I'm in a rehab. Been off methadone for 13 days. Been out of the mix of everything else since October. Layne and his story helps me push thru this bs with my head down. None of my friends got to grow old. I'd like to give it a shot. RIP Layne. And thanks for this, Eddie.
Eddie and Jerry Cantrell, some of the last living legends. Its so sad to see some of the most prominent 90's rockstars die. Dimebag, Vinnie, Chris, Kurt. RIP
Not a big Pearl Jam fan but no one can argue just how real Eddie Vedder is. He has a heart that you can feel in his writing and the way he expresses his lyrics. I admire him for his honesty. If I song writer cannot be real he is not worth the paper he is writing on.
Must have been tough being a guy like Eddie during the 90's, Being around all these super talents that lived the way they did and died the way they did. Eddie survived grunge, it's pretty amazing.
Eddie knew Layne before all the fans did, enough said. His loss is felt on a different level than ours is. We loved him as a singer/songwriter and he was in our hearts because he was in our homes always. Eddie had him also in his embrace.. as a friend, compatriot and fellow band member from Seattle. They played together, recorded together and did a tribute album together for ANOTHER lead singer who died early own before either found true fame. His loss is unknown to us. Just honor that.
Tim Echols I agree. I can't stop listening to them. I'm beginning in recovery, something about laynes voice just gives me hope. Hope all goes well man, keep on going strong.
MadSeason amazing album. I lost a friend a week ago and she just graduated from high school. I kid you not, sweetest girl I’ve ever met. we were even gonna hang out. stay strong man and keep these tunes playing 🤘🏻
I’ve been listening to Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Mad Season, and Chris Cornell’s solo work a lot lately, and I thought it was really helping me with a bad time in my life. The more I listen though, the worse it gets. On top of everything now, I’m so, so sad that I missed all of this, that I’ll never see Layne or Chris or Andy on stage, that they all met such terrible fates. I wish I’d been born twenty years earlier than I was and been here in Seattle from the beginning of the grunge scene, I wish I’d had the chance to meet them.
I'm 31 and missed the grunge era, so I've been catching up for the past 3yrs and it's breaking my heart. it says a lot about those we lost, that people are still listening to their music and mourning them over a decade later. so many beautiful souls 💔 also if you haven't yet, you should check out blind melon. shannon hoon reminds me of andy wood. we lost him 10/21/95.
ren I love Blind Melon! Shannon’s the best, I’d put him in the same tier with Chris Cornell and Layne Staley easily. First rate, incomparable, and irreplaceable. ❤️
I was 2 years old when Andy died. I was a baby in Ohio, how could I have known what was happening on the other side of the country? Not being able to meet Andy and now Chris is really what devastates me the most. I always had this idea that I would meet Chris and ask him nothing but questions about Andy. You can talk about Layne, Scott, Shannon, losing Andy is the biggest loss. Andy was supposed to be Freddie Mercury for Generation X and instead they got Kurt Cobain. Such a shame.
Give the music a rest if it is bringing you down and reconnect in a few months or years. Music can bring you up and down... So be careful if you only like one genre. X
I was there for it. It was everything you imagine. Exhilarating, passionate, elevating, but also devastating. We were given legitimate heroes and then they were almost immediately taken away, over and over again. 90s music was an explosion followed by a bonfire. By '95 it was over. But what a ride. Just love the music - that's what they wanted you to have.
13 years later; AIC found some prick whose voice was similar. They tried to monetize it as a tribute for Layne, who weighed less than 90lbs as his mother held his corpse and said goodbye, days after he died alone. They used him after he was dead, and probably had just one arm left. It's not okay. Vetter is right.
The first time I heard this , my hairs stood up , I’m still in awe , Eddie , it’s very obvious how much you and the boys loved your brother x Incredibly beautiful
Not a big Part Jam fan but the words made me tear up. Whoever made this should have used the picture of Eddy V at Laynes' condo building standing by the words he wrote on the wall. "Layne Staley lives within".
