One small field of balsam fir trees that we have planted are worth $40 each there is about 500 planted in this one small field and they need to be trimmed again to shape them well for the future growth so today my brother and I give them a whack!

Luckily your Dad is still able to find some migratory workers to trim his trees! They are sure hard workers! The ones out by themselves seemed to handle the drought better or are they just in different dirt or drainage?
@InTheWoodyard

Yup, we did migrate to the job once again! Ha! The bigger trees have more and deeper roots, so they do better.

I thought maybe some of the comments would get my answer but dont see it??? Are you wholesaling at this price or individuals coming to cut and buy the trees??? Trying to figure out gas prices because I maybe making a trip up to cut ours this year! Heck of deal compared the $90-$125 I get socked for every year! Maybe trade some Cherry?!?🤠
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 11 месяцев назад
$40-50 is the average price people pay on the lot or stump cut around her for balsam trees. You might be comparing Frazer fir trees, much more pricey here too. But if you can get a few/bunch of people who you can get to have you make a haul maybe it would be worth it for you???
@waynetharp

@InTheWoodyard I know we usually get the Frazier, but these look the same to me. We did find one a few years ago that was cheaper. A lot was set up selling Black Hill trees out of Michigan I believe. I was happy with them but they weren't back the next year. Thanks for the info...👍

Do all tree growers do the same thing basically. ? I did a review on a 4” Saker Mini Electric Chainsaw the other day. I would be handy for cutting the ones that the trimmer has trouble with. It’s light weight and you can hang it of your belt or pocket to carry it. I cut a little trail in my woods yesterday with it, for my garden tractor to go through. I cut up a poplar tree the other day to with it. All but the trunk. Have a great day.

I can't help but wonder, what is Nature trying to accomplish by growing more top leaders that in a year or two match the size of the leader you left? - You have enough Charlie Brown trees to justify buying a bag or two of fertilizer, help 'em out. - Those 20-30ft. trees could still be utilized. Dad told me about a time in the Depression he got a job on a Chritmas tree crew. They went somewhere in northern New York. It was a hard winter. Hundreds of beautiful trees. They cut, dragged, bundled,...did very well. That spring or summer he was back in the same area, but couldn't find the tree farm they had been working on. All he found was a whole bunch of 15-20ft. trees with the pointed tops cut off!! An enduring mystery! He did say it was a hard, snowy winter... to give me a clue. In my defense, I wasn't very old. - You were doing a nice Indian dance trimming, then the music started, I kept waiting for you to fall on you a**, and the local EMT's to cart you off somewhere, but you never showed that! Good editing!!!! GNI

Forgot to mention, your brother's trimmer was pretty nifty! How long did the battery last? He was doing some pretty good tribal dances his own self!
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 11 месяцев назад
If a tree is weak in color, light and not a deep green, we do through a couple handfuls of 10-10-10 on them and they do well. They all fill out eventually. The extra leaders happens after trimming until it starts to fill out better.
