie Wainright was also a comical character - her fingers would always start wriggling when she smelt money, and when she said "I felt a shiver-like somebody walked over my purse!"
