Trike Side Seat Mount and Arkel Bag 

I was asked today if I was you because I had my trike. So, I had to seek you out. Glad I found you.

My wife and I tried the T-Cycle SeatSide mounts on our Catrikes. I ended up removing the mounts and put Catrike rear racks on our trikes. We had two issues with the SeatSide mounts. Before installing the mounts we had no issue loading our trikes into our Dodge Caravan. The first trike went in forward and second trike backward. With the SeatSide mounts we could not fit the trikes into the van. The mounts were either hitting the the trikes or the side of the van. We could not get the rear triangles of the trikes close enough together to fit in the van. This was a big problem since we like to go on vacation and take our trikes. Removing the mount arms for two trikes each day on a seven day trip would be a real pain. The second issue we had with the SeatSide mounts was how dirty our bags got on our local trails. Our house is located next to a network of 140 miles of bike trails. Even though the trails are paved quite a few miles of the trails are through wooded areas. There are wet leaves, berries, and other types of debris on the trails. Even with Catrikes excellent front fenders with mud flaps the debris was still being thrown up onto our bags since they sit close to the ground with the SeatSide mounting. We were always cleaning the bags. In the end we decided the best solution for us was to remove the SeatSide mounts and go with rear racks. If you do not load two trikes in a minivan and ride clean roads and trails, or do not mind bags getting dirty the SeatSide mounts will probably be fine for you.

I have a small Arkel handlebar bag. It's simple, and has become my most favorite piece of bike gear. I even use it off the bike as my carry bag, enough room for wallet, keys, mask, and phone. Very well made piece of gear.

I recently replaced my homemade PVC side rack with the one T-cycle offers. I'm very pleased with the quality and ease of use. I have an inexpensive handle bar bag I got off Amazon mounted to it.

Side mount bag was one of my first priorities after I recently purchased my ICE Adventure. Thx for tips.

Morning Sylvia, Good Review. I have the Terra-Cycle mount with two Evo side bags. They are smaller than the one that you have so that the outside of the bags are even with the outside of my front wheels.

Merry Christmas Sylvia! I really like your description of the side mount and bag. Having one means being able to reach what you need without getting up off the trike. I have an Arkel Tailrider trunk bag, so I already know while costly, their bags are virtually indestructible. I have a little story to tell. On a recent ride I saw a bald eagle high up in a tree next to the trail I was on. I keep my smartphone on a mount on my left bar, so I had to remove it to take a photo of the bird. Naturally the phone camera didn't have enough zoom to get a decent shot. This illustrates two things: 1. I need a good point-and-shoot zoom camera. 2. I need a side bag to get at the stuff I carry. I also need to do a video on my accessories. As I've gotten more creative and my video skills have improved, like you I've accumulated more cameras, mounts, etc. Since I ride a Trident, no doubt I'll have to get the mount from our pal Pat at TerraCycle. All this is very frustrating, as Covid has really impacted our financial situation. I just can't afford to buy much of anything right now (though I did manage to get some winter clothing). Obviously my trike video obsession has to take a back seat. Your videos continue to be an inspiration for me. I've learned a lot by watching them, from the equipment you use, to the shots you create. I think one of best things you do is your beautiful drone shots. Of course, if I want to try doing them that brings things back to money . Getting older means learning patience. I'll get to some of these things eventually. In the meantime I'll continue to make the best videos I can with what I have 😁.

I put the T-Cycle Catrike system on my trike with an Altura bag. Awesome. Have essentially same system with some mods on my wife’s Hase. Greatest trike accessory invented.

I have a side seat mount also for a Terra Trike Rambler and it is fromTerra cycle. Those side seat mounts and bags are very handy.

I have 2 topeak bags on my sides, love em. Very convenient place to carry stuff.

I have the T-Cycle mount on my Catrike Dumont with the large, red Arkel bag. Easy to carry my keys, camera, cell phone, power packs, snacks, chap stick, etc. Very, very handy. Excellent build quality, red has faded in the AZ sun. I'm not surprised 🙄

Great video and very good info for dose side bag, I know I don't have trike yet, but maybe next year I will to buy used 2nd hand trike. In Malaysia not to many people ride trike because it was to expensive and all people know about it. Any way very nice video. Be safe and take care. From Malaysia.

Sylvia, very helpful video. I have a pair of the Arkel panniers and have thought of getting a side bag for years. I have a very small side bag that is not big enough for items I want to carry now. Because we are used to doing a fair amount of riding and finding ourselves on trails out in the country late at night, we have thought about additional security that will fit into a bag that I can access quickly rather than having a shoulder holster. We do like our cameras as well and so this video is helpful. We have seen you using a bag for quite some time and trust your opinion on this setup Thanks for doing this.

Hi Sylvia I Have used a bright Orange noodle with two zip ties across the back of my seat so I am more Visible from behind. Norm DeBuck

I have the Terra-trike side bar for my delta Trigo. Have the same bag. I had to do a bit of fine tuning to get it close to, but not too close to the trike. Like you, I find the bag has tremendous utilitarian use.

I just love your videos... so helpful.. I have a side bag for both my trikes. And love it... I am interested in the clips. My clip on my bag is like a square plastic.. I wonder if I can get a different closer clips for that... thank you again very helpful..

For keys, cell phone, quick lunch: On the Dumont - Arkel seat recumbent bag. On the 700: Arkel Frame bags. Neither is easy for quick grab like a camera. I have Arkel Dolphin 48L (great for shopping), Radical Design M banana Panniers (with liners). The wet tent goes outside waterproof liners to dry, handy to toss in lightly. I keep light bulky stuff in those banana bags to reduce sway issues. CPAP and Battery up top, close to the frame tube. Less momentum induced sway!

I have both the smokey mountain seat bag and the larger saddle bags. I use the seat bag all the time. The saddle bags not as much. I find they sway quite a bit and that is aggravating, unless I installed them incorrectly. (That’s very likely, lol.)

I guess your lights are built in. Those come under the accessory category for a lot of people.

When you start listing those prices it makes me think of the cost of things on a small sailboat, (which you can also buy used for as much or less than a trike). lol

Hi Sylvia, as I gather more and more video gear I've been looking for a solution for carrying it all and as you point out, having it accessible while riding. I ride an ICE Sprint 26 and I have the ICE side bag but it just isn't big enough. I was thinking of possibly getting a new bar to carry bags on both sides but that gets pretty expensive, pretty quickly. But after watching your video I'm thinking I might be able to just upgrade to a larger bag provided I can mount it so thank you!

I have a side trike. I attach it to my bag and pedal it. And when I have to go to the bathroom I take it off and carry the trike with me inside.

Nice that they have those mounts. My most valuable items woud be candy.😁😉 I am looking to ad tgat also to my trike. Great to keep my keys, wallet and other stuff in. I don't like it in my pockets of my jeans as I ride. As I ride on wet roads, my legs hget wet as I ride trough water. It comes op and goes to the sides. So I am going to ad something to keep the water away. I am always worried that they steal my trike, so I lock it very well. I don't know why, but I only have that with my trike. I think that I love it to much. As I see that weather there, than I am very jealous. Here it is cold and wet.