@Ylimreh Back in the 90's people didn't take pictures of themselves everyday. It was different times. Many moments only live on through those who lived them because there was no recording of its occurrence.
swa bee - I was a teenager in the 90s and I often get jealous that young people today essentially have their entire youths documented in photos. I have precious few reminders of those carefree times.
Shit it still hurts all those years after.....I will never ever forget you Layne. Wouldn't have made it without you voice, lyrics and music. All the best from Denmark.
I'm crying, and I can't stop listening to this beautiful song.Rest in Peace,Layne Staley (and Mike Starr).Thank you for contributing so much to the world! We love you.
Agreed. I love Pearl Jam and AiC and never knew this song existed. Also never expected for this song to have really brought a tear to my eye. So raw and passionate; I would have killed to have been around in that era. Not going to lie, I saw the playlists on your channel and they're bloody amazing. A bit sad too, because I hardly know anyone in any of my circles that listens to such a sort of music, and I could talk or even sing of that music any time of day. I would kill to meet someone with such a diverse taste in music (Old school 90s rap is amazing; the fact that you listen to just music and sound instead of genres is great!).
Nearly 18 years later and we are all still so crushed. Rest in peace buddy sometimes when the drugs take hold too deeply there's only one way out... I'm glad you're finally free. You made your mark on this world and will never be forgotten
Great tribute to the greatest he's been such an inspiration for me through times i don't think I could have made it but then I would put on there unplugged album and drift away from the pain I was consumed in thanks layne
After Demri was gone, seems he gave up, some people close say Layne said he was feeling her spirit come around, near the end. Such a loss, a deep loss still felt. RIP
I lived in Seattle back in the day, and met layne, really nice guy got my guitar signed by him that guitar will be going to the grave with me!!! RIP layne....!!!!!
I don't give Eddie enough respect. Dude is an amazing human being. Even though I'm not a Pearl Jam fan, I do respect the love these guys have for each other. Such a beautiful song.
I didn't think it was possible to be so upset over someone who died before I was born, but here we are. I wish Layne knew how many people loved him and cherished him, I really don't think he realized just how amazing he was 💔
omg......I'm so proud right now. Go Pearl Jam........I'm 101% MAN but this has brought a tear to my eye. It goes to show you that the bands we listen to have connections with each other and have respect for one another.
Yes two very talented, beautiful people who impacted the lives of millions are both gone... Now we're left Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Chris(soundgarden). RIP Layne;thanks for sharing your beautiful gift with the world. I love you
Layne has soooo many songs written in his honor. Shows how special he was and how many lives he touched (and still is)....This and Layne by Black Label Society are two of my favorite songs. He’s still responsible for some of my favorite music, even if he didn’t write it!
The very first pic I saw of AIC had to have been around Christmas time 1990, it was the four of them on a sled and they all had Santa hats on with sunglasses , I always loved that picture for some reason and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm pretty sure it was around '90 on the Facelift tour and it was out of RIP magazine (I think?) I half to say Layne is one of the most Photogenic people ever to be photographed (body, face, eyes etc) I think of him daily. RIP Dime Mike Layne
Dear Layne, April 5th I light a candle for you, but it's everyday I think about you; I don't miss or love you more today than any other day. Your spirit always lives on, immortality through songs. We miss you...
12 fucking years after I bought this album... TWELVE YEARS and just now I come across this song at the end of Bee Girl. I wore this album out when it was released. Shame on me.
i was so depressed on thursday.... This song shouldn't even exist because you should still be with us Layne... i was 12 years old when i saw that MTV unplugged one night in '97, i recorded it and played it like every day, i wish you could only know that there's still so many people in the world who were touched by your voice and still care for you, RIP man.
Layne's death was such a tradgedy because he was so well respected and loved by so many. Everyone thought they could pull him out of it. Layne remains as an amazing talent and a testament to the power of addiction. Never escalate to heroin, it's too much.
I think that he was suffering from depression and the heroin was his escape from it. I wish that they never left him in isolation and that they treated his depression first, then he might have had a chance of surviving his drug addiction and be here today 😢
It hurts so so much, I feel a lump in my throat... Layne will never be forgotten because he lives in all of us ❤🕊🇦🇷 what a special is eddie for wrote this mastierpiece.
