Thank you! I am just a home owner but the trimmer heads have been a pain for years. The plastic wears out quickly. Your solution is the best I have seen!

Great upgrade for a bump head rig. A tip to avoid being so 0off center with your drilled hole, start with a smaller hole like about 3/32" then drill larger hole thru it. Nice video.

Lining that lower spring seat is a factor that seems at least as important as the outer reinforcement. The winding of the spring is in the wrong direction and the raw edge against the rotating plastic allows it to 'plow' a groove into and eventually THROUGH it. Just being wound in the opposite direction and curled up a bit would allow the spring to 'ski' around the inner surface of the plastic and at least last a little longer. An inner liner (washer ) for that spring cures the wear-through....and 'They' know it, hence the consumable design. Great tip on the through bolt for 'bullet-proofing ' the outside surface.

@markluxton3402

If/when I do this, I plan to use a ball hammer to make the washer curved. Doing this one can use an even larger washer. Make sure the hole in washer fits tightly on the bolt so it stays centered. Grind off the top of the bolts corners so it can not damage pavement or concrete.

I know this is an old video but it very useful. I used a new bump spool once for my 20volt dewalt string trimmer and it's already worn the the point where two areas of the plastic have chipped off on the head. Why aren't the caps made of metal?!

they make them cheap so you have to replace the cap ..... HENCE more money for the COMPANY...
@Resist4

@@rjazco51 I figured that but at almost $30 a pop it’s expensive and such a waste when it’s just the cap that most often needs replacing. They could just sell replacement caps.

Ball peen the fender washer to match the contour of the trimmer cap. Make fender washer concave on one side. A vice or section of pipe or even a large closed end wrench could be used for a relief to form the washer. That should help in stop catching stuff around the washer

Best to tap bump on grass or weed. Trimmer head makes a different trim sound depending on amount of string exposed. You don't need to smash it when you bump. Learn how much bump (impact) you need to release string. Know your TITS.. Trigger to speed.. Identify location to bump.. Trigger release.. Safely bump head.
