This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into trigonometric substitution. It explains when to substitute x with sin, cos, or sec. It also explains how to perform a change of variables using u-substitution integration techniques and how to use right triangle trigonometry with sohcahtoa to convert back from angles in the form of theta to an x variable. There's plenty of examples and practice problems in this lesson.

I don't understand how celebrities could be going viral for doing the mundane things, but our educators can't even get the recognition they deserve, as they are the ones actually changing lives. You guys deserve an award for all your hard work. I guarantee you that your hard work and dedication don't go unnoticed. We see you grinding and hustling, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. 3:05 I'm confused about where the "1 - sin^2 0" came from after "removing a 4". I assume it's by getting the square root of 4, which is 2 and would be put outside of the radical sign, but doesn't that instead come from "sin^2 0 + cos^2 0 = 1" trig identity? The present cosine is off to the side of the fraction. It's like it replaced " - 4 sin^2 0"
@MM-wv4ez
@MM-wv4ez 2 года назад
If I’m understanding your question correctly, he took out the 4 because it is a common factor in the two variables (basically he factorised) to get 4(1-sin^2theta). Then he used the trig identity you mentioned (just rearranged making cos^2theta the subject of the equation).

Students can also use the derivatives of inverse trig functions to recall the proper trig substitutions d/dx arcsin(x) = 1/sqrt(1-x^2) d/dx arctan(x) = 1/(1+x^2) d/dx arcsec(x) = 1/(x * sqrt(x^2 - 1)) hyperbolic substitutions, too a*sinh(u) for a*tan(u) a*tanh(u) for a*sin(u) a*cosh(u) for a*sec(u) And you’ll see similar patterns with derivatives of hyperbolic trig functions
