I’m not an anime person. Never have been. But this was absolutely PHENOMENAL!! The storyline, the graphics, every scene perfectly crafted. I am so hooked. Curious if anyone else feels the same - but did your heart not break for Nai?? I think the way they crafted his character and told his story was such a beautiful, honest representation of light and darkness that can coexist in someone. Everything Nai did was out of love. Love for his brother and love for his kind. He did terrible things for good reasons. And Vash is the same way. Everything he does is out of love. But their actions out of love are both extremes on opposite ends of the spectrum. Vash is so self sacrificial and forgiving and hopeful and Nai fights to protect what he loves at any cost. My heart just broke for them both. So much pain and good and bad and beauty and I’m just so moved by this whole show. I can’t wait for season 2!!

Anime has a lot to offer if you know where to look. Might wanna keep in mind animation itself is just a different form of media. It's as different from live action movies as those are from plays or books. I'm glad you enjoyed Trigun Stampede, just hope you keep in mind it isn't alone in telling this kind of amazing story.

Compared to the original trigun anime. This one was very low budget and they crippled the main character to the point of truly being a fool. Instead of acting as one.

@@Sunnyso24 Tbh it really depends on what you are into. Do you like sci-fi, fantasy, rom-com, slice of life, gritty and realistic, weird and philosophical, etc. But, here are a few I really enjoy. Odd Taxi is a gritty murder mystery set in modern day Tokyo. Don't let the artstyle fool you! There is a very good reason the characters look the way they do that I can't get into without some pretty major spoilers. But it is seriously deep, and feels like you're watching a cross between a Guy Ritchie/Quentin Tarantino film that was split into 12 or maybe 13 I forget TV episodes. Vivy; Fluorite Eyes Song is a sci-fi show about a theme park pop idol android who gets pulled into a 100 year long project to prevent the destruction of humanity via a robot uprising. It's gorgeously animated and examines themes of humanity, consciousness, creativity and the soul. Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and the GitS movies are all regarded as classics. They were definitely inspiration for Vivy, but take place in a gritty more dystopian futuristic setting. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. One is a space western about a group of lovable (but also kinda jerks) bounty hunters. The other is a period piece set in historic Japan. Both are made by the same creator and both are highly episodic. They both do have an overarching plot, but most of the time you're just vibing with the cast in a cool setting. Code Geass is a philosophical sci fi drama with lots of mech fights and political intrigue. It follows a displaced Britannian Noble who leads a rebellion against his family with a power he acquires from a mysterious woman. Re; Zero is an Isekai (transported to another world) fantasy drama/horror)intrigue. The main character is (intentionally) a bit of a wimp. He seems to have the attention of a certain mystic entity within that world that refuses to allow him to die. And he dies, like.... A lot. Occasionally more than once an episode! The MC is basically a well intentioned Otaku who can be a bit of a moron who was dropped into the middle of a complicated political intrigue. But he gets better as the show progresses and the story/lore are interesting af imo Vinland Saga is historical fiction about when the Vikings invaded England around 1000 AD. The MC is fictional, but the broad strokes of the story follow the actual history, with some obvious dramatizations. It's very well animated and emotional. Askelaad especially is an incredibly morally complex character, and there will be several points during the show where you're not sure who to root for. Overlord is the story of an ordinary Japanese Salaryman who ends up trapped in the body of a character he played in an MMO that shut down. His transformation into a Lich comes with the deadening of his emotions, and you are definitely following the story of the Big Bad Evil Guy as he takes over the world, but it's glorious seeing the contrast between well meaning socially awkward Japanese Salaryman trying to act like the big tough boss so all his evil minions don't rebel against him (even though they very likely never would) 86 is a dystopian sci-fi mech show following a war between humanity and the machine army they created. It examines several different types of government, as well as racism. I can't get into too much more without spoilers, but it is very good. Anohana follows the story of a group of friends who grew apart after a tragedy. Again, can't get into too much more without spoilers, but it is one of the most emotionally impactful shows I have ever seen, and imo is the greatest "how to teach people to deal with grief" manual. Watch it if you are ever in need of just, the best crying session. Sword of the Stranger is a movie. It follows the story of a wandering swordsman who decides to protect a young boy who is being hunted. It is also historical fiction. Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd skill is a slice of life fantasy show that follows an average dude who gets summoned to another world..... By complete accident because he was standing too close to the actual heroes. It's hilarious, but also very insightful about politics. The MC decides to become a travelling merchant, gets some very powerful friends because of his ability to cook delicious meals, and travels around a fantasy world. It's part food porn, part comedy, and 100% good vibes. Bocchi the Rock follows an incredibly social awkward young girl who decides to learn to play the guitar to make friends. Spoiler alert, spending hours and hours in her room practicing guitar didn't make her any better at it. It's an incredibly cute and funny show, the animation is great (it changes styles often for the gags in a way that is just perfect), the MC is incredibly relatable, and the music isn't half bad either. Elfin Lied is a story about man's inhumanity towards anyone we consider "less than human" or different. It follows a young woman with a mutation that basically gives her psychic powers. The first episode is her escaping from the lab where she was held, but in the process experiencing sever head trauma that gives her something of a split personality. Warning - gore and nudity. No sex, it isn't that kind of show. Made in Abyss is one that definitely isn't for everyone. It is set in a fantasy world, and follows the story of a young girl who is travelling into a great Abyss in search of her mother. Lots of body horror, and definitely has some extremely questionable content, but a fascinating story and world. It has quite possibly one of the most beautiful/terrifying/alien settings I have ever experienced across any form of media. You may find elements of the story to be extremely disturbing, but you will also have a hard time looking away, and it will definitely be one of the most unique experiences you have ever had. Again, it can be just..... Incredibly messed up at times, and tbh I'm not even sure I'm recommending it to you. But it is a great example of a show that could only be animated. There is absolutely no way to do it justice with a live action film or book. Last one for now, I could probably go on a lot longer but this'll be enough. It's definitely less of a mainstream recommendation but one of my all time favorites. Planet With on the surface looks like a mecha show aimed at kids. However, it is one of the most philosophically/religiously dense shows I have ever seen. It follows the story of a young boy who has lost his memories. He now lives with a large anthropomorphic alien cat who transforms into a giant robot to fight "bad guys". Again, can't say much without major spoilers, but all I can say is I thought it was brilliant, but can understand that a lot of people who aren't as interested in philosophy as I am might not get it, because again, on the surface it definitely looks like it's a show just for kids. Hope you find some of those appealing! If you want a few more recommendations let me know. And please keep in mind, these are all just my opinion. These are all shows that on some level spoke to me about very real feelings, but your mileage may vary.

