In this week’s report, I am focusing on the life of a Christian sporting legend and a spiritual hero of mine Eric Liddell, known as the flying Scotsman. Eric famously won Gold for Britain in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris even though this was not his favoured event. In the build, up to the games he came under heavy public and media scrutiny for not running in the heats for 100 meters because it fell on a Sunday. He put God before King and Country by keeping Sunday as the Lord’s day of rest.
Eric Liddell inspirational story together with his main British rival for gold in the 100 meters’ event in Paris, Harold Abrahams the Jewish undergraduate from Cambridge University who faced ant-Semitic discrimination was bought to the big screen in the Oscar winning film Chariots of Fire.
