Love Joe, he cuts through the BS. His honesty is a breath of fresh air in this day and age. More people need to be brave and say what's right. So many should be in. Personally I can't believe Free isn't. Great interview.

I always enjoy Joe's intelligent and considered insight into all things guitar. He is spot on here - John Mayall was a true pioneer and it is criminal that he is rarely mentioned in Hall of Fame conversations. John paved the way for all of them and he provided the platform for them to flourish. A true great and truly great loss.

Thank you for speaking on John's behalf. I knew him for a time and recall how humble he was about his talents. You keep on being you and John will be proud. 🥰

Yep.... Keep me updated/Posted. ✨I am sadden this Teacher/ Great Icon has past on. If I am not mistaken, was he not a mentor to Joe Bonamassa's,"This Train", Along with influencing the Greg Allman Band.❓ He certainly will be missed idealistically. 🎼🎶🎵🙏👼

The so-called Hall of Fame isn't fit to tie the bootlaces of half the artists not invited in. Those artists aren't diminished one iota by non inclusion by those smug tuxedos.

When John Mayall isn't in the R&R HOF, and Whitney Houston is... It needs to change its name.

Nicky Hopkins played for Quicksilver Messenger at some point. Think how many great contributions he made to classic rock albums in the 1960s and 1970s. I doubt that he is in the R'n'R Hall of Fame.

The offhanded dismissal of the Yardbirds as a 'pop' group is misleading. Yes, 'For Your Love' was a pop tune the band agreed to do after several 'blues' singles failed to atttract attention. But the band remained true to its roots while also exploring what became psychedelia with 'Shapes of Things', 'Over Under Sideways Down', 'Happenings Ten Year Time Ago' and their 'Yardbirds' album (aka Roger the Engineer). They and the Who were arguably the two most progressive bands of the 1965/1966 period leading up to the breakout of Cream, Hendrix and the British Blues Boom led primarily by John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Clapton quitting the Yardbirds was the best thing that happened to them, as it resulted in his union with Mayall while simultaneously making way for Jeff Beck (after Jimmy Page declined and recommended his friend Beck instead), whose ferocious inventiveness soon found them the source of inspiration for everyone from the Beatles (McCartney's guitar solo on 'Taxman' is him attempting to be Jeff Beck) to Aerosmith, with Led Zeppelin essentially being the Yardbirds Mk II. So, hardly just a 'pop' group. Joe's comment about the need for the Rock Hall of Fame needing to get their priorities sorted is quite right. How many of the inductees are NOT rock? Far too many. Even Dolly Parton called them out on that. I mean, she is in but Quicksilver Messenger Service, Moby Grape and Free and John Mayall are not?! At the end of the day, and peoples' ego aside, really, it is all just a waste of time. But if it insists on existing it could at least live up to its promise - Rock Hall of Fame.

The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is a mausoleum. What self-respecting musician would want to be included in there? Blues is a live music-best not to confine it to a museum.
