I poured him a red wine saying it was white and a white wine saying it was red. Could I trick him? -Wineking's instagram: jay.wineking #wineking #와인킹 #prank
I love you guys, thanks so much for all the amazing content you put out! I literally just finished watching all of your videos a few days ago - cannot wait to continue my wine adventure!
Peter spot on again!! I want to see him tricked in an episode hahahah. I’ve seen so many tasters tricked with this test. It would have been interesting to use a white besides a NZD Sauvignon Blanc… Great comment on the mental capacity it takes to taste thoughtfully.
Peter is astonishingly proficient at recognizing wine varieties blind, I feel like there's still a good chance that he'll get them all right - but yes you're right, it would be interesting and instructive to see him make a few mistakes for once
Hands down best duo in wine on RU-vid. Content is amazing, fun, inspiring, passionate, and educational. Would love to see a Europe flight edition. For example north v south italy; or German v Austrian rieslings etc
9:07 I can concur on this. I've been on an educational taste testing for the liquor/wine/beer store franchise I work for, and we were all asked to rate things like boldness, acidity, sweetness from 1 to 12 (like a clock) and describe different aromas, and after 2 hours your mind was completely exhausted and your sense of taste all dulled down.
Now I think you guys could do it together and make it totally random! :) Temperature, order, types of reds and whites... See if you both get them all right 😋
I'm surprised you didn't try something more ambitious: ten wines, five supposedly white, five supposedly red, when in fact 3 are white, 6 are red and one is a mix.
That's a great test. The temperature difference was tricky too. Bordeaux and NZ Sauvignon Blanc are quite distinctive and therefore distinguishable though. Would have been more complicated if there were other wines that are closer to each other tastewise...
Can you try non-alcoholic wines made with various different dealchoholization methods? Let us know if there's any actually good NA wines. I've tried one so far and I was underwhelmed
Hello Jay, im studying for WSET level 2 and I was wondering if you guys have any tips to improve tasting knowledge when tasting by yourself. All I do is compare notes with others from the internet but is there anything else you can recommend?
When you put it into perspective that most wine tasters cannot tell the difference of color between the tastes, it makes Peter seem on another level, and he is.
As a sommelier, i did this a lot with the team and It is indeed exceptionally difficult. In this case though, a Marlborough SB is very distinctive even completely blind, maybe try with a lesser fragrant varietal?
Hey Jay, I"m tasting Biological wine right now, I was very skeptical, but the wine is wonderful, Less powerful but more complexity, you should maybe do an episode with Biological wines. Also please post more videos frequently! love 💓💓💓
I'd like to know what you all think of Justin Isosceles. It used to be much cheaper, but it's around 80-90 dollars (up from 55). I'd like to know what you see in that wine that could possibly give it that price point compared to some of the great wines you've been and tasting and reviewing at that price. It's a pretty big winery with the people in the central valley in California.
It's 50/50 according to the test, but you have to include the possibilities that many of them most likely just guessed and were right or wrong by accident. It might be that only 25% could tell the difference, and them being able to tell the difference is maybe because of experience, maybe because they had more experience with red wine or with white wine, knowing that what they taste is similar to what they are akin to. Or their taste buds is genetically better, so they can taste better. Peter loves White wine, but he also drinks red wine, maybe 50/50? So it's harder for him, because it could be anything that could remind him of all the whines in his past, kinda clouding his judgement. Is my theory. Also what kind of wine did the testers drink? If it's local wine (i.e. french wine) they most likely have an edge (and a curse) to not know how other wine outside might be tricky as in taste like red wine but it is white wine.
Lol this was good, but to be fair, sauv blanc also has a very distinct nose that you can tell very easily. It has a trademark cat urine note lol. It would have been interesting to use super dry chardonnays for white, and pinot noir or gamay for red - and do it blindfolded! That could be more difficult.
Fun episode, but slightly disappointed by the chosen wine. if you cannot distinguish a new zealand sauvignon blanc (very typical tropical fruit + grapefruit + grassy explosion) from a red wine, your nose is not working. I was a bit disappointed to see that one as the white. For me personally, its one of the easiest wines to identify in the world. I would like to see the experiment again with less aromatic white, such as a tighter french white Other than that: great episode :)
Hahahah, beautiful challenge! However, I find it very difficult to believe that people cannot understand the differences between a red and a white wine!! If true, it is unbelievable!
Could you get 8 wines (each choose 2 whites and 2 reds) and pick 6 wines at random to test and see how well you do picking the wine - served in black glasses**?
That was too easy....should have taken wine more confusing as for instance the white one with a lot of oak or an orange one....and a sweet red wine like a reccioto....
If you have blind people in a wine tasting they will tell you that wine has all five basic senses: touch, sight, smell, taste and even hearing, because when you pour different wines, they will make different noise.
Given that this test was 50/50, this tells me that he guessed correctly this time =). Joking aside, would love to provide an even more "diaboloical" test as some other people have suggested below.
Love your vids. But wasn't Peter spitting out the wine during the taste which means he can see the colour of the wine. I know he would have got it right anyway, but still. I'd love to see more vids blind tasting Bordeaux to see which non first growths are the best. Cheers
