Sylvain va nous manquer. Quand je l'ai découvert il y a 20 ans à Lausanne quand il est venu donner un masterclass, j'ai été foudroyé. Une recherche sonore, un touché, un groove, une liberté infinie, inarrivable, une inspiration énorme pour moi qui depuis n'a pas cessé d'être présente, une boussole dans ma carte géographique musicale. Sa disparition est pour moi comme celle d'un être cher qu'on ne s'attendait pas de perdre de sitôt. Paix à son âme
Thanks so much for this tribute, Denis. I saw Sylvain only once, around 20 years ago in a musical instrument shop in Reykjavík, Iceland, where he was promoting Godin guitars if I remember correctly. I remember mostly two things: (1) his playing was beyond next-level mastery, unique and totally blew my socks off; (2) he exuded positive vibes and charm and put everyone in a good mood. I had no hesitation in buying one of his CDs from him, which I still have and cherish.
I'm sad to hear this news! Such a wonderful guitarist, my life has been just that bit better and more interesting thanks to being able to listen to his playing. Me and countless others. The few people like him make me vicariously proud to be a human. I hold him in the highest regard.
Oh man, so sad! 😢 Sylvain defied the boundaries of the guitar. He had a truly unique voice. Don't know how many times I've listened to his albums with Bireli Lagrene. To me it's the absolute pinnacle of guitar improvisation. Absolutely impossibly free-flowing musical communication ❤ R.I.P. 😢
