I have to say, this is crazy. Now with this ifttt triggers, you almost can trigger everything on Alexa. However, Amazon seems to be working so hard from preventing third party intergrading especially for routine trigger. Today, everything changed.
Man Andy you never fail me! This was exactly what I was looking for. Was able to use this with a virtual Smartthings button so now I'm able to use an Alexa routine to trigger another Alexa routine. This opened so many new doors for me when it comes to automations
Andy Your videos are very informative and particularly this one in which you explain how to integrate Alexa and IfTTT together. I'll be watching you weekly, Thank you
I got this working as way of notifying me when my weather station is offline. What I am really looking for is a way to take the iPhone notifications I get from a scanner app when there is a fire in my area (>x # of listeners) and use that to trigger an Alexa notification. Don't need to pass all the details, just that a notification was received from the scanner app.
If it was Android, I'd suggest something like Tasker or Automate to watch for the notifications, then pass some info back to IFTTT or something similar. I think there are some alternative apps that may be able to do this on iOS such as WorkFlow or Scriptable. I haven't used them myself, but I know for Automate for example, you can set a routine to watch for specific notifications to the phone then run a routine or automation on another app such as IFTTT.
Thanks, Andy. Now I can get Alexa to respond to more than just voice commands. When my Arlo camera detects movement the feed from the camera appears on my Echo Show.
@@bassPindaHouse PART 1 (Alexa): In the Alexa app enable the skill "IFTTTrigger". This will give you 3 virtual devices in your Alexa app: "IFTTTrigger-1", "IFTTTrigger-2" etc. (You can rename these if you wish). Still in the Alexa app set up a new routine and give it a meaningful name. Under "When this happens" click on "Smart Home". You will see your 3 IFTTTriggers. Choose one (take a note of which one) and click "Save". You're now back in your "NEW ROUTINE". Under "Add Action" click on "Customised". Type "show xxx camera". Under "Choose Device" select the Echo Show that you want to display your camera. PART 2 (IFTTT): If Arlo (Motion Detected ... Which Device?): Select your camera. Then That add: "alexa actions by mkZense". Choose the IFTTTrigger you selected in Part 1 above. I hope I got that description right and that it helps.
@@FNL77 Thanks for the answer. I'm stuck with the custom routine: setting the action, the only device that appears is the phone itslef, my echo show doesn't appear on the list. IDK why. The second part is already running OK, I did set it up and for feedback told IFTTT to notify me if the trigger happens, and it is working. Regarding the echo show, IDK why it doesn't show up. It does on my devices list and is running ok for whatever other purpose.
Sounds great and solves some shortcomings, e.g. with the missing Rademacher integration with IFTTT. However, the Amazon account must be connected to mkzense. I haven't read anything about security and data protection. What is your opinion on this?
I haven't had any issues to be honest, it does give me room for pause but Amazon's API is fairly restrictive so permissions wise i don't see that I'm giving the developer anything I'm uncomfortable with.
Thanks for your great video! Could you tell mi how to connect NFC tag scanned by my phone to trigger action on Alexa device (switch or light? ). I want to switch on/off my device not only by voice command but also using tag. Thanks a lot !
Great question. You could try an app like NFC Tools which can trigger shortcuts, then create a shortcut in whatever app, like philips hue to turn off the light. The only thing is that on and off might be a challenge. Doing one is fine but you'd have to figure out how to create a shortcut that toggles between on and off. I might investigate this more :)
Yes! I’ve been trying to figure out how to create an automation on my iPhone where I can scan an NFC tag, select from a list of items I’ve got in my regular shopping list, and it triggers Alexa to add those items to my shopping list.
Yup, have one over here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jg5ir1y9r1Y.html its the same process regardless of what device you're using, so I've followed up on your comment there.
Thanks for the useful video. For some reason, I am unable to get a list of the Make Sense actions in the devices list in Alexa. I have triple checked to ensure that everything is synced and connected, but to no avail. Have you ever come across this issue before?
Seems to be very common, there's some good troubleshooting steps on the MKZense website: mkzense.com/ but most of the time disconnecting and reconnecting Alexa and IFTTT seems to resolve the issue. Try out the steps on the website and if not there's an email for additional support as it seems to happen quite regularly.
Assuming you have GPS / location services allowed in IFTTT there's an option to create an applet which is triggered by 'location'. Using this you can select a location you enter or leave as the trigger then get IFTTT to run whatever command or turn on whatever device you want.
Hi David, its being rolled out so you may not see it in the app yet, but when you do its under routines under 'add action' and its the very bottom option, icon looks like a keyboard. It can't be a trigger BTW, only a final action. Hope this helps.
In IFTTT you can add multiple MKzense actions in the 'then' section which could be assigned to different routines. But it might be easier to just add all the actions to one routine in Alexa, but both will work.
Great video,! Unfortunately I tried the method and I get an update message saying that nest services with a google account doesn’t work with ifttt... any suggestions would be welcomed, thnks!
Not sure what you're trying to do as this is only meant to work with Amazon Alexa routines, but as a side note Google are forcing users with nest products to update their accounts from the old to a new Google Nest account, this is for Nest speakers and cameras but like I said this method is only for Alexa devices.
Yes, but I've gone into detail on your other comment. You still need to create multiple routines, 1 for each device you want to display the doorbell on. Check out my reply to the other comment you left. :) The main thing is being creative with 'customized actions' in Alexa routines.
Bom Dia, tudo bem?
So I'm wondering if I can use IFTT to use skills in a routine. I have a skill that gives options when opened. Alexa says you can do thing like ... what would you like to do and you must reply I want listen to... I would like to make a routine that makes the skills do they options I want without having to give it a voice command. Is this possible?
There's no real way to create options in routines, so you might look at creating a skill or a blueprint for Alexa as this gives much more flexibility and options. See here for more detail: blueprints.amazon.com/
Hi Andy, I tried to use the Trigger with a PIR sensor to turn on a light and set up some music when people passing near the sensor. Unfortunately the routines takes one o two minutes to start and most times doesn't start at all. Do you have any suggest? Thanks
Unfortunately there's not a lot that you can do about the lag as each device needs to communicate back to its server then back to the local devices so with multiple devices this will be slow. The only thing you could look at is seeing if you can get the devices to work locally with something like home assistant, but this is complicated to set up.
Still showing up in IFTTT as of now. Strange that you can't see it but its definitely there. In the Alexa app you need to search for 'IFTTTrigger' thats what the skill is called. Its by MkZense but younshould add it in IFTTT first and follow the steps there. In IFTTT hit explore and search for mkzense. Hope you get it sorted cos its working for me at the moment.
There's some good guides on the MkZense website you should check out to help you: mkzense.com/ I've also reached out to the creator before and they're really responsive.
