I LOVE how you pick up your trash and even someone elses... I do that as well. Dad always taught us to leave it cleaner than you found it for the next guy! Excellent!!!
My dad taught me the same thing. Now its just a habit if I see something laying around i'll try to pick it up. Its also out of respect for the land owners too. They let people use that land and id hate to see that be cut off because of people not following the few rules they put out.
Great video! You are an ethical hunter and respect the laws. Those Game Wardens were polite and professional. Doing their jobs to get the people illegally hunting and fishing in your state. That sandwich sure looked good! Beautiful leaf changing colors! Thank you for posting.
@@dillpickle4558 If you lived in a rural area you may feel differently. I own quite a bit of land and have no issue with people hunting my land but I need to know them as my house is deep in the woods and I dont need some jack off shooting my kids or house. Laws were made for a reason.
There's a game warden up here that watches a section of the great lakes and one time he was talking about a nice trout I caught and we were confused as to where he was. Turns out he was about a mile and some away with high powered binoculars watching people fish.
They do this all over Alaska too. Hide in bushes to watch people fish. There is a lot of remote isolated fishing up there, which is why people are tempted to break the rules, but if you can get there, so can the officers.
@@littlegoobie Yeah, game wardens deserve a lot of respect for what they do, they are the people who maintain our natural resources by making sure people follow the rules. Without game wardens, I can safely say the sport wouldn't be what it is today.
@Yuck Foutube I'm sure he is aware of the risk, and is taking the best precautions he can. I really appreciate the job that the wardens do esp when you have a fair one.
I remember when I first started bird hunting we had ruffed grouse everywhere but they got wiped out, never even see them anymore. There are some places you can find pheasant and sometimes chukar but the quail and grouse are unfortunately a thing of the past, thanks for showing a good ethical hunt made me smile.
Awesome example of positive interaction with law-enforcment (while handling firearms!) I've never had a bad run in the conservation officers here in Ontario. Great stuff man!
@@MainelyOutDoors MAin has some of the most restrictive hunting laws on the books . Dont let him fool you. Come up to Wisconsin and ill show you crazy laws .
Well done my man, you provide a great service with your excellent example of outdoor stewardship and positive interaction with the wardens. Missing Maine, cheers from Hawaii.
Thanks for representing the sport in a positive light. It is always easier in the long run to do things the right and legal way. It also ensures future generations can enjoy the hunt.
Just a little cleaning tip. Place them on the ground back down step on the wings and pull legs up. Very easy. Give it a shot let me know what you think. Happy hunting.
Fuck that yo I did that once with a pheasant and the whole body split in half and I felt so bad like I disrespected its body I did not mean it I seen it on RU-vid so I tried and he ripped right in half it was nasty I still got all his meat and thighs
An older man, my neighbor, told me a funny story about Game Wardens! He said they'll never follow you on wet or snowy hunts, If you always have the souls of your boots sewed on backward, they'll never track you dowm!! LOLs!!!
Off subject but my grandpa always told me if I'm geting pulled over while drinking just jump out and chug it down on the side of the road. Then u just get drinking in public not DUI. Lol ps don't drink and drive
Great video, Being from California it's hard to believe you can hunt like this! Last year I was one very lucky dog. After years of trying I drew a moose tag. On our scouting days before the moose hunt started, we were bird hunting. It's very difficult getting use to having a firearm in the cab and driving the roads. Breaking every California law on the books. I was blessed with a 873 pound bull! Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, our laws are quite different when it comes to guns id say. Not having a firearm in the vehicle is a foreign thought to me hahha! Congrats on the tag draw and the bull for that matter! I've been putting in for 13 years and haven't pulled one yet. Maybe this year though.
A lot of comments expressing shock in how the laws in Maine are somehow different than their state... imagine that... laws are different in different states
I was thinking the same thing, then you see people arguing over it being illegal there just because it is where they live. I am jealous, we can't hunt from a road, or shoulder of a road in Texas. And the only turkey I have seen this spring are on the side of the roads. Of course this only applies to public roads, private ones are a different story but even then you had better be sure it's private and not listed as a county road that passes through a ranch. Many were passing through several ranches at one time so for access they got made county roads and remain such technically even when it all becomes one ranch. Buddy of mine owns a ranch like that. It's a county road all the way into his ranch but doesn't look like it. Know your states laws and ignore the internet know it alls.
Absolutely amazing.... I’m no lawyer but I have always been told that a game warden has more authority than any other officer... Just hard to believe you can find ppl that have such power without abusing it...
Well never had partridge but that looked so good Im not much in to killing thing but you eat what you kill Im good with that. Im just use to buying everything from the store. You Got a new Subscriber.
Thanks, for your sub! I really appreciate your understanding of how I go about getting my food. I never buy food that I can harvest in a responsible manner that just how I was raised and I would like to keep doing it this way as long as is sustainable.