Grew up with Trigun and the manga. I was unsure about the CGI when it was announced but when I seen the trailer I was hooked. It's good. No. Its amazing and probably one of the best remakes I have seen today. The redesigns are great. I like Vashs new look. They kept the red and the old look would have probably been hard to make look good. We will see with season 2 if he has his old look or keeps the red. I hope the new red jacket comes back and the undercut fluffy hair. I think it fits his soft personality. As much as I do love the og hair style I personally think that it makes him look more like his brother and a bad guy with the CGI look. Cant wait to see what season 2 holds.

A lot of people in the comments are talking about the pacing, and I want to say that I personally enjoy the pacing in Stampede more so than the original anime. In the original, it took a lot longer for the more serious elements of the plot to actually appear, so if the watcher is someone with short attention span, they would probably drop the show, and go watch something else, unless they are really attached to the characters already. They managed to fix that issue in Stampede with just 12 episodes, and I really hope it gets a continuation, so I can see this unique version of the story unfold.

I like the take and being so fair to all the different versions of the stories. My one thing is that even if the Stampede soundtrack is good, it isn't as fitting as the original anime soundtrack. Although the original soundtrack has some weakness (like not having a good theme for Knives), it was so much more raw and characterful. It felt way more appropriate for a desert world that was both worn out and still fighting daily to survive. The new soundtrack with its lush orchestration was beautiful but too polished and just not as good a fit for the setting. Still, that Stampede soundtrack has some bangers.

I wrote off this anime because, well, CGI. I've always been a huge Trigun fan as it was one of the first 5 animes I ever watched back when I started giving the stuff a chance. What a way to start my anime adventure too. That all being said, after watching a few clips from Stampede here and there I decided to give it a try. Man am I not disappointed. Millions Knives motivation is easily a million fold that of his previous anime's. I will say one thing though, I much preferred the way Wolfwood and Vash bounced off one another in the original anime. Made them feel like 2 sides of the same coin. I'm still hoping for more of a brotherhood to form between the 2 of them in next season like what they had in the original anime but aside from that I love what they have done with the series. I love Trigun so much and even though I've never really read any manga I might have to fold and give it a shot for Trigun's sake. Thank you for your video and insight!