Sometimes you can't put words to feelings.. you just have to let it ride out like a wave and remeniance how it engulfs you from inside and be grateful for those stolen moments in which it brought instead the agony that would have lingered within your heart. Always close in thought.. RIP Layne.
I’m so glad this is a hidden track, I believe Layne would’ve wanted that way. He didn’t care for fame after he got it. 😞 but god bless Eddie for being kind to Laynes family when all the other big names at his memorial basically ignored them ❤️
You were gone before I was even born but I will always feel connected to you and your music. You will be forever missed Layne, and your legacy will always carry on🖤
WOW BEAUTIFUL. THANK YOU PEARL JAM FOR SUCH A TRIBUTE AND JUST 15 DAYS AFTER HIS DEATH.....HE LEFT A HOLE IN MANY OF OUR HEARTS BUT SINGS A SONG TO OUR SOULS
+Susan Staley-Simpson Eddie had a picture took with him standing in front of a building that had Layne Staley lives on spray painted on the side! I have to say that you would love it, but I can't remember where I seen it though! It was in a video tribute to Layne I'm pretty sure!
Funny how someone you have never met...or will ever can affect someone so profoundly. Aic is my bread. Seen me through really dark times but they are a constant comfort in a inconstant uncomfortable world. I am a gen x and miss the days...and so many of our artists from that time. Much love and positivity to all. I know layne is happy he is with demi
Enjoyed the video thanks for making it. I have had a long time love for Layne since I came in contact with AIC music when I was learning guitar. I felt attached to him spiritually because of my own dark side. My son looks exactly like Layne and is a heavy Metal singer/performer. I still feel Layne. He died the year my daughter was born. He loved his fans through his music and will always be with the ones who love him back. He destroyed himself but saved so many of us Miss you Layne......always.
man, i'm really impressed by this one, most tribute tracks come off forced and kinda lame to me but this is poetic and heartfelt to say the least.only Ed could've pulled one off this great.
Well done Eddie. Very Beautiful song...to make such a beautiful tribute song after only a day of finding out Layne's passing...very emotional, very raw.
@@TheLYagAmi Layne stayed away from everyone a lot after 1996, he'd always got knocks on his door from people checking up on him and try to get him into rehab. The only reason why they checked up on him when he died was because his bank account wasn't being used for 2 weeks
I'm only 18 and I've been into bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden for as long as I can remember. I tried listening to newer bands and I didn't like them that much (few exceptions). First time I heard about Alice in Chains was at a music festival near my town. This guy had a Sub Pop shirt and I asked him where did he get it. We ended up talking about music and after we got back home, he mailed me Mad Season. Layne was a great musician.
damn i got some serious chills from that song! My favorite singer paying tribute to another of the lost greats.. Powerful song. Some of the most beautiful music comes out of tragedy!
i'm only 16 i'll turn 17 in march but the first alice in chains song i heard was them bones and i never heard one without Layne until last year and though i never really knew him i'll still miss him R.I.P Layne and thanks for the good songs
You're implying the members of Pearl Jam don't care about Layne Staley, while commenting on a video of a song they wrote in his honor. Outstanding, gotta love the internet...
Twenty years on and I still remember beating my fists on my dashboard alone in my car scream-crying after hearing about this. I'd pass out from a speedball not too long after. I woke up. He didn't. The world lost a greater treasure than it kept. Using picks its victims the same as going over the top did at the Somme: random, impersonal, uncaring.
Definitely one of my favorite pearl jam songs! Its just so emotional and you feel exactly how eddie was feeling. So sad, but Layne's beautiful voice will be with us forever!
Layne.. it's so sad to remember this day. 10 years before, you left this world. I didn't know how bad you were..to the point you died. All my respects for you.. RIP Layne, im sure actually you are better in heaven, smiling... leaving all the pain behind. We all miss you :(, but at the same time im a little happy.... because you are no longer suffering... farewell layne :')
