Join Dan Mink, The Rhinestone Roper and Multiple Wild West World Champion, as he teaches The LIFT-ON AND POP-OFF Rope Tricks. In this Cowboy Lasso Trick, the Roper starts with a medium sized loop, throws it in the air and makes it come down around him or herself and immediately pops it back into the air to bring it down on the outside.

Howdy Dan, I've been working on this trick and it's progressing pretty well. Thanks again for being in our 100 years of Ropin' Fools video that Bart produced, we certainly appreciate your time and effort. Woody Foreman

Hi Woody, I'm glad that the lift-on is working for you. The pop- off can be a very reliable trick but the lift-on always takes concentration, at-least for me. If I can be a help don't hesitate to ask. Dan

I'm commenting before I watch this whole video I can do this trick but I'm always inconsistent with it. But I can throw it up like a lift on and step out of it almost every single time.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. The slow motion is appreciated. The one version that I still can't figure out is what I think you were calling the yo-yo and what you were doing at the end. Can you do a video on that? Every time I try, and I've been trying for years, I might be get one or one and a half times . I was really never told what you're supposed to do to bounce it and have the loop stay the same size.

Hi Mark, yes it's the yo-yo or body juggle. That's a great idea for a video.

You make it look so easy. How long have you been doing trick roping? When you first started how often and how long did you practice? Did you focus on one trick or multiples? thank you for your videos and advice.

Hi Jeff, I started practicing in the 80s. In the 90s I quit practicing law and started really practicing ropes. When I'm performing, I don't practice much. When I'm not performing, I have always tried to hit the gym 3 or 4 times a week to practice for an hour. When I have a trick that I'm working on that doesn't touch the ground, I pick up a rope and practice a few minutes in the yard several times a day. I wasn't smart enough to ask questions like you do. So it took me a long time to over come all the bad habits that I fell into. Although, within 6 weeks of getting my first rope, I was doing the wedding ring and the Texas skip in the musical Oklahoma. I was not good, but I pulled it off, but I also learned bad habits in the process. On one hand, don't compare yourself to me or anyone. On the other hand, you are probably ahead of where I was at your stage. Also, don't believe everything you see. I make it look easy, but some of it still isn't, even for me. Remember, face book and RU-vid are used to give impressions. Some are true. Some are not. I've always used different lengths of rope. I've always practiced different tricks with each length at the same time. I had to wait on the more difficult tricks for my skill level to improve. Sometimes I didn't wait and I ended up doing a trick differently. I didn't know it was different because I didn't have anyone to ask. When I learned more, I had to bite the bullet and relearn. You really have to do this because you enjoy it. Putting time pressure on yourself to learn in a given time frame doesn't work. You have to strive to learn even when you don't know if you will ever use it. I don't think that you have these problems.