@pooks_
@pooks_ Год назад
Hard disagree about it being better than 98, but if I were to explain it all I'd just make a script for a video analysis on both shows, arguing that overall Trigun has better writing. And I'd want to rewatch both again for that kind of effort, to verify that's how I feel. I might genuinely do it when I'm not procrastinating. For context, I watched Stampede first and thought it was fantastic. It's literally like saying "I like vanilla ice-cream with cookies but ice-cream with brownies is way better." Like yeah, I guess so, but they're both pretty damn good and you'd be happy eating either. My love for Trigun over Stampede is highly subjective, though I think there are many misses objectively with Stampede's thematic writing. If anyone is curious about my feelings I've already written a messy RU-vid comment ramble on a random Trigun OST video and I'm going to reply to this comment with that ramble. So read it if you have watched both shows and have nothing better to do.
@pooks_
@pooks_ Год назад
TLDR; I think Trigun is better thematically and aesthetically mainly for personal preferences but the writing is a little better objectively. And I watched Stampede first, for some context. ⚠MAJOR SPOILER and MASSIVE RAMBLE WARNING for anyone else reading. Like actually I spoil the best parts of both shows, word for word, seriously. I'm BEGGING YOU, don't read it and go watch. I saw Stampede first and loved it, but after watching Trigun I can say I love it more, mostly because of personal preference. I think I can agree that Vash's new design is modernized, they kinda leaned into his soft-boy personality for his design, and I feel like he's a bit less of a goof in Stampede. I personally like how he looks in Trigun because he looks like a badass with his bright-red bullet-holed coat, but he is really just a goof and a softhearted guy. That's really the fun of his character and it just comes off better in Trigun. Writing-wise, I heard that the creators wanted to focus more on sci-fi aspects rather than western. Like some sci-fi writer guy basically wrote a lore-bible that covered the history of the first 150 years on the desert planet, according to the Trash Taste podcast episode about Trigun Stampede (that I didn't finish, fake fan). This is awesome and admirable, but I personally like the rustic worn down western feel of Trigun and how lowkey it is with it's sci-fi. In the first half of trigun, pretty much everyone is chilling doing fun western stuff and you could easily be tricked into thinking this is a western set on earth, only being tipped off to a few things, possibly making you think it's a bit fantasy/sci-fi. In the final half it gets serious both thematically and lore-wise, which I like, whereas in stampede we pretty much know the main conflict and major lore from the start, that the protagonist has a badguy brother and we're not on earth. Anticipation for the lore-drops and character pasts and seeing where characters are aligned with what groups are the parts that make you wanna watch more of Stampede. Thematically, I enjoyed Trigun more. In Stampede, I think the thematic focus was primarily on humanity's survival and the various ways characters and societies attempt to shape the future for humanity. Which is really cool but maybe a bit overused in modern media and a bit impersonal. They also do this in Trigun, but I feel to a lesser degree, so they can also focus on very personal themes of life and death and regret to a greater extent, challenging Vash and Wolfwood's moral compasses and actions, which I LOVE SO MUCH. Going back to the concept of Trigun getting more serious in the final half of the show, there's a scene where Vash is trying to be his go-lucky self and eat some donuts, but he breaks down crying because everyone around him is dying despite trying so hard to do the right thing. That scene is CHILLING. We really feel for Vash there. We honestly never got anything that damn emotional in Stampede (as far as I can remember) which is an actual disappointment. Oh ANOTHER great scene in Trigun. Legato says: "I will haunt Vash for eternity." Then a couple episodes after, Vash confronts Legato. He's already mad as hell and the intent to hurt or kill is vaguely there. Legato can understand why, Legato is a large part of the reason so much death follows Vash. The girls run after Vash, because they're worried they'll never see him again because Vash is at an emotional lowpoint after Wolfwood's death. Legato starts mind-controlling locals to start attacking the girls just a little bit away from Vash and Legato. He then essentially asks for Vash to kill him because in his own words he doesn't deserve to live. Vash says he can't and begs Legato to let the girls go. Legato clearly presents the logic that shooting him in the head would spare the lives of two innocent women. He also clearly presents that ending the suffering through shooting him would end his 100% commitment to passivity and Rem's ideals. Also he literally calls Rem a worthless human being, and says he's also a worthless human being, but that Vash has more worth. Which is the exact opposite of everything Vash believes. This would 'kill' Rem in Vash's mind. In the end he does it, recounting Rem's words that no one has the right to kill another. He loses his innocence. This kind of stuff is amazing, and I love it. I really makes you think about the value of life quite seriously, and makes you consider if sacrifices are necessary or just. FAR better execution than Stampede's humanity is destructive theme imo, because Trigun's humanity is destructive theme is personal, it's something individuals can consider what they'd do in the character's shoes. Stampede just kinda says humanity do be generally quite destructive but there's lots of redeeming qualities. It's less personal, its more big picture, and imo a bit shallow. I think the closest Stampede got to ever was when Vash killed Kni. It seems like it was trying to do the same thing that the Legato kill scene did but it really did not have the same effect because Vash didn't choose to kill him out of his own free will, it was Kni who was committing suicide essentially. I feel like Stampede is a lot more creative with it's sci-fi designs and lore, and I love it's detailed animation to go along with it. The part where Kni attempts to recreate his brother and go to a higher dimension using that huge thorn plant woman is awesome. Kni's powers are so cool in stampede. Also the city-scapes are awesome. I think it's objectively more detailed than Trigun with both scenes and animation. I think I agree about the plants though, them looking like angels in 98 adds a lot of literal meaning to the part where Rem says something along the lines of God sent them, they're a pair of angels. Generally I still aesthetically prefer Trigun. Again, it feels like it was trying to be more western rather than sci-fi. So the old gritty animation style and colors couple well with it. It also couples really well with the lighthearted first half of the show, sometimes I think 2D animation or at least low framerates can't be beat with expressivity. Kni never really fights with any powers which adds to the western feel. Sorta torn about that one. Generally the cool gun action is cooler in Trigun because there isn't much sci-fi stuff overshadowing it. Idk this paragraph is just me repeating that the western fights > sci-fi fights in my mind, probably because I've watched a ton of sci-fi stuff before. Anyway to conclude all this, I think the two shows have two separate visions for the same story. Stampede has it's focus on sci-fi and themes of humanity's survival and humanity's worth on a grand scale. I personally prefer Trigun as it feels lowkey sci-fi and looks at themes of humanity's survival on a much more personal scale. It takes a hard look at 'nessesary' sacrifice vs trying to do the right thing, making you really consider the value of life and the finality of death, and ultimately drives home that the ticket to the future is always blank.