This was my first video being introduced to this channel, and I have to say, it's very well made. You keep in down to earth and bring us along for the adventure. I'm a very new hunter, and just that small amount of information about soft wood, hard wood, and clover being a key element to the habitat of the ruffed grouse really makes the whole video for me. You made a new subscriber and I'm excited to be a part of the adventure and enjoyment of your videos. Thanks, and God bless.
Hey David thanks for joining! Really glad you enjoyed the videos. One more tip is to make sure there is some water source nearby. Also, the later in the season it is the better trail hunting will get. They are already going there for gravel for their crops and in the late fall as it gets colder the foliage in the woods will die sooner than it will in the road where the sun keeps it green for longer. Good luck next season. maybe next time ill try to add more tips.
@@Denzel_Watchington fly fishing an intersection of two creeks near caribou several years back. All the sudden one magically appeared from the bushes, I was convinced it was a bear for a second.
Awesome video, awesome hunt, and awesome ethics being displayed. I love seeing positive interactions with game wardens and hunters who are role models for others.
Thank you for appreciating the beauty of the bird ( ruffed grouse ) the first bird I ever shot, cleaned and ate way back in 1976. The ruffed grouse is the Pennsylvania state game bird. It was very tasty, halved, broiled with some butter and salt and pepper. Enjoy your lawfully shot and prepped meal. I can't wait to get back to Pennsylvania to go bird hunting again. I live in Nevada now and miss the color of the fall. You are a great sponsor of the sportsman Creed.
What an awesome video. I like your style and I immediately subscribed. Not only are you trying to do your best to follow all the laws out there, you get your own food and meat, but you also cleaned and cooked it on the spot. Awesome!
In Michigan you have to be 420 feet from your vehicle or road before you can discharge your firearm. Otherwise the bunny cops can take your gun, your vehicle, and everything in it. Give you a ticket and tell you to have a nice day. You can not have a firearm in your vehicle with ammunition within proximity of the firearm and your firearm has to be cased, that mean a case that is zippered shut and or a hard case with ALL the latches closed. You should feel very blessed to have such lenient hunting laws.
@@NB-ky5ol certainly isn't helping I'm sure. Most republicans though also don't care about the common man and what the common man cares about. They're all still in favor of 'common sense' gun laws etc. Here in Utah they do absolutely nothing to protect the rural industry and are more than happy to welcome the hoards of mormon californians moving to the cheap holy land. Building McMansions and displacing rural people. These 'conservatives' are not the libertarians of the rocky mountain west and it's changing things fast.
@no candy You can be communist and fascist at the same time, China and North Korea are good examples. A fascist is someone who says you should give up your rights so that the government can protect you.
Man after my own heart. Thanks for the cookout brother. Chicken only WISHES it tasted so good. I don’t hunt much anymore but when I DO it’s strictly for grouse. There’s nothing like it. Chicken is almost boring after you’ve had a bush chicken.
Little trick may help you when cleaning a grouse twist rip head off then put grouse on ground open wings stand on them pull legs firmly will gut and remove everything leave you with wings and the breast .
Now thats what I call Freshly made meal. Wow from field to table all in the same day. Looked delicious. Those birds are like who cares if he's got a gun, If he shoots he shoots.
*Millinocket Native here. And those bastards are always hiding in the bushes! LOL. Only fine I've ever gotten in my life was fishing without a licence for holding a pole for a few minutes while my friend fixed his fly rod in a canoe in Baxter park!*
Thanks for picking up the trash. I agree with other comments that the wardens are putting themselves in a dangerous position hiding in the bushes where people could shoot from the road. Hope they stay safe!
First time coming across your channel. Good video, great editing, very well put together! New subscriber here. Only feedback I'd say is that since the GoPro is a wide-angle lens we can't see things far away like the birds. Perhaps a wishlist item would be a barrel camera zoomed in so we could see the game and the shot. Look at a lot of Airsoft RU-vid channels such as BrainExploder for a lot of viewpoint Ideas. Keep up the good work!
