This was really helpful. I’m trying to get the hang of trig and both of your examples helped me tremendously. The book I’m using wasn’t clear on this topic.
How would you convert Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM) into Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS)? And how would you convert Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM) into Decimal degrees (DD). I've searched far and wide and haven't found and answer.
Converting DDM to DMS is actually part of what happens in examples 3 and 4. In example 3 I eventually get to 7.68 minutes. In example 4 I eventually get to 37.44 minutes. Then I convert those to DMS form and add them to the degrees I already had. Follow the process in those examples to get a DMS answer. Then you can convert that DMS to DD format like in examples 1 and 2.
It's been over 2.5 years so I'm not sure where I got the 8 from. Probably read my notes wrong. I just tried it again several times and got 63.97 each time. Thanks for pointing that out!