After seeing how much it was praised, I decided to rewatch the original anime before giving Stampede another shot. I really want to like Stampede so I guess I will see how it goes!

I think it's going to do the same thing for me as with the Hellsing adaptations : the first anime has a very specific, extremely cool vibe to it that makes it, despite being overall a less good adaptation, very dear to my heart, and the new one is also extremely cool but kinda lacks that vibe. So I'll probably keep rewatching both with different intentions

For me this is just so much better than the original Trigun. I freaking love Stampede so much and staight up turned into one of my favorites animes. I think this series is fantastic from start to finish and they do a wonderful job translating the magic of the manga. Is so faithful and yet so unique and special than makes it good. They manage to somehow make this whole story makes sense on a great pace and great coherence. I was shockely surprised. I can't support a statement that the Stampede is better than the original anime, but... It's not worse either. It's different: it has a different pacing, a different animation style and even a different story line. I still prefer the original anime, but I can understand why many people prefer this version. I love it too. Also the 3D animation turned out to be better than I supposed, kinda resembling the first Titanfall design.

I loved this series as well as the 98 series. The old series feels a bit limited by the animation at the time, so it made up for it with beautiful landscapes and a flowing script with a charismatic cast. The new series definitely has lost some deep element to the original that was brought from that era's animation style and process, but it captures so much more of the rich deep details from the manga that weren't able to be worked into the original series. The old series pulled off the dystopia western gunslinger vibe, but the new series is able to use today's technology to the fullest to capture sci-fi/fantasy scenes from the manga I never thought would be possible to the degree they pulled off.

I think the only problem...and big problem with Stampede is Total rush. Becouse of it we got massive information dumps in if I remember well in three episodes after ep 8 wich makes those episodes kinda hollow. Last episode is hyped and simple with epic fight. Not as satisfying as it could be but I still cried xD. But besides that? It kinda perfect! The animation, soundtrack... overall theme and concept of the lore wich was kinda badly pathed in last episodes and to rushed but i love it still.i mean the Undertaker lore was one of the best things i have watched it was so terrifying...huh. Most horrible thing that people do is deciding that the new approach to a anime automatically makes it bad because it's not like the original and that is just sad.

As someone that only JUST got into Trigun this year (OG anime, Stampede, and manga) I don't have the nostalgia goggles, so I can look at ALL three versions for what they are. So far, Trigum Maximum is the best version of Trigun, Stampede is my personal fave version, and the 98 anime is WAY too quotable and I am basically always quoting it. I gave it a chance believing it's a prequel to the actual story of 98 anime. And then during one of episodes July city was confirmed to be alive. That's when it clicked me. This is much bigger than original was. It's not just retelling, but something else. Than i noticed how Author of Trigun himself mentioned that fans will not see the bigger picture of this project at first, but he can see it, and he can confirm it's real Trigun he always wanted to show. Yasuhiro Nightow: "It's something that was being developed for a very long time. And really, yesterday was a significant day because of that. But also it's just a start for all the things. I think it's the start of something fantastic and something that a lot of people will like. So fan can just consider this as the start. It's just the start. So when they were developing this Trigun, I saw that they were taking elements from my comic and expanding it, rearranging it, restructuring it, redesigning it, and adding depth to it. They're trying to raise the quality of the show as well. I thought that there might some changes, but once they took all of the series in and started adapting it onto film, I felt that this is still Trigun. This is Trigun. I want the fans to know is that I really want them to watch this. And after watching, I think that you'll feel the same way as me. But i can't give a such high rating as 9/10 because it's a prequel and we need to see the real deal that comes next. So it's a solid 7/10 at the moment for me. It's objectively weak during first episodes, so that's totally fair.

