That's because it was shot on film. During the 80's and 90's was when video recording on tapes caught on in a big way and quality of archival stuff like this suffered immensely. Even many movies made in the 60's and 70's look cleaner than some movies made in the 80's when transferred to BluRay. I'm not sure exactly why though.

@@triniasmr4503 once again, because you were ignorant. The world was not safer, the worst tragedies haven't been happening recently, dear. In the 80s there was no smart phone to get a news article on a shooting immediately. It is not my opinion, it is a fact that people were more ignorant before modern technology and the internet. Information travels faster making the world seem bleaker but it is not. You should have been afraid for your kids in the 80s as well, you just didn't know better then. We're too sensitive because we require you treat marginalized people with respect but here you are getting your pantyhose in a twist cause insulted the abstract concept of a 10 year period of time. Tolerance requires intolerance towards intolerance. People are not more sensitive now, we're being conscious of the correct things. You're saying people were less sensitive when gay people kissing was offensive??? Because asking you to respect someone is me being sensitive but passing laws controlling what grown adults do with grown adults isn't, you are all pathetic. You're not even a joke, cause jokes are funny.

Trinidad and Tobago was experiencing a PAINFUL recession during the 1980's(much worse than now) so I really don't think you would have wanted to live through that. It is understandable that as someone who never lived through the period you have an idealized view of how things were but trust me any problem that that exist now was very present at the time and even much worse in many instances.

Well, the presenters were either specifically trained to emulate the "British" accent or spent some time in Britain learning journalism. Also, further back there was a tendency in television media to use a fake accent. The average person very likely didn't speak like this.

But I believe what they do today is more about ensuring clarity in pronunciation and creating an emotive/lively cadance so it doesn't sound like they're just reading off a teleprompter than trying to sound British. Where did you get the idea that T&T was destroyed by drugs? If anything is destroying T&T, it is the corrupt politicians. Now in 2021 T&T still does not have a proper and continuous public waterworks system. The roads are in disrepair in most parts of the island, especially Trinidad's Northern region. Trinidad has the largest Pitch Lake in the world and many quarries, so there is no shortage of materials equipment, and money to repair and build proper roads. Crime creation is a very big business in T&T for the big Gov. T&T is a Legalist Police state, full of brainwashed indoctrinated dimwits.

We are so rich for a tiny island nation with so many natural resources over the years, that we should be on the same level as Dubai or Singapore who are tiny 1st world nations with larger populations than us. It is never to late to re-direct our focus, education, skills and collective consciousness along the path of self sufficiency, Caribbean and international trade cooperation, intended to enhance the life experience for *ALL* within our gem of an island. @Latoya Whitley Cosme the only way to get better is to free our nation from this mental slavery that we're still stuck in and sorry to say but that would NEVER happen. Trinibagonians are already stuck far up in their dirty ways. Govts can do all they want the only way to turn around this country lies in the hands of its citizens. Level headed, kind hearted, respectful and truthful Trinbagonians are a dime a dozen. T&T is a lost cause at this point. With that being said you ma'am can stay in your LaLa Land of hopefulness if that makes you happy. As a young person who still currently resides in this country I see or feel no hope for this country. Nor do I see anyone to inspire that Hope. Goes to show what a piss poor job our leaders and elders did to "build" this crumbling nation.

I will choose to respect your view. I am not one to get so emotional but it got to me a bit. I am sorry. I personally try to be an optimist but I don't expect everyone to come to the same conclusion when we experience different things and come from different backgrounds even within the same country. Trinidad is no paradise as there is no place on earth that is. However I choose to put my mental energy into believing that there are a few good souls still left and that there are still trinis who want to make a positive difference and undo the bad that has occurred. I hope you are able to find something to feel hopeful about as it can be pretty sad and heavy to live without some sort of hope.

And now today Trinidad look like crap. No improvement at all. I wish I could travel back to the 80's.

Modern politics have destroyed a lot of what we used to have as seen in this video. Sad state of affairs in current T&T. Oh if only we can rise up again as an economic powerhouse!

Wow amazing remind me when I was growing up in the 80s. What an amazing Prime Minister. One of the best! I miss the simplicity and the respectful way people carry about themselves.