Oh yeah, thats such a good idea! Thanks, I couldn't think of a solution for that other than having someone else film. I must say it will take some time for me to save up for something like that but definitely on the list. Great feed back keep it coming and thanks for the sub
@@MainelyOutDoors You're welcome! There's plenty of resources out there for action cameras. Current popular ones that aren't Gopros are the Mobius, runcam series, foxeer legend series, and firefly q6 to name a few. You can get an older model of these for cheaper. Due to the competition in the mini-action cam scene from drone racing, airsoft and more they're constantly improving. I'm sure there is a hunting channel out there that has a good on the fly setup. I don't know how these airsoft-inspired video gear would do on a real steel setup but it should work out for the most-part. Just doing about 20 minutes of research into the topic I'd suggest this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eLYQ1BxO9AQ.html This video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r3y6j0z2cC0.html and this seems to be a good hunting channel as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WUmNTz0vtwc.html But just typing in keywords such as this ru-vid.com?search_query=making+hunting+videos+solo Should bring up plenty of material to sift through. Good resources to look on are reddit and facebook groups. For FB try to find the biggest hunting discussion group and search for keywords, there's probably a hunting youtubers group similar to this airsoft youtubers group. facebook.com/groups/PewTubersAnonymous/ A final tip I'd suggest is always try to improve your editing, switch it up every once in a while, keep the bar high when it comes to compilation, audio quality and more. Keep up the videos! The way to get subscribers is to keep cranking them out, and sooner or later you'll have one that takes off like this one! As someone who's never hunted, is there a way to use almost every part of the bird somehow? Keep the feathers for decoration/sell them, make bird stew with the rest of the meat? I don't think too many hunters try to re-purpose many parts of the animals they hunt. I'll have to do some reading on the subject. P.S. the most affordable way I could think of to get another camera in the action/different shots would be to use one of these hat mounts for a cellphone.
David Hro you are that man!! Thank you so much for providing me with a jumping point, that saves me a lot of time. There were so many tips I had to screen shot it so I do loss them in the comments. I will absolutely be looking into it. Perhaps its time to put a rail on my shotgun hahaha. Never though id say that XD! Also, I guess I never realized that there were so many other viable options for action cameras. That is probably something I could swing in the near future to improve the shots of my fishing videos. Thanks again very glad you found this channel. I'll be trying to upload all I can but since I'm in grad school both my time and funds are limited. However, I can assure you that's not going to stop me from trying my best. Especially after all the support I've been getting lately, this is starting to become more than a hobby now.
@@MainelyOutDoors No problem! Here's the link I forgot to put in with my P.S. about the smartphone mount for hats. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bfYyiY6pT3w.html Action cameras like the ones I mentioned are also very affordable! Definitely cheaper than a go-pro most/all Under 150 bucks! Of course its just a hobby, but it could also be a side-hustle for beer money or more! Monetize videos with ads and such. I'd suggest always keeping a record of video ideas you can make, thinking of good titles, thumbnails etc to increase views. Perhaps set a goal of 1 video per month? Something more? Start a facebook page, instagram etc.
Sweet thanks. In the future feel free to email me with any tips at least for now its easier to keep track of. RU-vid doesn't have a good way for me to find comments that have replied back to me when theres so many. Also, yes my goal for the summer, once I pass my computational exams is to film two a week. Last summer I managed one a week but that was very taxing.
Great video. Great ethics. Great hunting. I loved watching you pick up the shells. Especially the one you caught. I hate when guys litter. Nice job bro 👍
thats how i always done it and i have done hundreds of ruffled grouse and quite a few blues and never had the legs come off i always pull the head off first that way all the gutts come out but i also use a .17 cal air rifle and shoot for the head or neck so i could see why legs might come off when using a shotgun or anything bigger really
I do the same i dont mind if legs pull off tho i keep them to eat aswell then u pull head off after that u can take hold of the skin on breasts an pull everything comes out that way aswell
Dude I LOVE your attitude towards guys just doing their job. Too much anti cop crap out there... Fantastic editing, music, clips, vid quality... I'm a follower for sure!
Exactly, just out doing their job. Honestly, I found it quite entertaining once I realized what was going on. You can see in the video it took me a bit to process what just happened hahaha. But it added something unexpected to my day and its kinda cool to get to share that. Thanks for the kind words I'll try to keep up the quality this spring!
@@MainelyOutDoors I thought it very cool how he remembers you when you were younger and knew you.. It definitely would have startled me as well... I'm not sure that was the safest place to be hiding though.
Yeah, that would have been years ago too when my dad would bring me up there. Hopefully, they had some kind of barrier to sit behind I'll have to ask if I ever see him again.
Oh ya, coercion, threats ,lies, and ,,, of course the initiation of force even deadly force sometimes all in the name of " law enforcement" who else's job description overrides everybody else's self ownership?
@@ftnwo7829 Definitely some bad apples out there. But a majority of them really want to do a good job and help people. And protect. The bad ones are giving all of em a bad name. Sucks.
It is easy here they are so plentiful that oftentimes they’ve never been hunted before so there not very skittish. In southern Maine I find I have to shoot them on the wing. But good luck keep at it!
@@MainelyOutDoors If people don't know the laws of their own state they shouldn't be out hunting or fishing. Knowing the laws/seasons is part of being a good wildlife conservationist, hunter and fisherman.
You can load your gun on the road but you have to be 250 feet from road to shoot. What he is doing is called road hunting in PA and is illegal but every state is different.
I think that last bird knew you already had your limit. Lol. Playing it safe by following the rules...that's awesome! Btw...loving your fishing videos too!
We aren't supposed to shoot from the road here either. With grouse you usually do though. Fish & Game sets out decoys for deer and elk, but I haven't heard of any stuffed grouse......yet.