I found the hate for this series so bizarre. The animation was always beautiful. I know CGI puts some anime fans off but like, it's so weird to just push off a medium of art simply because of how it's made. Is that not what people do to anime as a whole? Also, if they wanted the original, they could've read either the manga or the 98' anime. I actually did watch the entire 98' manga before I watched Stampede and enjoyed it. However, Stampede seemed to be something completely different, especially from the start. I noticed it was a Prequel when JuLai was mentioned in the first episode and I realized Meryl was younger than she was in the previous adaptation and the original manga.

Great video, man, but i have to respectfully disagree with Trigun Stampede being better than 90s anime. Yes, i have seen 90s show and read the manga as well. Maybe it's my personal preference, but don't get me wrong, Stampede is hell of a good show and maybe my opinion will change in season 2. I do agree with you about Knives being handled better here than in 90s anime. It was massive overhaul on his character and same with Zazie the Beast. Kinda wished we see more of Legato, but they'll likely save him for season 2. Now as for the main characters, Vash the Stampede, i'm glad that they kept his personality intact, but i had some issue with some scenes with him of him constantly failing and being useless, but it was likely the intention to make him grow competent later. I get the intention, but it was not good impression for me. Wolfwood and Livio stuff was great, though so no complaints as i missed that from old anime. Meryl was alright, although sometimes i have to wonder her real agency. Her starting out as rookie to eventually become senpai is good arc for her, but sometimes i don't understand her real reason for wanting and risking her life for Vash(maybe due to show's fast pacing)As for Roberto, i'll probably get burned for this, but i found him really uninteresting. He seemed like typical drunken cynic archetype i've seen in lots of media. As in regards to Rollo aka Monev the Gale, i agree with you about giving him expanded backstory to make him more human, but at the same time i hated it, because it took away the pivotal moment from manga and 98 anime, where Vash for first time, nearly broke and contemplated killing someone after witnessing all the death and destruction caused by Monev. I wished Stampede would've had scene like that with Vash. Yes, the pacing is one of my main issues about this show. Characters move to place to place at very fast and sometimes appear in different area all of sudden. That being said the show got better for me around episode 6-onwards. As for the music, i have to admit i miss the old western feel of 98s anime. I felt it gave the show its identity and feel. That being said, the music in Trigun Stampede is fantastic and i like its ending theme especially While i don't agree show being better than 98 show(yet), i can safely say the new show is worth to watch and it is another Trigun experience. I cannot wait the second season with Milly. Now, i don't claim 98 anime to be perfect in anyway, because of course it isn't. It has plenty flaws just like Stampede, but at this point Stampede has the potential to be the best Trigun experience we might have in long tkme.

3D animation and computer aided animation is not the enemy. And shouldn't be treated as such. When used in conjunction with care and an artistic idea and style it allows for a much higher calibur of production. This had the charm and facial expressions of a 2D drawn animation with the benefits 3D bring like being able to move clothing and hair without costing the animators a ton of effort and time or the studio a ton of money. Much more life as characters don't stand still waiting there action when conversing all the characters are moving. As consumers we are getting a higher quality of visual spectacle recently than ever before it's not a bad thing when it's done with care.

personally, I thought Stampede was mid, the story wasn't anything that good, nor did I feel invested, but I still finished it cause I felt like I should finish it all, for a prequel, it definitely could've been better. Strife felt empty as a character, I didn't understand why did they need to even put a mentor for her, I feel that her maturity was cut down for the sake of adding a mentor. I also don't understand how is it a prequel, since it showed us that vash had the bounty from the beginning, even being named the typhoon, and he (presumably) killed knives, so I'm not even sure it's a prequel anymore, might as well call it a season finale. maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but when vash was sad, it was boring, i felt it was more focused on his face, rather his emotions. Good Animation doesn't equal Good Story, that being said, I'm still gonna be waiting for the next implementation. sorry for pasting my thoughts here, I just wanna express my opinion lol.
